Any other opinions about this amp? I'm seriously thinking about getting
one, instead of my Fender 'The Twin'. I'm not gigging anymore, so the
Twin is way too powerful for playing at home (my house rattles when I
play it! :). Also what is said in .0 sounds very promising! (are you a
    Fender dealer or what? ;-))...

Does this amp have the classic Fender clean tone as well? Could anyone
compare it with The Twin and tell about advantegies/disadvantegies?

The "Fender Clean" tone is awesome. Overdrive and high gain sounds are
better than what you'll get out of "The Twin". It's not as loud
obviously, but probably loud enough for most gigging and jamming
situations you'll run into these days.

Well now I got my new amp, and it's RED!! It was the only one
available in Scandinavia, and I couldn't imagine any difference
in sound ;-)...actually, it looks quite good, it's quite a
vintage design with old-style knobs and writing on the front
panel, plus a GREEN power lamp that lightens up the room when
you turn it on! And it's more comfortable to carry than The
	Twin...

I played it last night for about half an hour, then it slowly
started smelling :-(, and, unsure if something dangerous was
happening, I turned it off and gave it to the shop for testing
today. They explained something about new tube sockets, but I
never had that problem with The Twin - but perhaps it's more
recognizable with a class A amp. Anyway, I just wanted to make
sure everything was OK...what I heard of it, it was really nice
sounding, just what I imagined. It's like it captures more of
the typical sound from my Strat - still have to check the sound
of my LP though...The gain 2 control that adds compression is
REALLY effective. The difference in sound when switched to
class AB is not that distinct, at least not to my ears, but I
only tried it for a short moment...

Yeah, I forgot these come in colors in addition to the basic black.
I've also seen em with surf green tolex.

along the same line...

I say a Marshall JTM something or other Combo at the
Guitar Center in Danvers this weekend.. (It wasn't
on of the JTM60, or 30s, so I'm wondering if it
wasn't some reissue JTM45 or soemthing..)

anyhow,, the tolex wasn't black, brown, tan,,,,

it was purple ! ! Yoikes!....

funky,...

I think the purple line was the 30th anniversery series...

I've tried a number of Prosonics, and they all "smell" after 15 minutes
or so of operation. Apparently the amp stays biased well into class A
even in the "AB" positions. This causes the 6L6 output tubes to run
really hot. I've seen plates glowing cherry on some.

I suspect that this will lower tube life but it's worth it for the
sound. BTW, due to differences in bias, I've noted definite differences
in the tonality of different Prosonics. I think the hotter ones sound
    better.

OK, so that explains it. They also told in the shop that it just
smelled 'new'. But nevertheless, it fills the room with this slightly
'burned' smell, so I just thought no need to take any chances.

I have no time for further sound testing before this weekend, but when
I tried to compare the class A and the class AB sound, I noticed little
or no difference? If you say that class AB runs well into class A,
that's propably why. I'm not sound expert though, I'm not exactly sure
what to listen for, except for the overall sound quality..

Also, I'm excited to try it out with effects added in the loop, you'll
    hear more about this!

3235.16I love it!COPCLU::SANDGRENKeep it simpleTue Apr 01 1997 06:3422
I now had some time for further testing of this amp. My LP
screams on it! On 'The Twin', I had to roll back the treble
to prevent it sound too harsh - this I don't have to on the
Prosonic; I nail the sound of Clapton with John Mayall right
on the spot! But then I seem to have a hard time to get a
smooth distortion with my American Std. Strat - any tricks
here? Could be the pickups, perhaps I should look at getting
some Seymor Duncans??? But I don't wanna loose the classic
	Strat sound though..

One thing that this amp lacks, compared to 'The Twin', is the
varity in tone settings - one could boost the tone by pulling
the knob, on the Prosonic, it's just bass, mids, treble...I
guess it takes some time to get used to...

This amp, even in 30watt class A mode, is LOUD! Accidentially,
I had my head placed close to the speakers when I hit the gain
channel switch with a higher volume setting - OUCH!@#!!

Poul, re: Strat pickups...

Ever think about the lace sensors.. I know a few guys
that swear they're much happier with their strats after
loading red lace sensor in the bridge pickup..

(one guy did Blue neck, Silver-middle, red-back.)

he seems to like it, sounds pretty 'traditional' to
me, just not thin when he uses the bridge p.u.

    RE: Prosonic drivers

Any clue what Fender used for speakers?

    Thanks in advance,

    Re: .18

The Prosonic uses a pair of 10" custom Celestion speakers. You should
be able to get them as Fender replacement parts, or maybe get the ones you
    have reconed.

So what happened to the originals? Inquiring minds want to know...

3235.2010" drivers for Vibroverb/Vibrolux ampsWEDOIT::ABATELLIWed Apr 02 1997 16:1151
    RE: .19 (Vibroverb drivers)

What did I do to toast my speakers?

I don't know to be honest with you. I never play at a volume above
5 and bass/treble is set at 7... maybe 7.5 on the treble depending
on the room. I use a compressor, so it squashes the signal before the
amp sees it. Yesterday, my son and I were jamming in my basement and
I had the amp on 3, but the low notes sounded buzzy. OK... disconnect
the efx's and run the guitar straight into the amp... same buzz tone.
Hmmmmm... ok, check to make sure the drivers are tight on the baffle
plate. When I found them tight, I ended up taking them off. Carefully...
and I mean carefully, I pressed down lightly on each of the driver cones
and heard the dreaded "click" which to me always meant "a separated cone".
It sounded like kah-kah (just like before) after I reinstalled them. Now,
on the good note I called NEST in Stoneham, Mass. about replacement
drivers and the repair guy told me that he has new Fender replacement
drivers used in the Vibrolux (made by Eminence) in stock for...

    				 (drum roll please)

    				$27.00 each!!! Very cool!

I did some checking and found that Oxford replica replacement speakers
from Fender will cost $48.00 each. I didn't get a price on the Prosonic
custom Celestion 10", but have found Vintage Celestion 10" drivers to cost
~$70.00 each from alot of different places.

That's about it... I'm picking up the Eminence drivers tomorrow. Hey,
for $27.00 each, it's worth experimenting with. Personally, I really like
the tone of the original drivers (before the buzz) and I really don't want
to change the overall tone too much. Ofcourse having a more efficient
driver would be nice too... OY... so many choices!

I'll let you know what happens.

    ;^)

    	Rock on,
    		  Fred

P.S. I trust NEST on their repairs too. I had a custom EVM-12" 4 ohm driver
built for my Peavey MX combo and it sounds GREAT. The cost? $84.00!!
Although this was sometime ago, it was still a great price!
