570.0. "Squier, Billy" by ANT::SLABOUNTY (The word for today is legs ...) Thu Jun 22 1989 13:32

This guy's got some great stuff ... granted, he's not the best
guitarist around - but then again who is? (I remember reading
a 'fan' letter that said something like "Why don't they take
	that guitar away from him?).

	Partial Discography:

	Don't Say No
	Emotions in Motion
	Signs of Life
	Enough Is Enough

	Favorite tracks:

	Most of "Don't Say No"
	All Night Long
	Everybody Wants You
	Rock Me Tonite

                                                       GTI

Another album is "Trick of the Tape" (or something like that), it was
    prior to "Don't Say No".

I was *really* into the "Don't Say No" album for a long time back
around '84/'85. I was really depressed a lot (like now) and that one
helped me pull through. I think my favorite song off that one was the
title track. I like the way the first part kind of builds, then stops,
then comes back in with a fury.

The last couple of albums kind of turned me off, as they went in the
pop/commercial sounding direction. I didn't bother getting them. But,
if the song that's now getting airplay from his new album is any
indication of the overall style of it, it sounds like he's returning to
the style I preferred. I'll probably pick this one up.

I saw Billy at the Centrum many moons ago... I think Ratt opened
up for them. Billy was really good; I like his stuff. It was all
the screamin' teeny-bop-ette's that drove me crazy. My ears were
ringing for days...Not cuz of the music volume, but the screams
    and stuff.

> Another album is "Trick of the Tape" (or something like that),

"Tale Of The Tape". It had a coupla really good songs on it, too!

Billy's first group was a Boston band called the Sidewinders. They were
real popular in the Boston clubs back in the mid-70s, but eventually faded
away.

The first time I saw Billy Squier was in the band Piper. They released two
albums on A&M Records. The first is called "Piper", the second is called
"Can't Wait". While the first one contained a small hit called "Who's Your
Boyfriend Now" (later re-recorded on 'Tale of the Tape'), "Can't Wait" was
the better of the two. "Can't Wait", "Blues for the Common Man", "Anyday",
"Little Miss Intent", and more were all great songs. My favorite is the
second song on the first side, but the title of it just blanked out my
mind.

The Piper album dfinitely sound dated, and don't stnd up real well to the
test of time. But I still really enjoy listening to them.

His solo stuff is all hit-and-miss. If he comes up with a good guitar riff, he
can usually make it work into a goodsong. But too many times there is too
much filler on the albums.

One of his best songs, IMO, is "She's A Runner" - I love that tune!

I asked a friend of mine from Capitol the other day, and she said the entire
album still isn't released yet - just the single. I wonder what the hold-up
is?

BTW - the song I couldn't think of from Piper's 'Can't Wait' album that I love
so much is called "Drop By and Stay".

His name is something like Bobby Chouinard. Also in Squier's band
now is Aerosmith's replacement for Joe Perry, from a while back,
    Jimmy Crespo.

I was at that Ratt/Squier show also and boy do I know what you mean
about those teeny boppers. There was a whole row of 13/14 year olds
screaming their heads off. I left early.

I wonder who will open for him this time? It seems that
he gets the bands that are just starting to get popular, then they
go right to the top. RATT, the first time he played the Centrum,
then the next year he had DEF LEPARD.

I've seen Billy 5 or 6 times all of them on the west coast and a
couple of times I got front row. I remember when Saga opened up
for them and I got a Squier guitar pick and a Bobby Chunard
    drum stick. It was killer.

Fig does a few tracks too, has he been around? Good album, all in

worth picking up. Do'nt think Billy's done any remakes yet. Am I

(Even if it does sound *exactly* like Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55")

[Steve, it does include "All Night Long", but I'm still looking

I also picked up "Emotions in Motion" out of the bargain bin at
