524.0. "Nazareth" by TPS::JREGAN (Hair of the dog that bit me) Fri Apr 07 1989 18:41

Anybody have a diskography for NAZARETH? Whatever happened to this
    band?

I liked the HAIR OF THE DOG lp. My favorite song off it was
    ... Son of A Bitch.

I like that song too, but once I bought a different album of theirs
and it was *awful* like the worst thing in the world.. kind of like
    country music..

I'm at a total ? with this band..

The only one I have is "Snaz"(?) - the live album.

        It has:

        Love Hurts
        Tush

and others ... which I conveniently forget all the time. I'll
        hafta listen to it again.

The song mentioned as "...son of a b*tch" is actually called "Hair
of the Dog". It's the title track of that album. That one was
IMO their best album. "Love Hurts" was also on there.

I have one called "Malice in Wonderland" which is rather odd. Like
Francine said parts of it sound almost like country music. On that
one, it's one side that I didn't like, the other side was rock.
I think there was at least one song on there that got some airplay,
but don't remember which one right off hand.

I believe Nazereth has a tune on the Heavy_Metal soundtract.

the name is "Crazy( a suitable case for treatment)"

A few years back I bought "2XS" for a dollar out of the cut-out
bins. It came out in '82, but I don't think it sold very well. I
bought it on a hunch because I liked the song "Love leads to Madness."
It's a great song, but unfortunately it's the only song worth listening
    to on the whole album!

Hair of the Dog is still their best.

Yes, RAZAMANAZ was real good stuff, but to me the best tracks were:

    			Night Woman

    			Razamanaz

And from the EXPECT NO MERCY - All The King's Horses.
Not hard, but really good music.

`Expect No Mercy' also had another good tune - `Kentucky Fried Blues'
Good band, IMHO, but they did seem to mellow after `Hair of the Dog'.

I am a loss as to the title but a possiblity 'this flight
tonite'......was a good tune...I listened to Nazareth when I was in
England during 72-75 time frame....."Hair of the dog" was the last good
    album they pressed!!

You are correct on "This Flight Tonight" it is a cover by Joni
Mitchell. I think it is on "Loud and Proud". That one and HOTD
are my personal favorites. Expect No Mercy and No Mean City had
a few good cuts but not quite as rockin as the early stuff.

    *****MY FAVORITE BAND ****

Naz had over twenty albums, including a solo from Dan McCafferty.
I think the best one was 'No mean city', some of the others are,

well, strange to say the least. But glad to see that someone still
knows who they are! Did anyone catch the concert at the Paradise,
    in 87'?- Real good show-small house + loud music +Naz = Excellent!

    GOOD BAND!

I too have enjoyed the good tunes from this band!

I had an old girlfriend who played one tune over-n-over, it had
a phrase like "Do you feel alright? ...". Michelle loved that
song, but can't remember the name of it.

That's the beginning to "Love Leads to Madness" that I think I
referenced earlier in this topic. I play it a lot too, but again,
it's the only song on the album worth playing IMO. So sad...

I saw this band 2 weeks ago in a free concert given by Radio Forth in
a place in Edinburgh.....they were really good even though they only
did a short set the rest of the line up was ok too but nothing
    outstanding.....

524.16And not a hint of bias anywhere!KBOMFG::TMCMANUSMon Feb 15 1993 06:4728
After the dissapointment of the Uriah Heep sound/set (see UH note), I
felt quite indifferent waiting for my fellow countrymen to take the
    stage.

Jeezus...was I in for a major surprise!! These guys blew me away!!

Who IS the guitar player ??!! He was the "younger" element in the band
and his tone and "feel" were incredible. He alternated between a black
Gibson Standard and what looked like a slightly scaled down version of
    a Gibson Firebird.

Dan "The Man" McCafferty was in great form. His "patter" in-between the
songs wiz pure magic..."Prost (throws back a schnapps)..blaw yir f%%kin'
heed aff..!!" as he staggers backwards with a snigger. I was pi$$in'
myself laughin' for ages at a lot of his antics.

In stark contrast to UH, Nazareth HAD a sound, and the choice of songs
were excellent (see previous notes in this topic for examples..)

Best IMO were SOAB, Rasamanaz, TFT, and of course LH.

...almost brought this expat Scot to tears....if you can, try and check
    these guys out...they were brilliant!

    Tom

Oh, yes, quick question to "Naz" fans , which album of theirs rocks the
    most ??

Tom, my all time favorite album from Nazareth is "Loud and Proud".
There are others I like alot too, but this one is my favorite.

during the seventies at the apollo in Glasgow "remember it"
and I thought they were ace.

what inspired this song? And what kind of effects are these guys using?

I only recently got into them and have since bought most of their
albums. Fave's gotta be Snaz and Loud & Proud. This Flight Tonight is
my fave song. I bought the last album I have seen of theirs called No
Jive, came out in early nineties (90 or 91). What I was wondering is,
are they still going? I'd love to see these guys live. I didn't get a
chance when they were in their peak as I was too young and had never
    heard of them.
