| Your note prompted me to pull out my "Striking it Rich" disk (Dan Hicks
and his Hot Licks ca. 1971) and have a listen. The song is only 39 seconds
long, but he sure packs some cool changes into that short amount of time.
To me it sounds like stright 4/4 timing. The best I can tell the rhythm
is comping on the following chords: | = 1 beat.
F#min B7 E A
| | | | ||||
A G F#9 F9 A
|||| |||| | | | | ||||
A A7 B7 Bb7 A
|||| |||| || || ||||
D A D A
|||| |||| |||| ||||
A G F#9 F9 A

The lead is shared between a guitar and mandolin. I won't attempt
the melody line. It's typical of Dan Hicks and his understated Jazz
style. After all these years, I still love this stuff. Dan Hick's
swings, and his vocals are untouchable. In the past, I've covered
"Cowboy's Dream #19", "Payday Blues", and "You've got to believe".
All great tunes and they went over surprisingly well considering
Dan Hicks was never widely known.

| Mark,
Much thanks. I'm not really capable in either swing or jazz, but this
is one cookin' tune, and we're going to do it in a trio of fiddle,
guitar, and bass. Wish me luck...
