112.0. "Berklee School of Music" by ERASER::BUCKLEY (Yo, the MESSIAH by GFH Kicks total ass!) Mon Jun 20 1988 19:33

    This is the Berzerklee note.

This is for people who went to Berklee (Berzerklee) to hang out (kind
like an on-line Berklee Beach) and talk.

Also, this note can serve for the musicians in this conference to
discuss technique and modes and chord scales and all that crap that the
common (normal?) HM noter sould care less about....so now they can just
    hot the ole comma key!

Hey, Ray...I went to Berzerklee...who'd you have for teachers?

Ever have Roberta Radley for Ear (S)Training? She's was a riot!

(FYI, she used an overtly phallic method of describing syncopation!)

        Southern Heavy_Metal? HAH!!

How many HM bands do you know that come from Knoxville,
        or Louisiana?

All they produce is fiddle-playin'. 8^)

OK, Southern folk, this topic is reserved so the Berklee grads
can sit back and tell each other how good they are. I guess we
can go watch Hee Haw re-runs or chase chickens or maybe even wax
    our roto-tiller.

I used to know this dude at Berklee named Jeff something. He was the
lead guitarist for a metal band from Louisiana called Leroux (sp?).
They used to have a few hits and some vids on MTV at one time...anyone
remember? Anyway, this dude was hot! We did a recitle in the pavillion
(FYI, its outdoors on Boylston st) and we had these marshalls just
cranked all the way up....Boston was rockin!

So, the moral of the story is there are hot metal players from the
    south up north!

112.6Leroux - good band!HAZEL::STARRYou ain't nothin' but fine, fine, fine!Tue Jun 21 1988 13:339
Hey Buck, you knew the guy from Leroux? He wasn't lying, ya
know! I saw Leroux in concert at the Cape Cod Coliseum, backing
up Foreigner (on the Foreigner 4 tour). They also had a hit
with the song "Nicole", which is on an album I have. That song
is a killer, and the rest of the album is pretty good too.
Although I wouldn't call them HM, but more like hard/pop rock
    (ala .38 Special).

I know this is WAY off the subject of this topic, but I just have
to ask you..............what the heck does "ala" mean??????

Someone I work with uses "that word" all the time - I don't know what
it means - but when she uses it, it "seems" to fit in with whatever
    she's saying.

Hey, you guys want to know a well kept Southern secret ? Don't
use "Finger Ease" to make the neck on your axe slick. Here's what
you do. Ya git a niace big greasy chicken wang and rub up and down
the fretboard (is at whut ya call it ?). Slicker'n snot on a doorknob.
And when ye finish with it, ya can rub it behind ya ears fur like a
poultry cologne, then ya eat it. Make sure ya wash ya hands, ya
never kin telll whur that GIT-tar's been.

anything but jazz would be labeled a "Rock Idiot" and banished

I went out to Boston once...in quest of seeing and planning
to goto BERKLEE. I was right out of high school on a massive
trip with two other friends/musicians of mine. We all of
a sudden wanted to go to BERKLEE. So we saved money and took
a flight from COLORADO SPRINGS to BOSTON. Well to make a long
story short: Both of my friends wimped out after two weeks
and wanted to go home. I went with them which is one of my
greatest regets in life! It was two weeks of musical heaven
and I wish to visit again and see about going there again...

But just like everything dreams can fade
and things put off for money and other responsiblities.

    Yo Friz!

If you wanna go and you can get in, then GO FOR IT!!!

You may not have the chance later and it really sucks going through
life with regrets about decisions you made when you were younger! The
responsibility stuff only gets worse the longer you wait. Education is
one of the best things you can do for yourself.

112.18Class Of '69, Yeah!JUPITR::NLAMOUREUXSTORMIN'NORMANMon Aug 26 1991 14:5138
                                CLASS OF '69

Went to Berklee in 1969, it was like being on top of the world,
music 24 hours a day, the teachers were some of the best Jazz Musicians
on this planet, and the trainning was INTENSE, they definately bring
out the best in you, no matter what TYPE of music you're into!!!!!!
Found that MONEY was the key word at Berklee, if you had the bucks
you'd make it through no matter what.
I lived in the Dorm on Hemingway Street, which was quite the
place, lived on Tang, morning, noon and night, lotsa jamming, lotsa
    parties, lotsa music.
While I was there, my close freind was out in Vietnam, he was a
Bass player and I'd send him letters telling him how incredible Berklee
was and also send him whatever new Beatle Albums were out!
The funny part was that I was always a Beatles fan, and most of
the students there would laugh at me whenever I'd talk about the
Beatles, and then............"ABBEY ROAD" came out and everyone in the
entire Dormatory would be playing the album 24 hours a day! You just
can't beat magic, and that's just what music should be, not just tech-
    nical.
Anyhow, I wound up dropping out of Berklee cause my Sweetheart
wound up with child and had to make a choice, but got everything I
could from the COLLEGE for a whole year.
My friend came back from NAM, went to Berklee, graduated and wound
up teaching there. We're back together in a band called
"R-E-V-O-L-V-E-R" and he said teaching there sucked, he's a great Bass
player but travels out here to the Worcester area just to play in a
band that at one time did nothing but Beatles tunes, and now we're
getting into more diverse material like, Van Morrison' "Moondance",
Gary Moore's "Still Got The Blues", Instumentals by Carlos Santana and
some of the better stuff from the Golden Era of Rock, the '60's.
All I can say is that Berklee gave me the knowledge that I need to
learn the stuff we're doin' and I definate haven't regretted ever going
there, and if you've got the opportunity, DON'T PASS IT UP!

                                                   Music Is The Force!

                                                        Storm'N.

Could someone post the address of Berklee please?

And a question - how does it compare with the Musicians Institute in
    Hollywood, for example?
