3123.0. "Goodbye." by CITYFS::KNIGHTP () Mon Oct 09 1995 20:24

    Well
I hate to add to the list of people leaving, but.....
I resigned yesterday. I will enter this note now cause I
don't know if I will be allowed to complete my last month
    or will be out earlier.
I am really sad to be leaving Digital, but it's direction
and mine are two different ways. Field Service or MCS as
it is now known, is a very different place to what it was
when I started with DEC 5 1/2 years ago.
I'm not leaving to go to another job, at the moment I am
going to have until the new year off, and then start looking
for work. I don't think I will stay in this industry, I really
would like to do something else.
Anyways enough of the work stuff.

*The* hardest thing to leave behind is all the people I have
met and became friends with. That includes all the noters.
I have enjoyed so much being part of this and other (commusic,
    home studio) notes conferences.
I have grown so much as a musician since being with
Digital that it is unbelievable. When I started here, I owned a
porta one, TR505 and a Ibanez RoadstarII, and had never worked
    professionally.
Now I have my own 8 track studio, am doing demos for others
have done hundreds of professional gigs, grown as a player, singer
composer arranger producer engineer and artist.

All of this I attribute to NOTES. This forum has been the
most important learning experience of my life. It would be fair to
say that I would have left a couple of years ago if notes had gone
away as was rumoured at the time.

Although I have never seen any of your faces, or heard your voices
It feels as I know some of you as well as I have ever known any friend.
I will truly miss, probably forever, my morning ritual of logging in
to read whats going on, who db is fighting with 8^) and who
is better Steve Vai or Joe Satriani..8^).

I hope all of you find happiness, and joy in what it is you do.
May you all grow as musicians and people. May you all enjoy the
wonder that is *music* for a very long time.

If any of you guys ever come to Australia,or want to correspond
    My address is

    	Peter Knight
    	49 Albany Crescent
    	Aspendale Melbourne Victoria
    	Australia 3195

At this stage I will be here until 9 Nov. I will check in until then
unless I get shown the door earlier.

    Peace

Yes, best of luck! Like you, if I left I would probably not
stay in this industry. Fyi, this month's GP has several
articles about jobs in the music industry - from local gigs,
studio session work, to guitar/amp repair. I believe there
are books that are recommended as well.

For me... I'd be the guy playing by the pool at the hotel
at some resort... tee it up every morning, dive in the pool
before "work", and never buy a pair of long pants for the
    	rest of my friggin' life!!

Peter - take the opportunity to do what you want to do.

3123.9Not "Goodbye"... more like "See Ya Later"SCAMP::PAGETue Dec 26 1995 12:1535

I didn't think this conference needed yet another "Goodbye"
topic, and since I'm not sure this really *is* "Goodbye", I'm re-using
    this thread...

I work for Digital Learning Services (DLS), which is part of MCS.
For those of you who read Livewire or the HUMANE::DIGITAL conference,
you've probably heard that DLS has been sold... and where DLS goes, I
    go...

We've been bought as a new venture and renamed Global Knowledge
Network. As of now, I am officially a GKN employee, although my
paychecks will probably say Digital on them for a couple more weeks.
Though I view this change with the concern any rational person would
have, I believe it's a change for the best... Digital has not viewed
Educational Services with the respect it deserves, and now we have the
opportunity, the freedom, and thanks to the investors, the $$ to treat
Training as a core competancy. I also hope it will present me with new
opportunities and advancement that's been sorely lacking 'round here.

I hesitate to say where this will take me-- for the forseeable
future, I'll still be sitting at MKO, with a VMS account, Digital
E-mail address & access to the Digital network. So I guess it's not
"goodbye" yet... I'll still be around for a while. GKN and Digital will
be very closely connected, as we will continue to be the exclusive
provider of Digital Customer Training, so for all I know I may be
around 'til retirement... but then again, you know how quickly they can
    change their minds...

Anyway, that's the scoop... I expect to be talking to you all
again, but if I suddenly disappear, at least you'll know why...

    	Brad

    Brad,
I'd tell you "good luck", but you won't need it. You'll be fine.

    	See ya later dude!

   My turn.

After 17 years of DEC and Digital, I'm headed off to greener pastures.
My last day here is 9/20/96.

Have fun, succumb to GTS when necessary, and always strive to improve.

Sam, take care. I've always enjoyed your notes, and am glad that we
had the chance to meet while you were here in ZKO!

It's very wierd to read the goodbye notes. Many times I'll tell my
wife that a good friend of mine from Notes has left the company, and
she'll remark "Good friend? You've never even met the person."

    Oh yes I have.
