96.1They've lost the fireUSHS01::DAVIS2You need wings to stay above it.Thu Jun 09 1988 13:1711

As with most bands which make a comeback, I'm of the
opinion that Aerosmith was lots better then than they
are now. They had more fire and energy when Rocks was
released... they drove their music home with surges of
raw power. Now their music sounds a lot like ballads,
which are okay, but not the kind of thing I look to heavy
    	metal for.

96.3I like it!HAZEL::STARRYou grow up and you calm downThu Jun 09 1988 14:0413
I like the new LP a lot. I think it's the best they have done
since 'Rocks' (which is a masterpiece!). I agree that "Angel"
is pretty weak, but "Hangman Jury" makes up for it. And if you
want loud rock, listen to "Permanent Vacation" - this song kicks
more ass than anything since "Back in the Saddle". Great tune!

I'm glad to see Aerosmith branching out (ala "The Movie", or the
country song on their cassette single) without sounding weak or
out-of-place. While songs like "Angel" get the most airplay, I'll
just skip over that one and go on to "Permanent Vacation" and
    "I'm Down".

I think Permanent Vacation is amazing!! - a real masterpiece.

Rocks, I thought, was very samey. Had some good tracks on it but
lacked spice. Toys in the Attic is one of their best yet but there
is no definite Aerosmith sound, it varies but still manages to go
from strength to strength (as someone else said, The Movie is a
totally amazing single. You can almost see the ONE band working
together, rather than fighting each-other for the limelight).

Amazing band and one of my major influences.

I think the best album they had was "Get Your Wings"(does that bring
me back!).I think that Permanent Vacation is probably the bands
best effort since "Night in the Ruts".After Joe Perry left the band
(Thank god it was,and stayed amiacable)Aerosmith changed personell
several times and produced some real disasters.Joe Perry created
the Joe Perry Project, which I saw with Rossington-Collins(remember
them?)which turned out to be a wonderfully mediocre band that
constantly reminded me that Joe Perry belonged with A-smith.This
all ended with "Done With Mirrors",another C+ to B- album, but still
a come back and reason to rejoice for Aerosmith fans.I think that
"Permanent Vacation"is a good sign that Aerosmith will be back with
the full fury that brought them to the top of the heavy metal scene.
96.6Rocks to VacationFSLENG::JAINCarefull with that axe Eugene!Fri Jun 17 1988 15:016
"Get Your Wings" was definately Aerosmith's best album. "Toys In
The Attic" a close second. "Rocks" was their last good album until
now. The new album has a dominant R&B influence so it's really
difficult to classify it as HM. This doesn't mean the album is
bad. I like the album very much. It just seams that Aerosmith
is moving on to different ground.
96.7Many moons ago....DONVAN::PAPPASMon Jul 25 1988 18:4311

Aerosmith was great when they first started to play. one of the
first places was Spring St. Jr. High and Aces and Eights were
playing too that night and when Steven Tyler walked in the gym,
everyone freaked and thought it was Mick Jagger! I still love
them now, but miss the rude kids they once were.

"Permanent Vacations" is one of their best LP. The CD sound is
    fabulous.

You (can't remember who) shouldn't say it's not HM anymore...

It may be a little more bluesy but who do you think is listening
to this album .... but HM fans like you or me.

The third (actually, 2nd lp in succession) was called I've got the
    Rock n Rolls Again.

I haven't heard the last lp by JPP, Once a Rocker, cuz I was IN
the studio when they were recording that album. The sessions were
*awful*! Joe was totally uninspired! They'd go torecord a solo,
and Joe would get up there and just play some mindless blues thing.
The producer would say "Joe, that was great, but let's try `another'
one just for a differenct approach [read producer's line of bull
cuz he didn't just wanna say it stunk!]. Joe said "F#@$ it, that's
good enough" and that was that...they left it. So, after those
rousing sessions, I just assumed the lp would be worthless even
after mixdown and would forever live in bargin bins and record return
    orders!

I always thought A-smith was the epitome of nasty heavy metal, have
always loved their music and always will! I wasn't at all dissapointed
with Done with Mirrors at all. I'm glad to see that they are off
of the hard stuff and onto perrier now, too...

Maybe they are getting into more of a rockin/rollish thing now,
but that doesn't phase me. They still rule in my book.

    Re: -1

I kinda disagree. Aerosmith's Rocks lp was sort of a pinnacle,
It was more rockin then Toys, but Their direction/sound changed
on the followup lp, Draw the Line. Basically, the comeback Aerosmith
is in keeping with the `new' sound that was fused on lps like
Draw, Night in the Ruts, and Rock in a Hard Place. I, for one, was
very disappointed with the Done With Mirrors lp, I thought the
production su&*ed! (sorry Ted) Their latest is a great album, and
its cool for being current too, I mean, it could have sounded like
a Prince album if they wanted it too.

	Hi folks out there,

me and my friends coming from Bavaria, are extremly disappointed
about your strange comment about AEROSMITH.
We think it doesn't make any sense to compare AEROSMITH with
the bad, boring and ugly PRINCE.

	Any comments?

Well, the boys have finished recording thier new album in Vancouver,
    Canada,and it's being master mixed now.It's called"THUMP"and
everyone who has heard some of it says that it makes Perminate Vacation
sound like a Barry Manalo record,so look out!!!!!
They start the Europian tour in September when the record is being
released. The Stones mentioned them as possible to open for them
on some of their North American gigs.I live in New England and
would love too see them play together at the dates for Foxboro
    Stadium in Massachusetts,on Sept.29,30 and Oct.1st,or something
like that. But I don't see how it would be possible..

96.26Love in an ElevatorWMOIS::MAZURKADYLITHIUM.Wed Aug 16 1989 18:4924
    I just heard"LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR".Quite good.It's what I like to
    call"Heavy back-street-Boston-boogie_woogie"which A-smith is so
good at.The song starts out with a female elavator operator sayin_
    "2nd floor,Hardware_childrensware__womens lingerie,Oh,good afternoon,
Mr.Tyler---(sexy voice)Are you going down?" A typical Tyler snicker
    follows.

The guitar riff at the beginin has an "Asian"sound but, after a Tyler
screeech--It's all metal.Harmonization is the best I,ve hear from
the band,a definite Desmond Childe production...

I bought Coopers"TRASH" and Perry does additional guitar on one
song, while Kramer and Hamilton contribute a strong backin rhythm
to another song.on yet another tune,Tyler backs up the Coop on
a song named"Only my heart talkin".They have a great screamin
match at the end....shivers.........Good stuff, but Childe also
had a hand in this and the song does bring shades of "Angel"
into my mind......Whens Motey finnaly gonna release one song to
    the radio stations....

There's a review of the new album in today's Boston Globe. The
reviewer (Steve Morse) says it's probably the best album they've ever
made, going so far as to call the album the Sgt. Pepper of hard rock.
He predicts it will outsell even the multi-platinum "Permanent
    Vacation."

Given the single, I wouldn't have expected this kind of rave review.
    It hits the stores Tuesday.

    AEROSMITH - PUMP Rating: Kapable

I feel an almost overwhelming temptation to slap this b*stard down,
just stab it in the face of the endless eulogy Aerosmith will receive
as soon as they honour us with their presence; or maybe because
of Steven Tyler's mindless claims to have spent a million dollars
on drugs, something I find utterly contemptible.

But I don't have to. Aerosmith are still unwittingly adrift in
their preposterous mid-70's nirvana. A permanent vacation always
in full swing, men are rock n' rollers, women are wet beavers and
certainly don't argue when Steven Tyler, doubtless in possession
of a set of enormous sexual parts, thrusts them at the lucky ladies.

'Pump' is littered with chest-beating braggadocio; a prehistoric
love manual for schoolboy flitstones; a wistless w*nker's sexual
    paradise.

Witness 'I shove my tongue right between your cheeks/I haven't made
love now for 25 weeks/I hear that you're so tight, your lovin'
squeaks/And I'm ready, so ready' (F.I.N.E.). Or the Finbarr Saunders
fnarr fnarr intro to 'Love in an Elevator'. A wanton female lift
operator (!) pants lustily: 'Second floor, hardware children's wear,
ladies lingerie. Ooooooh. Good Morning Mr Tyler. Going...down?'
Steve laughs his macho laugh before shoving his tongue etc, etc.
Aerosmith should cover Spinal Tap's 'Sex Farm Women' and really
    get themselves off.

Tireless, big Steve's soon singing about 'Young Lust' like he's
not really old enough to be Shakin' Stevens.

On the whole 'Pump' is better when you concentrate on the music.

Although Aerosmith now purvey formula kick ass rock'n'roll in the
same way Foreigner purvey AOR, they're thankfully still several
miles up on the thousand and one worshipful imitators you can catch
at the Marquee. Dinosaurs turned canny survivors, they've had enough
of drugs, sex'n'rock'n'roll to remain the real thing ahead of Crue,
LA Guns, Faster Pussycat and the myriad wannabes. The day they're
not is the day it gets sad.

'Pump' is a saucy, occasionally gauche, totally slick parody of
'Permanent Vacation' that lives up to its model only spasmodically
    - on the hard grooving 'F.I.N.E.' for example, or on the more inventive
'Janie's got a gun'. But 'Take me to the other side' just can't
wait to be 'Dude looks like a lady', and 'Voodoo medicine man' and
'Love in an elevator' are belaboured in a buster of heavy drums
and riffing while falling short of genuine melody.

'Monkey on my back', 'Don't get mad, get even' and 'What it takes'
are average songs performed by a very good band with Joe Perry.

'Pump' will hit the spot for the Marquee bandits, and you'll hear
pale imitations soon enough. With its polished radio-friendly
production job and the unassailable status of rock'n'roll legend,
it's a mildly enjoyable multi-Platinum rolemodel; brainless trouser
snake party noise from the big fish in the pond and nobody does
    it better.

controversial and alternative. In effect he just makes a fool of
    himself.

Aerosmith never have and hopefully never will be anything but "trouser
snake rock". That is the whole point of them and the kind of music
they play - straight up, kick butt rock, no messing. The day they
write a deep and thoughtful lyric will be the day they lose that
vital Ingredient X which makes them so good.

    That's what I thank, anyway.

Well, I've been waiting to hear some reviews...
If the album is anything like Lame in an Elevator, then I don't want
it. If it's anything like Perm. Vacation, then I might pick it up. I
thought that album was really cool, because it was raw and jammin'. It
sounded like they were just jammin out, and that's what I liked.

Also, what's up with the stupid videos? Not only is Lame...Elevator a
really stupid "them on stage gyrating" video, but it's the same as
their last 4 stupid "gyrating on stage" videos. I don't know about
you, but I've had enough of looking at all of them age. They should do
something good, or at least interesting.

You can't blame the kids if they don't know who A/S is they are
one of the best but don't blame a younger generation because they
didn't grow up listening to A/S. Alot of kids today don't know or
even care who Led Zep is but Know who The Doors are abd they were
around the same time as Zep. Times chance as well as generations.

I think it is useless to comment on a couple of teenie boppers
who care less about an old man when they can look up to another
band who is newer and younger.

Everyone has their own opinion and I like mine...it makes sense

Sometime the back is better! I'm not really there to see Aerosmith, but
to hear them Live.....And usually you can get a little more rowdier in
the back without getting kicked out! The back has it's advantages!!!!
I've been third row, second row, and front row center, and I found that I
really don't care where I sit....I'm there for the music...If I get front
row then all the better.

(As for the teenie boppers....

Yes, I am a R&R snob!!! I was very disappointed by the girls who wanted

IT was a city roof top it was wild. The light show was good too
and as always Aerosmith was a BLAST to watch!!!

> No, he is just an all around lame producer.

Uh-oh, buck - here we go again! 8^)

First off, I really like Ted's production. His VH stuff, and also his work
with the Doobie Brothers, was killer! I think he has a good knack for
capturing a band's live energy in the studio - not an easy task.

As for the Aerosmith stuff, well, I never understood why "Done With Mirrors"
gets slagged so much (even by the band themselves!). I *like* that album!
"Darkness", "Sheila", "My Fist Your Face" - all pretty good tunes. The only
one I was really disappointed in was the remake of "Let the Music Do The
Talking", as Perry's orginal was the defintive version of that song.

Mind you, its not a *great* Aerosmith album. (In fact, it doesn't even sound
much like the usual Aerosmith.) But I still like it.....

Oh, and while we're at it - I know that "Pump" had a lot of experimental stuff
to it, but I don't like the tone of the lead guitar on "Janie's Got A Gun" at
all! Yech!!!!

Geeesh Alan, wanna start a band?
    ;^)

Ok...you are right...Ted does capture a great live feel onto tape.
There are certain roles a producer can play, and approaches he/she
can take. I always felt that Ted's work was a bit too spontaneous
sounding. I'm not really from the '1st take or nothing' school of
production...I'm not from the 'til you get it 100% correct' either...
    but..

What am I trying to say here?

I think Ted's arrangements and his 'sounds' to tape are a bit to
    rough for my personal tastes.

I also agree that the writing isn't bad on DWM...Sheila, MFYF...they
are great songs/grooves...but again I think that Templeman sound
just grates my ears, and I don't think he really brought out the best
inner workings of the Aerosmith core.

I think his VH stuff is a lot more Don Landee and the band than him
personally. I donno, again just my stupid humble opinion! (JMSHO)
    ;^)

My ears go for more of the Jimmy Jam style production for dance stuff,
and more of the 'european' production style for metal things.

The radio station was 101.1 in Greenville. They opened with "Same Old

due to the length of the special (1 1/2 hrs) which included commericals
after every third song. They did a blues number called "Red House"
which is the same Red House that Hendricks recorded on his "Are You

Locally, this was broadcast on WGIR on Saturday night at 10:30pm, WHEB on
Sunday night at 9:00pm, and on WAAF on Sunday night at 9:30pm!

I heard most of it, on and off. Sounded pretty good, although there seemed to
be way too much from the last two albums and not enough of the older stuff.
(And even when they did, I wasn't too thrilled, like with "Mama Kin").
"Permanant Vacation" sounded real good, and "Red House" was also ok, (although
Perry hit some *really* bad notes at some points - *cringe*! But there were
also some good licks in there also.)

KISS is lame cuz they seem to be shooting for airplay. "Lets Put The X

                        AEROSMITH INKS $30 MILLION DEAL

    - taken without permission from Rolling Stone magazine, Issue 614,
    October 3rd, 1991.

Aerosmith has signed a multi-album deal with Sony Music that appears to
be one of the most lucrative ever negotiated by a rock and roll band.
Sources sympathetic to Aerosmith indicate that the group is guaranteed
a minimum of $30 million, along with an exceptionally high royalty rate
of nearly twenty-five percent. The deal puts Aerosmith in the company
of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and the Rolling Stones.

Although the contract forbids both Sony Music and Aerosmith to reveal
the terms of the deal, a statement released by the company and approved
by Aerosmith described Sony's "commitment" as being "in the $25 million
range" and said the band would receive a "superstar royalty rate."
However, the $25 million apparently does not include several million
dollars the group received as a result of a renegotiated royalty rate
on its back catalog of albums recorded for Sony's Columbia label during
    the Seventies and early Eighties.

Aerosmith will not begin recording for Sony until it has delivered two
new studio albums, plus a greatest-hits anthology, to Geffen Records,
the label that brought the band back to the top of the charts over the
past few years. As a result, it is unlikely that Sony will receive
its first new Aerosmith album before 1995. Sony is betting that
Aerosmith's next two Geffen albums will be successful and that the
group will still be popular in four years - at a point when some group
members, including lead singer Steven Tyler, will be nearly fifty years
    old.

"I think Aerosmith has just now approached the Led Zeppelin-Rolling
Stones level," said Michele Anthony, a senior vice-president of Sony
and a key player in negotiating the deal. "We're betting on their
future. There's nothing wrong with getting Aerosmith two records from
now. The band has never been in better musical shape."

Others in the industry, however, questioned the wisdom of the deal.
"You have to have a tremendous amount of belief in an artist and be
able to predict where music will be four years from now to make a deal
like that," said SBK Records chairman Charles Koppelman. "I wouldn't
make a deal like that. Aerosmith has had a great second life, but I'm
not so sure they'll be able to maintain it."

Under the terms of the deal, Aerosmith will deliver four studio albums
to Sony. The contract also provides for a live album and a
greatest-hits package. According to various sources, Sony must sell
from 2 million to 2.5 million copies of each album to break even on the
    deal.

For Sony, the addition of Aerosmith to its roster has implications
beyond the albums the label expects to sell. At present, Sony has no
major hard-rock acts, with the exception of the Rolling Stones, whose
deal with the company is almost up. In recent years much of its
success has been with lightweight teenybopper, pop and dance acts like
New Kids on the Block, Mariah Carey and C & C Music Factory,
respectively. Not only will Aerosmith give the label a much needed
hard-rock presence, but the group will be useful in attracting other
    hard-rock acts.

At Geffen, Aerosmith's record sales have steadily increased; its most
recent album, *Pump*, sold nearly 6 million copies worldwide. "This
was the toughest decision we've ever had to make," says the group's
manager, Tim Collins. "We love the people at Geffen. But in the
Nineties, I need the depth of catalog that Sony has and the commitment
they've made. We have a mission with this band, and nothing is going
to stop us. We have a vision for Aerosmith as the greatest rock & roll
    band."

Collins apparently is sincere when he compliments the "people at
Geffen"; however, according to sources close to both the band and the
record company, Collins and David Geffen had a major falling out - a
situation that played a part in the band's decision to leave. "Tim
Collins hates David Geffen," says a source close to Geffen. "Aerosmith
will have a miserable time at Geffen. If Geffen is putting out three
albums at the same time and, for instance, one was from Guns n' Roses,
another was by a hot act and the third was by Aerosmith, I could
imagine Geffen killing for Guns n' Roses and the other act and devoting
the time they have left over to Aerosmith."

Although Geffen initially was in on the bidding for Aerosmith, label
president Ed Rosenblatt says that the company evaluated the numbers and
decided that the deal Aerosmith was after didn't make sense.

"It got crazy," says Rosenblatt. "We've been through a lot with the
group. It's great to see all that they've done in terms of improving
their lives and their career. But this is a business. The numbers
were just too out of line. And I can't understand why Sony decided to
to this - I just can't figure it out."

I agree with a reply a few back, that is it would be good if Sony
would also sign some new bands. Even as it stands though I don't
think any new band be it popular or "new" in sound has much of a
chance of becoming as popular as Aerosmith in four years so even
if they put out material which is relatively not as good as their
best the many fans will still buy it as well as newcomers, yea,
that's right 13 and up or there-about-year olds. Granted Sony
has to sell a fair amount of discs...

Anyone know the details of the MTV 10th anniversary celebration at
the Wang Center or more specifically how it relates to Aerosmith?

I heard something about them being filmed for a video or something
that night. I believe the only way to get tickets is by winning
them from 'BCN like much like the way they did for their birthday
party back a few years at the Centrum. I still think they sounded
the best I had ever heard them that night.

	Howdy,

Just went to Aerosmith's taping of "Dream On" for MTv's
10th anniversary show at the Wang Center last night.
It was *GREAT*. Me an' my buddy started off way up in
the nosebleeds, but after two unexpected ticket upgrades
we were sitting in the tenth row. Aerosmith's performance
was incredible. The set after they had finished taping
for "Dream On" was rather short, but they sounded
infinitely better than when I saw them at Great Woods last
year. The mini-concert features such songs as: Young Lust,
Love in an Elevator, Big Ten Inch (Record) and Walk This Way.
If any other HM noters were there, I'd sure like to know
	whatcha thought of the show.

I was there.. I thought the show was great. My wife and I were sitting
up high in altitude. We came pretty close to getting ticket upgrade.
WAAF took 4 people right next to us. I thought when they recorded the
Ochestra alone was totally excellent. Imagine that.....Dream On scored
for an entire Ochestra. They are all sounding so good these days. The
mini show afterwards was cool. I love that tune "Last Child". I wish
they played for a while longer. Its cool that they also do it to
benefit the Boston Food Bank. The last 2 years they played we Got
backstage by bringing 100 cans per person...that was cool...My wife
and I are into them alot. We run into Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer
usually about once a month. We have bumped into Steven and Joe Perry
several times at the cinema up from my house in Kingston,MA. Its funny
because Steven will come in wearing the ussual Rock and Roll getup, but
he wears a Bandana covering the bottom part of his face...like nobodies
gonna recognize him....when the people spot him its like a mad rush..
My mother-in-law works at the theatre so she brings them down to the
theatre and helps to keep the crowd in control. I like that they are
    such a LOCAL band.

The word is that the new Album is being recorded as we speak. They
were slated to start recording on 8-1-91, but they were a little behind
schedule. They didnt want to go far way to begin recording, because
Brad's wife was pregnant. Now she's had the baby, they are going away to
record. I can get the exact details if anyone is interested. Ive heard
that the new material is just as good as Pump. Album should be out
around March...with a tour started in the Spring. Joey K. was telling

I figured Id post this for anybody who hasnt heard the story or doesnt
    know exactly what happened:

On Wednesday, December 18th at about 9:00am, there was a fire at the
Tyler residence in Marshfield, MA. It started in the kitchen. Everybody
was ok. Steven's wife climbed down a fire ladder from the 2nd story.
Being pregnant, shouldnt carry their daughter Chelsea down the ladder.
She was dropped safely to someone below. Steven sustained a sprained
ankle in his rescue attempt. He even went back in to save his cat. The
house did not burn completely, but the water and smoke damage basically
ruined the place. Im happy everyone was ok. If anyone knows differently
from the above story, please comment. This information came from a
conversation with one of the band members.

Please read this, it took me a lot of time... 8)

As promised, here is the complete song list, along with comments
from the band members, from their new box set.

                                  PANDORA'S BOX

        Disc 1:

        	1. When I Needed You (2:34)

(Recorded by the group Chain Reaction, 1966)
Says Steven, "I can't ever forget how excited I
was about being in an actual recording band. It
was a total dream come true. The other side of
it is that it's a pretty lame song. I never got
a cent. So that was my first taste of
                        'shysterism.'"

        	2. Make It (3:45)

(From the album "Aerosmith") Tom says, "Our
first song from our first album, and for a long
time it was our show opener. Just a great way to
                        get things going."

        	3. Movin' Out (5:42)

        		(Previously unreleased alternate version, from
the album "Aerosmith") Joe says, "We wrote that
sitting on Mark Lehman's waterbed at 1325
Commonwealth Avenue." Steven says, "It's the
first song we ever wrote together."

        	4. One Way Street (6:59)

(From the album "Aerosmith") Joey says, "I can
remember Tom and me drillin' on the 'one way
street shuffle' until we drove the old lady
downstairs crazy. Tom on his bass and me on a
kitchen chair and a pedal on a cardboard box."

        	5. On The Road Again (3:36)

        		(Unreleased rehearsal pre-production jam) Joey
says, "This was one of the first songs that we
learned. We played it at clubs and high school
dances, and other than that, I have no
recollection of the recording of it. Needless to
say where I was at the time."

         	6. Mama Kin (4:25)

(From the album "Aerosmith") Says Joe, "This was
one that Steven brought with him from before
Aerosmith. Steven obviously loved that one - I
mean, he did have it tattooed on his arm. But
when I first heard it I was afraid that the
chords were too simple. But inevitably the best
                        ones are the easy ones."

        	7. Same Old Song And Dance (3:53)

(From the album "Get Your Wings") Says Joe, "I
remember we were all living together again for a
summer, and that was one of the songs we came up
with. I remember sitting on an amp in the living
room of our place, and coming up with the riff
for that one, and then Steven came up with the
bridge." Steven says, "Great horns! Just a
great groove song. I'm always on the lookout for
a song that grooves out. A real classic Joe
Perry riff. - I just filled in the blanks. I
hate to spell things out too much, but that was
about one girl who was pulling on my guitar
player's balls. But that's not important."

        	8. Train Kept A Rollin' (5:33)

(From the album "Get Your Wings") Joe says,
"This one was a standard. All of us loved the
Yardbirds' version. This song was part of a
common ground. We all knew it and had played it
before we got together. Our version was pretty
sterile on the album, but it was a great song for
us to play, more our kind of thing than something
                        like 'Roll Over Beethoven.'"

        	9. Seasons Of Wither (5:39)

(From the album "Get Your Wings") Joe says, "Of
all the ballads, this is one I really like.
Steven does them really well, but I never really
liked us doing ballads at all. I didn't want
anything wussy on our records. I always figured
the only thing worth playing slow was a slow
blues." Steven says, "You know what Tuinals and
Seconal are? Well, I was eating those at the
time, big time. I was living with Joey Kramer
near a chicken farm. It was Halloween and I was
really down. So I went down to the basement,
burned some incense, and picked up this guitar
that Joey had found in a dumpster somewhere. It
was fretted pretty f*cked, and it had a special
tone to it. And that tuning forced that song
right out. I love that song. The other day I
was coming out of Mann's Theater in Los Angeles
after a movie and on the curb there's a guy
playing 'Seasons Of Wither' note for note. What
                        a trip."

        	10. Write Me A Letter (4:18)

(Unreleased live version) Brad says, "We
arranged this one in the old Celtics locker room
                        in the Boston Garden."

        	11. Dream On (4:25)

(From the album "Aerosmith") Steven says, "For
me this song sums up the sh*t you put up with
when you're in a new band. Only one in fifty
people who write about you pick up on the music.
Most of the critics panned our first album, and
said we were ripping off the Stones. And I think
'Dream On' is a great song, but it was two or
three years before people really got a chance to
hear it. That's a good barometer of my anger at
the press, which I still have. 'Dream On' came
of me playing piano when I was about seventeen or
eighteen, and I didn't know anything about
writing a song. It was just this little...sonnet
that I started playing one day. I never thought
then it would end up being a real song or
                        anything.

        	12. Pandora's Box (5:42)

(From the album "Get Your Wings") Joey says, "We
were rehearsing up in New Hampshire, and I was
living in Vermont. I had this old piece of sh*t
acoustic guitar that I'd found in the trash years
before, and I came up with the riff on that. I
played it for Steven, and he went to work. This
one was a thrill for me because it was the first
                        one I'd ever written."

        	13. Rattlesnake Shake (10:28)

(Live radio broadcast WKRQ, Cincinatti, 1971)
Says Tom, "This is just one of the defining songs
in Aerosmith history. That song, and our version
of it, sort of put together the sound that all of
us love to play." Says Steven, "If there was one
song that got me to play with Joe Perry - this is
the song. And the story goes...I had it up to my
earlobes playing with these various bar bands
from New York City. It just didn't make it and I
couldn't take it, so I jumped up from behind the
drums, strangled the guitar player and hitchhiked
to New Hampshire where I saw Joe Perry and Tom
Hamilton playing in a club I had played so many
times before with bands that just didn't have the
groove that the Jam Band had that night. The
club was a b.y.o.b. called The Barn. They were
there - the Jam Band so out of tune, not really
very good players, but the groove was so good
that therein laid the magic. You didn't have to
be the greatest player - you just needed to have
the groove and the attitude - they said it all in
that one song - the attitude and the humor."

        	14. Walkin' The Dog (3:13)

(Live radio broadcast WKRQ, Cincinatti, 1971)
Joe says, "One of the early tunes we played in
clubs. It was on a lot of early set lists, and
it still finds its way to one of our set lists
                        sometimes now."

        	15. Lord Of The Thighs (7:13)

("TEXXAS JAM" live recording, 1978) Joe says,
"This song was ahead of its time. It sounds as
good to me now as it did then, if not better."
Steven says, "Was I Lord of the Thighs? F*ck
                        yeah."

        Disc 2:

        	1. Toys In The Attic (3:05)

(From the album "Toys In The Attic") Joe says,
"A benchmark rock n' roll song for Aerosmith -
that kind of fast tune that was always a favorite
of mine. This was sort of the first one. There
                        were many more to follow."

        	2. Round And Round (5:02)

(From the album "Toys In The Attic") Brad says,
"I don't remember a whole lot about this one. I
just remember being in the Record Plant, and I
had the main riff of that song. It was one of
those riffs that everybody said, 'We've got to do
something with that.' It turned into quite a
                        production."

        	3. Krawhitham (3:59)

        		(Previously unreleased instrumental, recorded
1977) Brad says, "That's the sound of Joey, Tom,
and I, entertaining ourselves during the Draw The
Line sessions while we were waiting for Steven
and Joe to wake up and get their sh*t together."
Tom says, "Usually, those two didn't even come
down from upstairs. So we'd drive our Ferraris
around Armonk, New York for a while, then jam and
record. We had a good time, but then again we
didn't." Joey says, "Unlike Tom and Brad, I'm a
little confused over exactly when we recorded
this. But then it was a pretty confused time."

        	4. You See Me Crying (5:12)

(From the album "Toys In The Attic") Says Brad,
"The majority of the song was constructed at the
Record Plant in New York City. Many long hours."

        	5. Sweet Emotion (4:34)

(From the album "Toys In The Attic") Steven
says, "A lot of stuff I wrote in the old days
just came out of anger. 'Sweet Emotion' was
about how pissed off I was at Joe's ex-wife, and
all the other frustrations of the time. I could
never get through to him. To this day, he wears
a lot of armor, but the music was always the
saving grace. And if that's the way he chooses
to let me in, that's fine. I just need to keep
coming up with my own passwords to get in there."
Tom says, "This one came at the very end of the
Toys In The Attic sessions. I had my part, but I
was too shy to say, 'Hey, let's work on it'. But
somehow we had an extra day at the end, and Jack
said, 'Anyone have anything we can jam on?' And
so this one made it at the last minute. I
remember showing Steven this riff a couple of
times during the Get Your Wings sessions and he
just didn't like it. My immediate reaction was
just to forget it. But one day we started the
riff at a different point, and it shed a whole
new light on it. But nothing happened with it
till the next album, Toys In The Attic. The rest
is history. It's still a song I'm very proud
                        of."

        	6. No More No More (4:33)

(From the album "Toys In The Attic") Brad says,
"This is one of the songs that I really liked
where Steven does his little storytelling bit
about life within the band. It's him talking
honestly about an interesting slice of the
Aerosmith story." Joe says, "I still love this
song because of Steven's lyrics. It's not one of
those stupid, generic 'I love rock n' roll' songs
that some bands do. It's a real song about the
rock n' roll lifestyle, or our rock n' roll
lifestyle. I don't know if it's the definitive
song about life on the road, and I don't even
care. It's like a page from our diary."

        	7. Walk This Way (3:40)

(From the album "Toys In The Attic") Says Tom,
"We were rehearsing that riff, and I don't think
Steven was even around that day as we practiced
it and arranged it. And that night we went with
Jack Douglas to the movies and say Young
Frankenstein. There's that part in the movie
where Igor says 'walk this way', and the other
guy walks the same way with the hump and
everything. We thought it was the funniest thing
we'd ever seen in our lives. So we told Steven,
the name of this song has got to be 'Walk This
Way', and he took it from there." Steven says,
"I remember reading in a newspaper, in like 1976,
and there's this article in there about how
disgusting rock lyrics are, and they used 'Walk
This Way' as an example of how lyrics should be
nice and wholesome. I couldn't believe it.
Obviously, they didn't get the meaning of 'you
ain't seen nothing' till you're down on the
                        muffun'."

        	8. I Wanna Know Why (3:04)

("TEXXAS JAM" live recording") Tom says, "We
were going down to the wire on Draw The Line, and
a lot of stuff was coming down on Steven . I
always thought this song was Steven's reaction to
all the sh*t he was getting into at the time."

        	9. Big Ten-Inch Record (4:01)

("TEXXAS JAM" live recording) Says Steven, "I
was listening to a tape of Dr. Demento given me
by an old friend of ours called Zonk, and I heard
this song, which is originally from like 1936.
The big rumor is that I say 'Suck on my big 10
inch' on the record. I don't. I'm saying 'cept'
                        - as in except - not 'suck'. But no one in the
                        whole world believes me."

        	10. Rats In The Cellar (4:06)

(From the album "Rocks") Says Joe, "We needed an
answer to Toys In The Attic. We were getting
lower and more down and dirty. So the cellar
seemed like a good place to go."

        	11. Last Child (3:52)

(Remix of original version from the album
"Rocks") Says Tom, "I remember putting it
together at the Wherehouse. It was a big room
with a high ceiling. We hung up all these
drapes. We were basically like a bunch of kids
building forts." Says Joe, "This is an example
of Aerosmith at our most funky. I remember we
were listening to stuff like the Meters." Says
Steven, "I always loved this one. Just a little
ditty that Brad brought in that became a hit."

        	12. All Your Love (5:27)

(Previously unreleased, recorded 1977) Tom says,
"We weren't into covering like the hits of the
day - we were just choosing the songs that we
loved. That's just a typical electric blues sort
of thing form the Sixties. We were formulating
our style by who we covered." Joe says, "This
was one of those songs we all played in bands
before we played together. There were only a
handful, because like Steven was playing the
Abbey Road album while Tom and I were doing the
MC5. But we both were into ones like this and
                        'Train Kept A Rollin'."

        	13. Soul Saver (0:53)

        		(Previously unreleased rehearsal, 1975) Steven
says, "The beginnings of "Nobody's Fault". When
you really listen to each other, and have a
little perseverance, even a really sh*tty riff
                        can become a great song."

        	14. Nobody's Fault (4:22)

(From the album "Rocks") Tom says, "One of a
long string of Brad Whitford songs in the key of
                        F-sharp."

        	15. Lick And A Promise (3:05)

(From the album "Rocks") Steven says, "This is
one about going out and winning an audience.
It's a tough thing to do. It's one of our songs
that's just a real moment in time."

        	16. Adam's Apple (4:48)

(Unreleased live version, 1977) Steven says,
"One of the greatest put together songs that
Aerosmith ever did. Those were my thoughts on
UFO's, the theory of evolution, the monkey and
Adam and Eve. How incredibly naive to think that
there were just those two people just buzzing
around the woods naked, having a blast."

        	17. Draw The Line (3:43)

(Remix of the original version from the album
"Draw The Line") Joe says, "One of my favorite
riffs that I ever wrote. It's a simple thing,
but so are most of the ones that stick to you."

        	18. Critical Mass (4:51)

(From the album "Draw The Line") Tom says, "I
remember writing it on the bass like 'Sweet
Emotion', then writing a guitar part around it.
In those days we'd always record the basic track
without any idea what the song was about. And I
thought the song was bizarre at first, but I came
to really like it. It's like a chant with a
                        great production."

        Disc 3:

        	1. Kings And Queens (5:31)

(Unreleased live version, 1978) Steven says,
"I've always had a fancy to do songs about
anarchy and the church and the government. This
is not the only one - there's also something like
'St. John.' The band comes up with the licks,
and then the music talks to me and tells me what
it's about. This one was just about how many
people died from holy wars because of their
beliefs, or non-beliefs. With that one, my brain
was back with the knights of the round table and
                        that sh*t - I do a lot of fantasizing."

        	2. Milkcow Blues (4:14)

(From the album "Draw The Line") Tom says, "This
one goes all the way back to when Joe and I were
                        in the Jam Band."

        	3. I Live In Connecticut (0:56)

(Previously unreleased, recorded 1979) Joe says,
"On a boxed set there's room for some weird
                        stuff, I guess."

        	4. Three Mile Smile (3:44)

(From the album "Night In The Ruts") Brad says,
"Both Jimmy and I recorded solos for this song.
Steven liked Jimmy's solo better and his is the
one that you hear on the record, and I'm still
                        pissed about it."

        	5. Let It Slide (2:54)

        		(Previously unreleased, recorded 1979) Says
Steven, "This shows what a song is like in the
beginning (in this case, 'Cheese Cake'), and what
it can become. And that's a big part of being a
band - building something up from a riff."

        	6. Cheese Cake (4:15)

(From the album "Night In The Ruts") Says Joe,
"The song was done in one take with no overdubs.
When I played that track I went from a regular
6-string to a lapsteel and back, live in the
studio. Even though the band was falling apart
in every other way, it was a testament to how we
                        were playing."

        	7. Bone To Bone (Coney Island White Fish Boy) (2:59)

(From the album "Night In the Ruts") Steven
says, "A Coney Island White Fish is a scumbag.
When you lived by the Hudson River like I did,
you always saw these things floating by on their
way to sea. They were rubbers - guys would tie
'em up and they'd just keep floating. And that,
boys and girls, is a Coney Island White Fish."

        	8. No Surprize (4:26)

(From the album "Night In The Ruts") Steven
says, "It's ironic that most of the songs that we
did that tell the true story of the band end up
on some back burner album so people didn't really
hear 'em. This is one where I just spell it all
out - and it's also a pretty damn good song."
Joe says, "This was one of the real good ones
from Night In The Ruts. If we'd been more
together that might have been the album where we
took what we'd done on Rocks, but we were too
f*cked up to really pull it all together, and to
support it. That's one of the reasons I left
                        around then."

        	9. Come Together (3:44)

(From the album "Greatest Hits") Joe says, "It
was really cool to be in the studio with George
Martin. You always wondered what it would be
like to be in the studio with one of the Beatles,
and he was sort of the fifth Beatle. It was kind
of intimidating, but we weren't too easily
                        intimidated in those days."

        	10. Downtown Charlie (2:35)

(Unreleased jam, recorded 1978) Joe says,
"'Downtown Charlie' just sounds like one of our
drunken jams." Brad says, "A lot of times in the
studio, boredom sets in and I try to stir things
up with a little R&R off-the-cuff stuff. Most of
the time they would never go anywhere, but
occasionally the band would catch on. This is
one of those rare moments, a complete
free-for-all jam, that we discovered on a tape
when we were putting this boxed set together."

        	11. Sharpshooter (5:29)

(From the album "Whitford/St. Holmes") Says
Brad, "'Sharpshooter' was one of the first songs
that Derek and I came up with. I actually wrote
it while I was still with Aerosmith, but we just
never did anything with it. When I got together
with Derek, we put it together in about a half
                        hour."

        	12. Shit House Shuffle (0:35)

(Previously unreleased, recorded 1979) Joe says,
"At first I thought, who's gonna be interested in
this? But then I figured maybe someone will get
                        something out of it."

        	13. South Station Blues (4:10)

(From the album by The Joe Perry Project "I've
Got The Rock N' Rolls Again") Joe says, "Another
example of me insisting I can sing."

        	14. Riff & Roll (3:16)

(Unreleased jam, recorded 1981) Joey says,
"Always thought it was a great song, but we never
got around to using it. As a matter of fact, I
                        still like it."

        	15. Jailbait (4:38)

(From the album "Rock In A Hard Place") Tom
says, "This is a Jimmy Crespo riff. This song
really made us feel like we had one in the
pocket. It seemed impossible to hear it without
getting blown away." Joe says, "Even though I
wasn't around for that song, I think it's pretty
hot. I would have done it a little differently,
but if anything I'm a little jealous that I
                        didn't play on it."

        	16. Major Barbara (5:05)

        		(Previously unreleased alternative version,
recorded 1971) Joey says, "I always thought this
                        was velvety smooth."

        	17. Chip Away The Stone (4:06)

        		(Previously unreleased version, recorded 1978)
Tom says, "It's a Richie Supa song that we always
thought was going to be a single. It's sort of a
pet song, but he public never seemed to like it
quite as much as we did."

        	18. Helter Skelter (3:13)

(Previously unreleased, recorded 1975) Tom says,
"I don't remember much about this one, but it
                        certainly sounds pretty cool."

        	19. Back In The Saddle (4:40)

(From the album "Rocks") Joe says, "To me this
is the kind of riff and instrumentation that
falls outside the normal formula of a rock song.
I wrote it on a six string bass. It was one of
those songs that really opened things up for us."

Well that's it, folks. I now have arthritis, thank you. FWIW, I
hated writing "Joe says," and "Says Steven," OVER
and OVER, and OVER...but you gotta know who says
                        what...

hope ya enjoyed it as much as I didn't! ;)

Been there. Done that.

(Of course, this was back in the days when Steve was passing out on stage
and Joe was too introverted to talk to anyone, least of all the lighting
guy for the warm-up act. I hung out with Joe a couple of times at the
Channel during the "project" days. I was free-lancing lights for Gary Shane
at the time and Gary hung with Joe quite a bit. We're talking circa '83-84.)

I sure am glad that they got their s__t back together. "Pump" is going to
be one hard act to follow but, knowing those guys, they'll come back

Hee hee. I've heard *that* story before. The music is always done before
Steven finishes the lyrics.

John Kalodner (sp?) is a good friend of the band and has been helping
them out for quite a while. He isn't a producer or engineer, per se,
he just goes into the studio with them and guides them when necessary
and kicks their butts when necessary. He quite frequently helps Steven
smooth out lyrics that might otherwise prevent a song from getting
radio airplay, let alone being a hit, if you get my drift. The way
Steven originally wrote "Jamie's got a gun", he had a gratuitously
filthy line in the song. Kalodner made him change it because he heard
hit potential and didn't want the song to be banned from radio.

I think it's kinda nice to have a mentor like that.

Well, if they paid no regard to whether or not their songs were playable on
the radio then they wouldn't be huge megastars and they wouldn't have the
$$$ to help out other struggling artists. It's real nice to see big stars
like these guys who haven't forgotten their roots.

Artistic integrity is one thing, putting food on the table is another.
It is possible to strike a balance between the two by toning down lyrics
that are needlessly "obscene."

In the case of "Jamie's Got A Gun" the change was very subtle. Steve's
meaning is still there, he just changed a dirty word that you can't use
on radio. The song is, if I remember correctly, about a very touchy subject
to begin with: a woman who murders her abusive husband after he does
something unmentionable to their small child. The "unmentionable" thing
is the word that Steve changed to prevent the song being banned on radio.
An astute listener can still figure out what's going on.

I actually agree too with what you said in cases like that particular
song...my comment was not meant to be negative in anyway to them I was
primarily trying to say bands that go the route for bubble gum pop
hits rather than something more creative or interesting that they're
probably capable of doing. The argument for bread on the table
I don't think factors in for established bands as much as it does
for new bands that might cross over since they're particular art
form may only be of interest to enough people to eat occasionally.
As for their roots they still remain the one band who has definitely
stuck by this and still seem to maintain that BIG local band style,
even with Perry played the rat, etc....a while back it was as if he
was just some new local band playing the circuit.

As well sticking to the original comment I don't recall mentioning
that song specifically (or maybe I missed earlier comments) but in
general any band that goes for the hit (is that a science) over
doing what they want to do. I'd say bands like Pete and many others fit
the example, hardly bubble gum posters. A bit of best of both worlds
not too limited a potential audience but yet not watered down.

Actually the reason I came back here was to see if anyone has heard
the re-braodcast that 'BCN (it's been on before) played a couple
weeks ago of their early club show at Boston Paul's Mall. The club
was located some where on Bolyston before my time..
	Tom P. you out there?

Hey, |Kenny_G_Spot|; yes, I heard "Livin on the Edge" on my way home
from work this evening and I was struck by the fact that it sounded
like it could have been a track from the White Album or Sgt. Pepper...
Then, what TOTALLY amazed me, is that I went to the store 2nite to buy
the current US Magazine, which has a GREAT interview with Tyler in it..
and Tyler says (like, I freaked out when I read it) that when they
wrote "Livin" that he felt like John Lennon was in the room...

I heard the entire album (13 cuts) not once, but twice last night on
AAF. Overall, it's GREATLY improved over the last 4 albums by the
band (well, arguably Permanent Vacation). It's def. back to the
guitar-based, funky rock that A-smith was known for in the early 80s
(like Night in the Ruts days). It's NOT as raw as Toys/Get your Wings,
so don't expect that, but it is a lot better...

eary '70s days as Shut_Up_And_Dance Hard_Rockers who lived in a group

"We could have played it safe and kept on goin the way of our last
Album,'Pump.'It had some good songs, but was Startin to Sound A_Little
Smooth,"Says Guitarist Joe Perry."It was time to get back to the
    Roots".
"What else is more AreoSmith? It Rocks and Kicks_Butt!"adds Mad_Cap
Singer Steve Tyler.Plopped on a Sofa in the 4_Seasons_Hotel with Perry
and Drummer Joey Kramer. The New albums first
    Single,"Livin'_On_The_Edge",has Stream_Linded,Beatlesque_Harmonies,
but most songs have a Hammer_Down Guitar_Rock Vengeance in such Blue_
Collar Anthems as"Eat_The_Rich","Flesh"(Every_Bodys got to have it)
and the Apt"Shut_Up And Dance".There are touches of Social_Commentary
    ("Livin_On_The_Edge" blasts Racism)and Confessional_Balladry("Amazing"
is About findin Hope after Drugs,)But most of it is Designed to get
you down the High_Way in Record time, with a Big Prankster Smile on

Kramer says"The Natural tendency is to Move on and Progress in an
    Up_Ward Motion.People concider that Progress.But Some_Times it's
harder to Stick to yer Roots and keep a finger on the Orginal Source
of energy. It's Some_Times Real Hard. But thats what I like About this
    Record.It's Really what we're about.It's the Bottom_Line.Like Joe said
'Pump'was a good Record and so was the one before
that,"Permanent_Va_Cay".And thats where we were at that Point_Of_Time.
But now We've Come back around now. This is about what we were really
    about from the beginnin.We're a Guitar_Band"

Perry Says"When you talk about Risks,A_Lot of people would say that
this is a Noisy Record compared to the last one,But it's the Noize
    that makes it Good"

Tyler ProClaims"There was times last Summer when we were Writtin at
    Joe's House that I thought,'I've never had so Much Fun'.And I Couldn't
stop Laughin about what we were Wrightin..Just Fun,Out_Rageous stuff.
It's kind of like a Hermit_Crab.You're down in this Little_Hole and you
stick yer head out and look Around fer A_Minute,then you come back and
    Write.It was Hilarious!There was A_Couple of times I Said'Joe,We gotta

The news I got last night from WAAF and MTV, Megadeath
was taking over the opening act from Jackyl. Everything
was going ok until the lead singer on Megadeath opened his mouth
and said Aerosmith isn't good enough for them and that Aerosmith
should be the opening act. Megadeath was immediately cut from the
tour and Jackyl was suppose to be finishing the tour.

96.433Aerosmith show at Great Woods 8/27 - ReviewCIM1NI::LUPISELLAMon Aug 30 1993 17:1356

Anyone see one or both of the shows at Great Woods this past week? I
went to the Friday show - I was somewhat dissapointed. First let me say
that the show itself was great and the crowd all seemed to enjoy every
minute of the show. My only problem was that age old problem with old
bands that tour behind the new album - too much new. The old songs that
they played (as far as I can remember) were

    	1. Dream On 2. Sweet Emotion 3. Toys 4. Back in the Saddle
        5. Train 6. Walk this Way

There may have been a couple more that I just don't recall. Maybee
someone else at the show can add to the list. But even 8 old tunes out
of a two hour + show? I think they push too much of the new tunes.

I could have done without :

    1. Eat the Rich (dissapointing opener)

    2. Love in an Elevator (probably catch flack for this one)

    3. "Dude" (flack for that one too)

    4. A couple of blues tunes that Joe Perry did center stage came off
well but I would have been more than happy to have them take that
time and do a couple of others - like Mama Kin and/or Seasons of
       Wither.

    5. Also - the review from the Thursday show said that they did "One Way
Street" from the first album. That was left off of the Friday show.
       Major disspointment.

O.K. enough complaints, songs that I thought came off well

    1. Honkey Tonk Women (During Draw the Line) awesome.

    2. Draw the Line iteslf. (Funky variation - great live)

    3. Living on the Edge (Good and loud - big crowd pleaser)

    4. What it Takes (Crowd sang almost every single word along with Steve)

    5. Cryin' (Latest hit - real powerful live)

    6. Dream On (Flick those Bic lighters - a memorable classic live)

    7. Train (Always done great by them)

Scale of 1 to 10 - i'll give it an 8. But this could have easily been a 10
    from these guys.

Maybee they should have called me to do the set list (HA HA HA yeah right)

Anyone else out there care to give a review? I'd like to hear some others.

I'm surprised nobody has talked about A-smith's performance on
SNL this past weekend. I missed their first number, but they did
"Sweet Emotion" for the second. I thought they sounded great on this
tune. Tyler and the band even made a few cameo appearances in some of
the skits. Tyler looks like he's about 50 years old! ;-)

I also thought it their choice of gear was interesting. They always
struck me as Marshall bigots. Brad was playing through a Peavey 5150,
Tom through a Hartke, and Joe through a pair of Fender halfstacks
    (anyone know what they were?).

just saw aerosmith on 29th oct. in Glasgow scotland. i had went to see
VAI and wasn't especially interested in aerosmith, i'm not a fan as
such. they did put on a good show though with lots of "hits" for people
like myself. i think it would irritate diehards though.

they played eat the rich to open and followed with hits like walk this
way, livin on the edge, dude looks like a lady. i thought that steven
tyler was by far the most impressive of the band and frequently sang
(screeched) louder than the whole band put together. joe perry did a
song. the drummer (joey?) did a solo (not bad) as did brad whitford.

i've now borrowed some a'smith from my girlfriend so it couldn't have
    too bad.

ps. VAI are excellent...devin townsend is absolutely "off his head"
whoever said steve vai couldn't play live is talking rubbish...he even
was doing the michael angelo bit playing over the neck...he also
destroyed his 7-string guitar with a talking feedback section where he
completely abused the guitar to great effect.

only disappiontment of the night was Terry "Ted" Bozzio. i saw him with
jeff beck and have listened to him with zappa etc.. he really didn't do
anything outstanding (my mate was even less interested in the rest of
the show as he is a zappa fanatic and had come to see Bozzio only. he
was dissapointed). i thought he complememted the band well, but isn't
that what a drummer should do:-)

I read in "Berklee Today" in an interview with Vai that Bozzio was NOT
doing the tour with the Vai live band. Said they had some other dude

When I saw Vai about a month ago, Bozzio was definitly NOT drumming.
He played on the album, but wasn't touring with the group. Also, the
bass player in the live band wasn't TM Stevens, who played on the
    album.

I also saw Bozzio with Jeff Beck a few years back and I can't even
imagine him not playing anything less then extraordinary.

Great live band. I've heard most of the album now and it doesn't do
their live show justice. The live show has a lot more energy.

in retrospec, the drumkit used might give the game away, no large crash

i could be wrong though - perhaps i need glasses :-(.

on aerosmith, what kind of amps was joe perry using. they looked pretty
knackered and i couldn't make out the logos from where i was. they
sounded superb during his solo section, very atmospheric.

Yeah, Devin played guitar on some of the songs when I saw them.
Seemed like a decent player, he was playing some of the harmony leads
with Steve. And yes, he also did that same percussion thing with Steve
conducting. A very entertaining show with more variety to it then I
    expected.

As far as Joe Perry goes, he usually plays Marshalls and Soldanos, with
an occasional appearance by something else (Orange, Peavey 5150,
Fender). However, when I saw Aerosmith on Saturday Night Live a couple
of months back, he was playing through a Fender rig.

Since a 340 Meg drive costs about $250-300 you can figure out how much it would
cost to store the file.

Geez, this is the H_M file, but everybody has to whip out their
calculators to check other people arithmetic! I only did it because
10,000 blocks seemed kind of low for 47 Meg.

    For the record: 47 * 1024 * 1024 / 512 = 96256

Now watch... Rob'll probably pop in and say that the file was really

What good is it?
96.489KDX200::ROBRDust fills my eyes...Wed Jun 29 1994 17:1613

well, a megabyte is in reality 1,048,576 bytes as im sure was
mentioned. however, speaking in general terms, 47 meg is just that,
47,000,000 bytes. people dont sit there and compute exactly how many
meg a hard drive really is, or how big a program REALLY is in terms of
meg. they do a 'dir' and use the size. 1k is really 1024 bytes, a
program that is 349,234 is really 341k, but would be called a 349 or
350k program. so yes, i've messed you all up now.

Not exactly. You followed popular terminology, which technically isn't
correct. A megabyte is still a megabyte, whether people decide to
round down to even thousands or not.

    Greg
96.492of course the 47meg was only an estimation :')KDX200::ROBRDust fills my eyes...Wed Jun 29 1994 18:455

even us tech people use popular terminology, so whoever computed the

That's cause you take the T to Kenmore not Landsdowne. Take the green

     Aerosmith fires longtime manager

By Steve Morse and Jim Sullivan, Globe Staff,
     08/01/96

Tim Collins, who managed Aerosmith for 12 years
and helped revive the band's career and steer its
members to sobriety, was fired yesterday by the
band during a 14-minute meeting at the Four
     Seasons Hotel.

Collins led the group out of a drug-wracked
tailspin in the mid-'80s to become one of the most
highly paid rock bands, signed to a $50 million
     contract with Sony.

``They're great entertainers, but I had a definite
vision and they told me today that they don't
share that vision,'' Collins said after the
meeting. He said they no longer wanted to be urged
to support his social causes, which have included
lobbying for sobriety (he recently wrote an op-ed
piece for The New York Times) and for First
     Amendment rights.

``I think the band felt pushed on social
agendas,'' he said. He added that another sore
point was that band members didn't like his
telling them to record more songs for an album
they thought was finished, though Sony agreed with
him. (The as-yet-untitled album has been postponed
from a September release to Nov. 24.)

Meanwhile, Aerosmith will manage itself and has
installed guitarist Joe Perry as chairman of the
     board.

``It's really a bitch,'' bassist Tom Hamilton said
yesterday. ``I really can't say anything at this
point. It's too fresh and we're just formulating
exactly what we want to say.''

The inevitable question is whether some Aerosmith
members have backslid into drugs. ``It's a big
     question, isn't it?'' Collins said. ``There's a
certain element in the group that hasn't totally
     chosen sobriety.''

Hamilton laughed when asked whether members are
using drugs again. ```Oh no! They're shooting up
again!' No. You can say everybody in the band is
healthy and psyched about the new record.''

``Since this is an issue between Aerosmith and
management, we don't comment on such,'' said a
     Sony Records representative.

Rumors leaked in recent days that Collins and
Aerosmith were on the outs - and Collins has since
been flooded with offers. He said he has turned
down managerial offers from Guns N' Roses, Pearl
Jam, Bruce Hornsby and from Kiss to handle its
     comeback tour.

``I've had five offers this week,'' said Collins.
He wouldn't divulge them, but sources said that
two are from international bands and one is from a
     multi national record company.

``Tim Collins will prosper and succeed, because
he's driven by honesty,'' said Larry Moulter,
former president of the FleetCenter who is now
president of Bob Woolf Associates. ``There will
always be someone who will want to manage
Aerosmith, but there's only one Tim Collins.''

Collins, 42, started with Aerosmith 12 years ago,
having managed Perry for two years before that.
``Joe was living on my couch as a heroin addict,''
said Collins, who has admitted that he had a
hard-drug problem at that time as well.

As for Aerosmith, he said, ``When I came in, they
were dying, emaciated, millions of dollars in debt
and had 32 lawsuits.'' Aerosmith's record sales
have since jumped from 400,000 copies of ``Done
with Mirrors'' to 14.5 million of ``Get a Grip.''

     ``I don't want to hurt Aerosmith. I think they're
the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world,''
Collins said. ``I hope they connect with the right
     energy and the right people.''

This story ran on page e1 of the Boston Globe on
     08/01/96.

I think (IMHO) I'm gonna have to eat my words about this album. SO far
they're batting about .600 with me. I still dislike the Knees tune but
I 've heard two others that I like, "a taste for India" and something
about raising a drinkin' glass. Just when ya think ya should put the
    ol'dog to sleep...ya cath'em humpin'your neighbors leg! Hhmph!
