386.0. "Bell, Jimi" by SALEM::PARKER () Wed Dec 07 1988 12:30

Has anybody ever heard of a guitar player named Jimi Bell. Years
ago he played in a band called BELL ATTACK and now plays in a
band called JOIN FORCES. I've seen both bands and this guy wails.
JOIN FORCES were THE HUNZ in the JOAN JETT movie LIGHT OF DAY.

They have an e.p. out that i can't find anywhere. Anybody know
    where i can find it?

The band I believe is from Connecticut and sometimes play at the
    Channel and The Place.

Slight correction, its JoinED Forces. I believe the band is from
Rhode Island, but don't quote me.

I think Jimi definitely has some chops, but he kinds bugs me in the
fact he either plays 3 notes really slowly (like whole notes) OR 10,000
32nd notes blindingly fast...theres no in between with him. Hes fun to
watch (he's a lefty) though. He reminds me alot of Chris Impellitteri,
same speed and amount of soul.

Check out Darren Housholders band...now theres a fast guitarplayer
    with some soul.

    Buck
386.2I still wish I could play like that, but...CSC32::G_HOUSERevolution callingWed Dec 07 1988 13:418

How do you mean this, positive or negative? I wasn't personally
too impressed with Impellitteri. Yeah, he's fast, but has no feeling.
Reminds me a lot of Yngwie, who I'm not too big on lately.

    Kinda negatively.

I mean, Jimi is FAST! Its fun to watch his hand go from one endof the
nect to the other and back in a second, but its what he's (not) playing
that kinda sux. I'd rather hear someone like Satch who can play fast,
but saves it and does more melody, than someone who burns the frets
time and time again. Its gets old fast, and musically is shallow to
    me.

    RE BUCK

I agree he can be a bit obnoxious but with alot of the bands
(losers) i see in the clubs around here (n.h.) it was good to see
someone who can bug me rather than put me to sleep. I thought him
and his band put on a good show and were definetly worth seeing.
the only thing that really bugged me was he looks 2 much like
nikki sixxxx, but just the same i'd go see them again anyday.

Your corrections are probably right but i was close.

when is darren's band playing anyway?

Where has he disappeared to? I've seen Joined
Forces about 4 times at Celebrations years ago,
but haven't heard much lately. He is definately
one quick quitarist. He reminded me more of Paul
Gilbert actually. He's also sponsered by (um .
                . . I think it's) Seymour Duncan.

    re: Buck

That's what I thought you probably ment, just wanted to be sure.
I feel the same way. It's fun to watch players like that, but not
real exciting to listen to them. I loaned out my Impellerreti tape
after the first week and don't really care if I get it back...

Oh NO! What happened to Steve Stevens??? I really thought he and
Idol made a good match! I love the way Stevens plays.

If he's really gone I'll be totally bummed! :-(

I think Steve Stevens is going out on his own for another project.

I love Stevens' playing. He may not be THE best, but he's got
a great style and sound, which means more to me anyway.

His divebombs and guitar assault (to me) ARE Billy Idol's sound.

I'm gonna miss him playing for Idol. I thought they were a great
    team.

Just to nip a rumor in the bud here:

Steve Stevens is NOT playing in a band with Billy Sheehan.

Paul Gilbert is, and their new band is call Mr. Big.
