3166.0. "Classical Guitars - Where to find/buy them?" by DSSDEV::DEFELICE () Mon Jan 22 1996 10:31

    I've done some modest looking around in the N.H. area and I found the
    selection of classical guitars very disappointing in most/all of the
    shops I have visited.

    Any recommendations as to shops in the New England area that are worth
    visiting in regards to classical guitar selections?

    Thanks Much,
    Bob D.

    	The people in note 2222 might know.

3166.2What are you looking for?CUSTOM::ALLBERYJimMon Jan 22 1996 11:3814
    Not that I can help you with recommendations in the New England area
    (I'm in Detroit), but what sort of classical are you looking for?

    	o Upper high-end? (Ramirez, or individual Luthier (e.g. Humphries,
          Fleta,...)

        o Mid-to-high (Hirade/Takamine, high-end Yamaha, Alvarez/Yairi,
    	  Ramirez student models, etc.)?

        o Beginner?

    You choice will likely impact any recommendations made.

    Seems like the reviews are mixed about "Music Emporium" in Cambridge,
    but that's where I bought mine. Mine is a fairly inexpensive model
    but when *I* was looking they had classical guitars ranging from $150
    to about $3200.

    That was about 4 years ago though...

    	db - who's contemplated throwing out the electrics and becoming
    	 	a purely classical/spanish guitarist.   Haven't picked
    		up an electric since my main band (db wilfred) broke up.
    		And while that band was going, the ONLY time I played
    		electric was at gigs. At home, I only played classical.

    I'm basically looking for med. to high-end instruments. But, not the
    real high end stuff that Guitar Salon International adverts for BIG
    money. I'd like to look at some offerings by Ramirez.

Try the Von Heune Workshop in Boston (or maybe Brookline). They specialize in
early instruments, but might have some used instruments. Also, I found some
used guitar shops around Northeastern U. about 8 years ago. They had some
pretty good guitars then.

    Just called Music Emporium. They have three (3) classicals in the
    store. Not sure if it's worth the trip.
