36.0. "TNT" by TIGER::SLABOUNTY (A Momentary Lapse of Reason) Mon May 16 1988 06:03

I heard "Everyone's a Star" months ago on the "Headbangers'
Ball" on MTV, and loved it. I wanna know more!!

When did they make it big?

        Discography?

        Where do the come from?

Any more stuff on the way?

                                                      Shawn L.

The first album is THE KNIGHT'S OF THE NEW THUNDER.
it's not bad but not on par with TELL NO TALES
in one of the guitar mags.the guitar player is considered
one of the hottest new guitar players around if anyone buys
TELL NO listen to the cut called sapphire.but I warn you
it's way to short and leaves you begging for more.

                My own *OPINION*

I love TNT, but I would say their first album
(Knights of New Thunder) is superior to their
latest. Tell No Tales has a nicer mixing job,
but song quality is better on the first.

The guitarist is a hack. He reminds me of Vinnie
Vincent. He's got a real fast right hand, but
his left can't keep up with it.

Note: Those are my opinions and are in no way
                meant to piss anyone off.

Saw TNT with Loudness,&"Stryper",.Talk about a killer lineup,
I was in AWE after a triple shot like that.TNT is going to be
a killer band when they come into their own!

                Re: .5

Tell no Tales is their 2nd album. The first was
Knights of the New Thunder, which I think is
                superior to their 2nd album.

I forget exactly where they come from (somewhere
in Scandanavia ???) I believe if you look at

Well, I've been listening to Intuition for a while now, and this album
is great. Anyone who likes Def Lep, Yngwie, or Scorps should buy this
lp, as there are shades of all of that in here. Its euro-metal at its
best. The production is superb and the writing is really happening.
Rob Rothberg, I have no idea what you mean that Ronnie LeTekro has a
fast right hand but his left cant keep up?? This is highly
    recommended.

He couldn't on the last two albums. The guy has
a real quick pick, but most of the time he's just
moving up or down a fret whilst doing the
picking. He's hardly a "scale master".

it alot ! I was surprised when I heard the lead singers voice. . .
kinda' reminded me of the range that Rob Halford (JP) has. A couple
of the tunes that stick in my mind are:

    	Without Your Love
    	Break the Ice

TNT tonight at the Channel! A friend told me
that this wasn't actually the band TNT, it was
heavy metal night being promoted by T.N.T.
productions or something like that, but I just

TNT was simply the Yones! Tony's voice wailed.
                I didn't think I'd make it (they had 4 or 5 bands
on before them), but I managed to hang out until
TNT. They obviously had big time prerecorded
backup vocals, but you couldn't really tell
unless you looked very closely for a while. The
place was packed, and BTW, for those who don't
know, The Channel is now charging $2 for parking.
I was amazed that he actually help the note in
Desperate Life (I think that's the name of the
song). One of those 25 second long notes that's
way up in the atmosphere ... anyway, looks like
there wasn't anybody from the conference there
(at least *I* didn't see anyone). One of the
best live shows I've seen in a while.

                Cheers, Rob

I'm sure Buck will be really disappointed, as he commented to me
when he was here earlier in the week that he really wanted to see them.

He was telling me that Ronnie LeTekro (sp?) has a microtonal
(quartertone frets between where the normal ones would go) guitar which
he used on some of the stuff on Intuition. Did he play one of these at

I would have liked to have seen that one! :')

His guitar looked pretty normal to me, but I
didn't have any binoculars handy and basically
just listened while hanging out. Didn't pay too
much attention to what was going on. One neat
thing he did was his solo. He had two guitars up
on stands and played something on one which was
hooked up to a digital delay, something different
on the 2nd which was also on a delay and soloed
on the third. Nothing spectacular, but it was
                different.

These guys were good last year at the City Lights! Not much of a turn
out, too bad for the band, good for me! I was 10 feet away from the
stage and Ronnie is an amazing player. He didn't play his 1/4 stepper
guitar, though. Personally, I see a little use in a guitar that can
    give you 1/4 step...

I work with a guy that claims he played drums on their FIRST album.
Supposedly one *BEFORE* KONT, but I have not bee able to find it, so
it'll stay as a claim... If anyone out there knows anything about this
missing album, the drummer's name is Paul Hill. He did play drums
for Sticky Toys(or should I say played skins for ... ;-) ), and
supposedly toured US with them... Who knows?...

If you like a more METAL approach, but Tell No Tales...

If you like a slicker sounding production (ala Def Lep), with no
so much burning lead guitar, but with better somgs that have more
soul, buy Inmtuition. F*%#, I say just get em both!

re: Coop - three guitars

Nope, only one.

For you, Jeff, I'd recommend Knights of the New Thunder. It's a little bit
heavier then Tell No Tales, but not quite as melodic overall. There's also a
bit more guitar.

I was checking the relesase date on this one and it's from '84. I had no
idea it was that old. For some reason I thought this one came after Tell
No Tales.

Silly me...

36.53Listen to ALL those layers!COOKIE::G_HOUSEGive a littleMon Aug 06 1990 23:1017
I've been listening to "Intuition" quite a bit lately and I'm really
impressed with the sound and the layering. I can't believe what a HUGE
sound they got on this record.

All those vocal harmonies must be a real pain to deal with live (I
guess that's what they make samplers for). Speaking of that, my friend
ran sound for Pretty Boy Floyd when they played here in the springs a
few weeks ago and he said they had an Ensonic EPS backstage that a guy
played nothing but vocal samples from. I guess that's what everyone
thinks people want to hear, live music that sounds EXACTLY like a
    record.

    Back to TNT, I wish I could cop Ronni's tone, it's killer. I wouldn't
mind a little of his technique and style too, but I guess I shouldn't
    ask for too much...

36.54TCC::COOPERMIDI rack pukeTue Aug 07 1990 13:436
The tone doesn't impress me as much as his style. His tone sounds like
a distorted guitar, probably a Marshall or something similar...

BUT...That style is incredible !

I agree with gh...Ronnie's guitar sounds KILLER...I'd kill to have a
tone like his! His amps (Marshalls?) and guitars (Kramers) are both
highly modified, so I guess I'll probably never come close to his
sound. I also love the BIG sound they got on Intuition...great mix!
You can hear on a few tunes that Ronnie has a slight chorus effect on
his guitar...helps give it that edge IMHO.

Buck, who likes his sound more than his style.

PS - IMO, TNT tunez stand out over their musicianship.
36.56TCC::COOPERMIDI rack pukeTue Aug 07 1990 15:197
You said it yourself; The sound engineers generally have more to do
with ones sound than his gear...Even if his stuff is modified (which

the engineering glit...

I have to agree on the tone thing, yeah his technique is hot and I love
his style and all, but his tone is the tops. It's got lots of gain,
but it's still clear, not scratchy, buzzy, or crunchy like most amps
    get when you crank megagain.

I also like the chorus he seems to use a lot, not too overpowering like
    a what some people use.

I was glancing at the liner notes for Tell No Tales yesterday and
noticed that his amps are modified by a place called Sound Tech
somewhere in Finland. I wonder what they do to them?

Ronnie is the units!!! Like Rob was saying he did at the Channel
last year with two guitars on stands infinitly repeating while he
played his solo on the third. That was kool.
But a few years ago at Great Woods he came out with a wand and
tophat, played a rhythm on a guitar then walked around the stage while
it repeated, waving his wand.(GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER!!!) Then
to guitar #2 and new rhythm layering over the first. then guitar #3
another rhythm layered in. Then he would point his wand at one of the
guitars and it would stop. Then wave his wand and it would start
playing the rhythm again. Finally he picked up guitar #4 and did a ripping
solo. It was sooooooooo Kool!!!! He was kicking out the jams!!! Most
    intense player.

Buck and others, there is just something about KOTNT
that I don't like, the lyrics are poor compared to Int.
and the music is not as catchy or as smooth flowing..
The music itself on KOTNT is rough...

BUT THEN AGAIN!!! I listened and loved Int. BEFORE I
bought KOTNT and it doesn't compare...

Kinda like listening to Mechanical Ren. (Tesla) and then
	buying 5 Man acoustical jam...

Just so much less quality in songs and lyrics(not reall lyrics
	for Tesla, but for TNT)....

Well, I have given 'Realized Fantasy' a few listens and here is
	my opinion...

It is NO 'Int.' it is harder and rocks more...

Overall it is cool, but a different style... It is good for
	a different mood than 'Int.'

It is *MUCH* better that KOTNT, I never liked that one...

I am not sure how it compares to TNT yet.

Well, after listening to 'Realized Fantasy' for a couple days,
    I can give my review.

I agree with Seth. It's not *bad*, but it's definately a
disappointment after listening to 'Intuition' and 'Tell No Tales.'
They're style has changed a LOT. Production isn't as glossy as
'Int' or 'TNT'. This usually wouldn't bother me, but is seems
like something's missing. The backing vocals aren't as prevalent
and Ronnie doesn't seem to stand out as much.

I'm sure I'll listen to it here and there, but not like their
    others.

    ***** out of 10.

I listened to it about 4 times last night while I was boxing up some
speaker cabs. I'm not big TNT fan, but I enjoyed it a lot. On a scale
of 1-10, I'd give it a 7. Some of the songs were *very* predictable,
but others had some pretty neat bridges and breaks, and that always
ranks high in my book. I need to revisit "Intuition" this weekend -
been a long time since I aired that one out, maybe I can come up with a
    better comparison ...
