70.0. "Boston/local bands" by COUGAR::TURBA (TIPPER GORE IS THE ANTI-CHRIST) Wed May 25 1988 21:21

This topic is to talk about the Boston-based bands you
might have had a chance to see in a club.....
H.M. bands aren't required but we don't want any
    	total whimp bands either.......

Has anyone one out there heard of a Boston-Based band called
Noize???? I saw a video of them on the MTV basement tapes,
and wondered if they have gotten any further.....

p.s Pretty good video, and the drummer was very good.

O.K. I'll reply to my own note first.....

One Boston band that I know of pretty well is my
    	brother-in-law's band, The Dharma Bums....

They just cut there first album called "Everything Is Always Allright"
They are not a H.M. but their style of music is a fast,
bluesy type, with a good amount of guitar work.

I myself have not seen them live, they play mostly over 21
clubs, so cannot judge them live. Everyone who has seen them
says that it is a good show though.....

I've got the album and a couple good cuts are..

    	Rosalee
    	Red Wine Mustache(SP?)

This type of music isn't my style, but I did enjoy those
    	2 songs.....

The Extremes' album will be released in Jan of `89 for anybody
who is interested. Caught an awesome show of their's at Grovers
in Beverly recently. Gary ( lead singer ) is hot! He was non stop
all over the place. Nuno ( lead guitar ) is a phenom! The man can
plain out play some guitar! Opinions on the band ?

Whats the current scoop with EXTREME?
Heard MUTHA for the first time in a while on AAF. Did they release
this as a single yet? Have they made a video for it yet, a better
one than the video 5 years or so ago.
Are they recording? They play 1 local gig and thats it?

    Just looking for info....

EXTREME are waiting for Nuno to get well before they hit the road. They
are going to Japan in less than 2 weeks for about 6 days and will play
a couple of theatre shows. Headbangers Ball premiered MUTHA about a
month ago. The video was shot at Hammerjacks in Baltimore and in no way
resembles their last MUTHA video. Great article in the newest GUITAR
    WORLD mag on Nuno.
FLESH definately are EXTREME influenced but are no way extreme ripoffs.
High energy......thoughtful lyrics......and "posing" kept to a minimum.

    Hi Butchaka,

This is Diane the mother of "Kim Lombardi" who's movie is premiering
at the WTC in Boston, who is the girlfriend of Rob DeLuca of the
ex-band "Bang". Sorry to tell you but "Bang" broke up, well I really
shouldn't say they broke up, 3 of the original "Bang" members are still
together. They are now located in New York with one new member
and they are called "Spread Eagle". The band is doing fantastic.
They have been signed to a record company in the Big Apple and they
are now in the process of cutting there first album. I personally
have not heard them yet but from what my daughter tells me they
are better than ever. Much better then when they were "Bang".

After the alburm is done they will be doing a few MTV videos but
I don't know exactly when that will be happening.

Well that is the latest on the ex-Bang.

Krazler went on at 6:30... I thought they were GREAT!! The Unattached
were good too... I guess the reason they went on so early is that it
was an 18+ show, and they wanted all the under 21 crowd out by like
    10:00.

Did anyone else make the show???

N.E. ROCKS - Great band out of Mass/N.H. who are VERY talented.
Kicka$$ songs and some great presence live. Their
drummer,Terry Terror, has to be seen (heard) to
be beleived! I will post upcoming shows and highly
                    recommend going.

MAXIMUM ---- Maximum is a hard rock/rock-n-roll band that has
been signed to Enigma. Another great act live.
I heard ("There's a Rumor in the Air,") they were
going to record in early 90'.

Rob, I take it your not very friendly with "The Terror". Many
people have told me he was "Kid Ego", but every time I've talked
to him he's been real down to earth. But hey, everyone isn't going
    to like everyone.
As to him changing his name from Ted to Terry that's sort
of a tribute to his brother who died.(His brother was a drummer
also and I heard his was real good.) Last night N.E. ROCKS played
a show at Amesbury High for S.A.D.D. and Jay(singer) told a story
about Ted's brother and they played "Fox on the Run" by Sweet.(His brother's
favorite band) Also his drum solo was most intense.

                                                       R.C.

FWIW, Buck has seen him play, he probably just
doesn't recall which drummer it was.

Re: 13K set, not unless he got rid of the Ludwig
and bought a Sonor. Top of the line set Ludwig
sells is only about $5K or so (9 or 10 piece), so
even if he added a few more drums, no way he
could come close to $13K. It's amazing what I've
heard people claiming, I've heard everything from
$3K-25K. Ted and I get along when we are
together, but I just don't like his attitude. I
                bear with it though.

70.62The night in reviewCAVLRY::BUCKShe never mentions the word addictionThu Jan 31 1991 14:3657
I went to CITI/AXIS last night for their METAL MESSACRE affair.

They had a ton of bands...let me see if I can remember the list:

    Dirty Looks
    Love Pollution
    Atumba
    Crystal Talon
    Boa
    Witch Bonnie
    Tin Pan Alley
    Extreme
    Enuff Z Nuff

I think that was it. Bands Dirty Looks thru Tin Pan Alley got 20
minute sets, Extreme got a half-hour, and Z Nuff played for an hour.
What a weird gig!! Below are my review and personal comments on each
    act:

Dirty Looks -- Only caught one song. Your basic sludge-rock metal.
The tune didn't interest me, and they were just too trashy/thrashy
for my tastes. Lousy image, too.

Love Pollution -- A *bad* Skid Row imitation band! Ok image, immature
stage presence, and mediocre songs. They need to hon their act!

Atumba -- Lousy songs...a poor Extreme rip-off band (ugh!). Their funk
didn't have any funk, their grooves were contrived. Ok on the image
side and stage show, but the songs were really poor. Singer needs to
loose the Freddie Mercury image...it's 1991 bud!

Crystal Talon -- At this point, I said to myself "What is this, sludge
rock night?!?" I didn't like the guitarists sound...very sharp. And
walk about procesed vocals...that Yam Rev 7 was working overtime with
this band. They said they had the #1 song on BCN's HMFH show for
three weeks in a row. After they played it, I said "why?!?". They
were ok...good vocals...good stage presence, but I did not like their
    material at all...very unmelodic metal.

Boa -- Ahh, they were a relief. Great stage presence and look, and
they had songs with substance. One thing, the bassist needs to go,
he totally doesn't fit in with the band. Otherwise, very good.

Witch Bonnie -- Oppps, we slipped back a tad into the sludge-rock
vein. They were pretty good...ok image and presence, but they songs
    didn't blow me away.

Tin Pan Alley -- Anotehr good band. Good songs, look. They had it
together...no wonder they went on right before Extreme.

Extreme -- What can I say...they were Extreme. They played a good
selection of songs for a 30 minute set, but mostly dabbled in the
Porno... album, which I really don'ty like, so...

Enuff Z Nuff -- They were better than when I saw them open for Mr. Big
at the Paradise last year, but stil their stage presence bugs me.
Good tunes for their genre, but the look/moves thing needs work still.

Well, I got my info from the soundman's band/set time list at the
mixing board. Pardon my error, which was actually his error. As I
said, I came in late for them, so I wouldn't have know the difference
if they were Dirty Trixx, or Looks, or whatever.

Also, I never said the guitarist was a twit...'prissy is the only real
TWIT(tm) around here! ;^) I just said their gig didn't interest me.
But then again, most R&R hasn't interested my much of late anymore, so

Hey! Caught Mystreator, NE Rocks and Street Heart the other night.

First off, Mark Clemmens and I both determined that he could NOT give
me a race for my money in the hair category :')

I liked several of Mystreator's songs and thought they had some market
potential. There were a couple that had some poor key changes in the
midst that detracted from the rest of the song. The soundman should
have been shot as well. Other than those couple of problems, good
    band.

NE Rocks has improved a great deal since I last was them. They are
concentrating alot more on vocals that most bands. THough the three
part harmonies were simple, I felt it added a lot to the band. Partway
through the show, the guitarists Marshall head blew, so good thing he
had a backup handy. They still carried out the rest of the song
without the guitarist and amde it through very well. They had the best
sound of the night. The songs really weren't to my taste, but they
    also had market potential.

Street Heart... Jeez, I don't know what to say about these guys.
Lousy sound, lousy songs, most of the people left after NE Rocks got
off and I don't blame them. If it hadn't been for me hanging out and
talking with some of the Rocks guys, I would have left to go next door
with everybody else. Definate thumbs down. I hear they are cool
people, but they'd better get back to work on their music skills.

I don't know if Stret Heart was supposed to be the headliner or they
put them on last cause they knew people would leave after the second
    band.

Anybody heard of a local band called Love It To Death? They have a single
out called "Cat Like You" - I heard it once, it was ok but nothing special.
They seemed a little bit poseur, a little bit grungy. I was wondering what
they were like live....

BTW, the band leader is Casey Lindstrom, formerly of the New Models! Sort
of a weird turnaround for him.

RE: 70.92

Sorry for the long delay, I've been real busy lately...

Wicked Witch is an all original hard rock band. They had been playing
very frequently till about a month ago. Rumor had it that they were not
scheduling any new gigs because of a pending record deal. I havn't been in
touch with them for about a month so I don't know what the story is now. I am
going to try and get in touch this weekend so I should know more next week.

	The Band :

	Zack Trussell Vocals
        Matt Leff Guitars
        Jeff Plate Drums
        Mark Stewart Bass

They do have a three song demo out. It was recorded at Courtlen and
Barking Spider Studios. Very well done. The songs are Breakdown, This Time,
and Soul to Fire. For more information you can write to:

		Wicked Witch
                42 Audubon Rd.
                Weymouth, MA 02188

The tape was $5 and worth every penney.

I went to the Agnostic Front show at Man Ray this past Saturday afternoon.
Also appearing were Wrecking Crew, The Bruisers, and Toe Tag (or something
like that, I forget).

The first band wasn't that great. The Bruisers were pretty cool though,
although a bit repititious for me. Wrecking Crew was MUCH better, they were
really hot! And the crowd totally loved 'em - serious stage diving taking
place!

For those into local thrash shows, definitely check out Wrecking Crew. Pretty
impressive! (And very nice guys, to boot....)

interested in checking out the local talent........

If anyone's interested in checking out a couple of great Boston bands,
    here are my votes:

Fortune - These guys are incredible. They're being advertised
as "Boston's Best Cover Band" - which is a
disappointment because their originals are incredible.
They do quite the variety...everything from
Queensryche to Kansas to Joe Walsh to Santana.

Their following has grown incredibly. They played at
the Rock Pile in Saugus Saturday night and when they made
the announcement that they were changing pace and playing
all originals for the night, the crowd actually
    		    cheered.

Definitely worth checking out. They're at the Kon Tiki
    		    in Salisbury this coming weekend.

Rated R - They're an all original band out of NH. Definitely
worth checking out. They'll be playing at Axis
    		    tomorrow night.

    Anyone else?

Dave Ickes (fellow DECcie and guitarist in my band) went to see these guys
last weekend at Ovations, and came away raving about them. Cool harmony
guitars, great song choice, an excellent vocalist, they seemed to have it all.
He especially mentioned a killer version of "Hotel California" they did.

I'll have to check them out sometime, for sure!

RE: Note #2...definately check Fortune out sometime soon. They are as
incredible as your friend said. I heard that Ovations rocked. It is
actually the 1st Fortune show that I have missed this summer. The lead
singer is a very good friend of mine and very talented as is the rest
of the band. If you've never been to the Kon Tiki check it out this
    weekend while Fortune is there.

RE: Rated R. Good friends of mine too. A fun band to see and to
    listen to.

A couple more local bands to check out would be Xplicit and Lord Bain.
Xplicit is another all original band and Lord Bain is an all original
band that has a lot of qualities of Queensryche. So if you like Geoff
Tates voice and you like the older stuff he did (The Warning, Rage for

There is a pretty hot band out of the Worcester/Clinton area called
OTTO. They play mostly original stuff but they do a great bunch of
cover tunes from Led Zepp , Tull , Judas Priest etc. The band has
two guitarists , a bass , a drummer and a lead singer that plays

I saw Rawhead Rex a few weeks ago ... not impressed at all.

For those of you who like death/thrash, they're probably good.
But I know hardly anything about that type of music, so it's
hard for me to say whether they're any good. They were heavy
and lyrically inaudible, so I guess that classifies them as a
    	really good thrash band.

Saw a band called "Dalhia's Dead" at the Cove this past Saturday
night: 3 females on guits/drums, one guy playing bass.

This band freakin' rocked!! Heavy-duty stuff (attention Dle).
They looked young, a bit nervous...but damn good for that joint
    in Worcester.

    They'll be out at Club-490 in Fitchburg (I guess that's where they're
from). I think this place is an underage club--> Oh joy! At any
rate, I'll be headin' up there this Saturday night if anyone's
    interested.

Yes, I'll be there (Club 490 in Fitchburg) for that death metal show
this Saturday night. As far as I know just Deceased (VA), Human
Remains (NY), and Desolate (MA) will be playing on that night:

Huh? That's weird. John (Desolate) sent me flyer
just Deceased, Desolate, and Human Remains. Also
there is a show at the Causeway on Sunday Dec. 3rd
    Reason Internal Bleeding, Infestation, Overcast,
    and Anomanes.
