1246.0. "Server crash" by NETRIX::"plessas@mail.dec.com" (John Plessas) Sun Feb 16 1997 22:30

I have a customer who has 3 workstations of the following configuration:

    DEC 3000 900
    ZLX-M2
    Digital UNIX V4.0a
    Open3D V4.1
    CDE

They are having intermittent X server crashes since upgrade to V4.0a
and 4.1 of Open3D. The /var/dt/Xerrors file contains the following:

Fatal server error:

/var/adm/messages contains the following at times corresponding to the
server crashes as indicated by Xerrors:

Any ideas?

While not having seen this before, I'd start by recommending
you use Open3D v4.2. Also, what is running when this happens?
Any 3D programs, or is it all 2D things? How much memory does
the system have? What OS and Open3D versions were WORKING,
before the change to UNIX 4.0a? Has any application changed?
Was CDE in use before? Is it actually running multi-head?

As far as I know they are running V17 of Pro/ENGINEER

256M. I noticed that they were also using lazy swap. Could this happen
if they ran out of swap?

I think they were at V3.2A. I'm not sure of the Open3D version.

I think Pro/E went from V16 to V17. Is it normal fo an application to
able to kill the X server.

>> Was CDE in use before?

No

>> Is it actually running multi-head?

No. Does the "MHEAD_LGI flag is enabled" indicate that i is?
