What do you think about the new SLAYER - Album? I think it's
quite great. It's the best Death-Metal Album since 'HELL
AWAITS'. Does anyone agree with me, or do you think Death
    Metal is....?

I HAVE all Slayer-albums, and many other Speed-, Trash- and Death
Metal albums. I can really say, that Slayer is one of the greatest

I don't like the new slayer, and it not cuz I'm not really into
    death metal.

I liked Reign in Blood much better. I mean, I can't see these new
vocals on South of Heaven..I expected the grunge/draino vocals of
past slayer. I think Rick Rubin didn't do slayer much justice in
the production. The songs are plodding and go nowhere too fast.
There wasn't even that much speedy stuff on the lp (IMO). Anyway,
I think its not a good representation of Slayer (whatever that may
    be).

As far as Kerry King being one of the best guitarists, well...

That thing is pretty nasty eh?

Speaking of Slayer and Death metal has anyone ever heard of a band
dubbed the baby slayer??? Theyre called Death Angel and they are
definitely worth picking up. I can see some serious similarities
    between them and Slayer.

The new Slayer album is great! The idea was to slow down a
bit and experiment. Notice that the fastest tracks are by Kerry
King, he didn't have a lot to say on this album so Tom "I'm a Poet"
Araya finally managed to get his lyrics on vinyl. I'm going to
see these guys again on Sept 20th, I'll let ya'll know how the new

Yeah, you're right, the fastest tracks are by Mr. King and the other
by Jeff Hanneman. But Slayer without Dave Lombardo (my opinion:
He is the best drummer of America) wouldn't be so great as they
    are today.
My favourite songs on South of Heaven are: Silent Scream and Mandatory
Suicide, but Angel of Death is the best Slayer-song!

I just bought the new Slayer last night and its great!!! There
isnt as much speed as there was in other albums but the mix between
speed and a little more mellow stuffshows that they can change and
are not limited to one kind of style. Perhaps this mix of speed and
the slower(than usual)music will attract a bigger audience then
it would if it were all speed. Any one can play fast but how good
    can you play slow.

Anyway its a good album well worth the $$$ Check it out 8^)

Woah!!!	I saw Slayer (with Nuclear Assault supporting) on Tuesday
night at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, England. They totally killed.
The new stuff from South of Heaven was played a bit faster. I
    can't remember the whole set but songs included;
    	South of Heaven
    	Reign in Blood
    	Silent Scream
    	Chemical Warfare
    	Ghosts of War
    	Mandatory Suicide
    	Die by the Sword
    	Angel of Death
    	Post Mortem
    	At Dawn they Sleep
    	Read Between the Lies

The stage set was pretty basic, as always, the backdrop that
of the inside of a church. The famous inverted crosses made several
apperances, and Kerry King had a new BC Rich (lovely blood red and
    jet black).
The atmosphere was fantastic, the crowd went wild, the sound
was excellent, and the stewards didn't f**k anybody over.
It was probably the best gig I've ever been to.

Of course, that was just an incoherent babbling being offered
due to the lack of anything else better to say. No offense.
As anyone who has heard the new album knows, Slayer is indeed
starting to experiment with some "different" tempos in their
    	material.

And, of course, they're playing some of the best, and the-
fastest death metal yet to be applied to a plastic disc.
    	(or_cassette)

    	    So, with that in mind:

that you try to attend this incredible display of metal's
dirtiest, (Motorhead), most deadly (Slayer), and most promising -
(Overkill) members of the "corps" (No *e* on the end)

What I was trying to say that with the greater variety of tempos
(such as the varity displayed on the new album) they will attract
a greater audience. Also because they are playing a little slower
it shows a little more talent than just playing a million mph.

Copied from RAW without permission:

Slayer have just begun work on their latest studio album in Los Angeles
with producer Rick Rubin. Titled Seasons in the Abyss, it should be
released by Def American during August.

But what does it sound like? well, there's been no move towards Des
O'Conner country. Indeed according to Tom Araya: "Slayer fans are gonna
freak out when they hear what we're doing. There is the usual fast stuff
very much in the vein of RIB. But we've also got some slower material
that carries on from where our last LP, SOH left off. And there's one
song War Ensemble that's virtually got a punk feel. This particular track
is about the craziness of war and speculates that one day war will become
a huge spectator sport."

Other titles confirmed for inclusion include: Seasons in the Abyss (which
deals with an English mass murderer who "specialised in killing little
girls. He treated it as a vocation and felt it his duty to kill! He was
the first murderer caught by the modern technique of genetic fingerprinting.")
Dead Skin Mask (about 50s serial killer Ed Gein, a farmer from Wisconsin
"who was pretty weird. He kept parts of his victims for souvenirs. This
number is really spooky.") Expendible Youth ("About the insanity of young
kids who join street gangs and believe that dying for the cause is a good
thing to do.") Born of Fire ("Back to basics song written by Kerry King")
and Spirit in Black (like the last named, a song with a suitable satanic
slant). The quartet are also toying with prospective cover versions,
possible for inclusion on the flip side of future singles.

The foursome will be over here during October, headlining the COTT tour,
on a bill that also features Megadeth, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies.

One other good piece of news. The four memeber have settled their hitherto
much-publicised differences. "everyone's been voicing their opinions and
even listening to what others have to say! We are getting along very
well, which is nes to Slaer!"

On July 2nd the Show no mercy adn Hell awaits album will be re-released in
the UK with two extra tracks on each: Aggresive Perfector/Chemical warfare
and Captor of sin/Haunting the chapel respectively.

Cheer, Flip

149.33Seasons in the abyssKETJE::VLASIUOrganizing snail-fightsTue Oct 02 1990 07:5641
Well, I listened twice times "Seasons in the abyss" and I can say:
it's one of the best HM albums ever released !
From the very first time it catches you and this continues until the end of the
last (10) song. There is no break between the songs and they continue one
through the other. 42 minutes of HM excitement !
The album is no more thrash only but it still contains high quality thrash.
"Seasons.." continues from where SOH left but which more speed and energy and
better structured songs. And SOH was already a great album. Araya sings better
than ever, instrumentals are extremely effective and the recording and
production are first class. Where the album shines most is in the compositions
which are all equally excellent.
This album should satisfy not only thrashers but any HM fan ! It's speed metal
at its top (Metallica should take this in consideration for their next album).
One more thing about the compositions .. you may listen the album at low volume
and it still catches you completely. At high volume it burns but the sound and
voices remain crystal clear.
The overall atmosphere recalls Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and
"Master of reality" but in Slayer's vision. Sure Slayer are kings of thrash, but
they are even better in speed metal riffs and they realized it.

Now the songs:

1. War ensemble	- heavy thrash/speed
2. Blood red - speed metal SOH continuing
3. Spirit in black	- starts speed metal and accelerates to thrash
4. Expandable youth	- fast, melodic, accelerating, mad drums and solos
5. Dead skin mask	- slower but more complex, creating atmosphere
6. Hallowed point	- heavy thrash/speed
7. Skeletons of society- medium speed, fine backing chorus
8. Temptation - heavy speed/thrash
9. Born of fire	- starts thrashy and goes to speed metal riffs
10. Seasons in the abyss- the most ambitious, with slow complex intro, melodic
(backing vocals) and continued with heavy riffs

All 10 songs are best, and, for non-thrashers, don't worry, the more thrashy
songs have enough breaks and changes to satisfy any speed metal fan.

Conclusion: Highly recommended to *any* HM fan. This is a milestone album.
Enjoy !

Yes, "Disposable youth", "Dead skin mask", "Skeltons of society", "Souls in
black" (the few I remember better) are of the same quality and style with
"Seasons..". All the album is very good. Surely the album contains also 3
old Slayer style songs ("War ensemble" is one of them) but you'll enjoy them
too after one or two listenings. I think is one of the very best HM albums to
date (surely very energetic but also very precisely played).
Enjoy !

wanting more, and there isn't any! They should really put the best

After much search I got finally "Reign in blood". It's an excellent album.
Quite short but so intense. Now I understand why SitA was presented as mixing
the influences from SoH, for the more tempered part, and from RiB for the
faster songs. In any case RiB, SoH and SitA are three essential albums.

Sorin
149.45RiB vs SoHKETJE::VLASIUMon Jul 29 1991 09:206
Now, concerning SoH and RiB, I think RiB is fast and heavy hammering
from the beginning to the end while SoH introduces some (fine) mid
tempo riffs and more melody. SitA contains both kinds. I like them all
three equally well (each one shows an evolution).

Ya know ... I've been listening to SITA a LOT lately. This album seems
to have taken a similar turn as `Metallica' did for Metallica. They
slowed it down, made it `heavier', and as a result, it's a LOT more
popular to the masses. But Metallica is getting beat to death for it -
nobody has said a word about Slayer ... kinda strange. I could care
less, it's a monster album. SOH was just too fast/garbled/etc. I
didn't get into it at all.

Re. Scary

While slowed down, Slayer's SITA remains very punchy and hot by using the
heavier riffs. It still contains some older style songs. Slayer has just
slowed down to be better listened (like Coroner on their last album and
Sepultura on "Arise"). This explains the widening of audience.
Metallica, when they released AJFA, slowed down a bit too much and have not
compensated this by adapted compositions. But they learned quickly and
reviewed their approach on "Metallica" which is a very strong album even if
it's slower than earlier works.

149.120Divine Intervention / Decade of AggressionTPLAB::VLASIUSorin Vlasiu - Brussels, BelgiumThu Feb 02 1995 13:0417
Last time I decided to refresh a bit my HM collection, so I picked up Slayer's
Divine Intervention and Decade of Aggression and Sepultura's Chaos AD.
Excellent stuff !
DI has to be one of the most aggressive albums of the year and it is positioned
somewhere in between RiB and SitA. It is very fast but in almost all songs
you can find very impressive killer riffs. The lyrics are also very tough
(a bit too much sometimes to my taste). Most of the songs are written by Kerry
King (thus the speed..). Paul Bostaph replaces with no problem Dave Lombardo.
10 songs for a total of almost 37 mins may seem short but given the kind
of music, it's like you've listened for more than an hour (for you ears).
Well recommended for sure !
DoA is also excellent. Slayer seems to keep the same quality live as when in
studio (they had a fine success in Brussels). Even the songs from Hell Awaits
(which is my least prefered Slayer work) are much hotter on this live album.
Well recommended also !

Hi all. My name is Dave. I live in KAO. I have to agree with Sorin with
re to DI. Yes this CD Kix! Ya gotta like 'Dittohead' man, 2 ,min 37 sec
of raw, powerful anger. There is no other band as agressive as Slayer.
I do not know much about the band except their names. I was unaware
that the drummer left, but the new guy seems good. I own 'Show No
Mercy' and 'DI' and for 1983 'SNM' REALLY kix.

Didn't go over very well, their first stop was a bar stool,

People who say DW sucks, in my opinion, never did DW the way it
should be done. This place is the resort of resorts with bazillions
of adult things to do. Admittedly, if you stay off-site, and commute in
to see just the parks, and rush through those in a couple days or
so, you will leave very disappointed.

However, if you've been a few times and go for 1-2 weeks each time and
stay on site, you learn how to take advantage of a lot of things that
have nothing to do with the theme parks.

But don't take my word for it - the less of you there the better for
    me, anyway.

DisneyLand = Magic Kingdom. DW is a superset of DL (DL has no Typhoon Lagoon,
Pleasure Island, River Country, EPCOT, MGM, resort hotels, etc., etc.).
DL is about 5% of DW. The reason they built DW was so that could keep
    on adding to it.

If you are a first-timer, it is literally impossible to do everything
at DW in under 3 weeks.

149.157WONDER::REILLYSean / Alpha Servers DTN:223-4375Wed May 08 1996 15:3838

and /jen I respectfully think you are talking about doing just
the parks there, not experiencing much of the other stuff that
rivals activities at the best of resorts.

Look at it this way. You could say that you could *do* all
there was to do at Aruba in 1 day (beach, eat, drink) or
the same for a ski resort. You may enjoy doing it for more
    than 1 day, though.

I treat DW as a vacation resort, not just a theme park.

So I am including stuff like riding the personal water sprites
all over seven seas lagoon, eating at the 5-star Victoria and
Alberts (2 waiters per table that work only for you, max of
9 tables in the place) or the Empress Lily, taking a moonlight
cruise, seeing the shows at Pleasure Island or Top Of the World,
visiting Discovery Island, catching movies at the state of the
art theatres. If you like relaxing at other resorts, I say you
can get better here. Have you tried the Norweigian smorgasbord
in Epcot? Have you seen New Years Eve (nightly at Pleasure Island).
Have you gone to Illumninations (laser/fireworks show at Epcot)?
Have you been to the Hoop-do-doo review at River Country or the
    Polynesian Luau?

And if you're looking for thrill parks, sure, there are lots better
places to go. But if you tell me Busch is as clean and that
the attention paid to detailing every building, every spec of the
park, inside and out, that if the environment and atmosphere
are better, I say you are nuts. I've been to both, and once was
enough at Busch. I'll go to Kings Dominion for the "ride" parks
    and D.C. for the zoo.

So it depends on what you go for. I use it as a resort, I spend
about 40% of my day total inside the parks.

Sean,

I agree there is lots to do, I just guess when I go away I don't like to
'lounge' as much as some folks.

The last time I went to Orlando I did the following (and I'm sure I'm leaving
somethings out) in 9 days:

MK
MGM
Epcot (yeah saw the illuminations)
SeaWorld (love their laser/water show ... makes illuminations look sad)
Epcot - (once you've actually been to the real places in England, and Paris,
and Quebec, these have little spark left)
Tour of NASA
Went back another night to see the 1:00 a.m. lauch of a space shuttle - VERY
Cool & a major highlight of the entire trip
Pleasure Island - overcrowded and not thrilled with 'environment' or people--
     "dah...let's get drunk and stupid"
Downtown Orlando - haunted walkthrus, clubs, restaurants, shops
Old Town Kississmee (sp?)
Fancy dinner out at some upscale Chinese place on International drive
Wild Bill's Dinner Theater
Church Street Station - clubs, restaurants
Busch Gardens
Tacky tourist traps all along I. Drive

I fry pretty easily and don't want skin cancer like dad so hanging out at the
beaches/waterparks a lot isn't my idea of fun. Besides we can do that at
home.

As for Busch, yup, I'd say they pay incredible attention to detail even though
they don't have the best assortment of thrill rides around.

But more importantly they don't RIP YOU OFF like Walt & Company. No $7
hamburgers and $30 cheapo souvenirs! And the staff is pleasant without
being STEPFORD plastic!

Gawd, I was so sick of hearing "The platform you're about to step onto is
moving at the same rate of speed as the car you are leaving" and "Please
chose a row and move all the way to the end, leaving no empty seats"

Oh yeah...and I'd say I did most all there was to do in Bermuda in 4 days too...
let me off that island!

When I do three-week trips it is to places like Australia or Europe. Why go
see Walt's warped view of the world when you can see the real thing! :^)

Just for the record, I never go into Orlando and do anything else
but Disney. I guess different strokes for different folks but I found
Busch and Sea World real chintzy.

And I never get food at the fast-food stands at DW. Agreed, that is
    a rip-off and its bad.

But Narcoosee's at the Grand Floridian serves an awesome lobster and
you can get yards of beer. The Empress Lily is a big Riverboat with
each section of the ship a different restaurant. The main room has
some of the best French food you ever tried. Porto Bello out at PI
has the best garlic white pizza in the world. The YAcht and Beach
Club as some A-1 restaurants, too. Breakfast on the Grand Floridian
    veranda was always nice.

I guess to each his own. I like it there. It's expensive, for sure.
That's why I haven't been able to get back since '92. Still I'd
rather save my pennies for that than half the other tourist traps
    in this country.

I've lived in Australia for over 25 years and there are LOTS of places I haven't

you go to Australia its going to take you 2 days to get there, 2 days to get back,

When I go home I take 6 weeks, and even then I stay in Western Australia

one original song on the entire CD. There are 11 or 12 songs and the CD
    is about 35 minutes long.
When I looked at the songlist credits, almost all of the songs were
written by people I've never heard of. I figure it's some sort of

    Thanks for the info Sorin.

Well I finally gave the new one a spin. Overall not too bad.
The first two tracks are straight ahead speed/punk mix.
The only original track sounds like typical Slayer.
There is one song that is kinda funny called Richard Hung Himself.
The production, except for the original song, doesn't seem to be there.
I couldn't put my finger on it, but it just didn't sound right.

There are 14 tracks and the entire CD is 33 minutes 04 seconds long.
Not very long at all. Most tracks are around 2 min. It's worth picking
up, but try and get it on sale or at less then normal price. These days
paying full price for 33 minutes of music is ludicrous.

The new slayer is good but I think they tried to show off their new
drummer a little too much. The new stuff sounds kinda mutteled
    together.

Their new drummer isn't all that new. He's been in the band for over
two years, at least. (I think)

He has but Divine Intervention is the only album they've done with him.
Although I did see them in concert and he did a good job at all the
    older songs.

If I understood well from somewhere in the news groups, the drummer on
Undisputed Attitude was still Paul Bostaph and not the new one.
It was better maybe for Paul to stay with Forbidden which was/is? one of the
very best thrash/speed metal bands.
I've seen the CD here announced with a second bonus CD (three live songs). I
have to think if I'll buy it before or after Metallica's (or if I'll buy
it at all). A 33 mins CD is really short by today's standards.

Paul Bostaph is listed in the liner notes as the drummer.
Were they planning on dumping him too? Cuz he is a great drummer.
He's well suited to Slayer's music style.

Although I don't see why they dumped Dave Lombardo... he's still awesome.

    Sorin,

Get your hands on Iced Earth 'Burnt Offerings'. They drummer there is
pretty impressive with his double-bass speed kickin'! This guy must
have legs of iron to maintain like that! Unless he is using some sort
of effects, but he is pretty good! Some decent rools in there too
during some of the songs! As for Bostaph, I thought he was in Forbidden
on the Distortion cd? Decent thrash/speed metal, but At the Gates does
some thrashy stuff too! As for Iced Earth, but also some good slower
stuff too with time changes and all.
