2941.0. "Goodbye, everyone!!" by NEST::CURRY () Mon Jun 13 1994 14:55

I, like many others, received word that this will be my last day with
DEC. It has been said before, but I have to say it again; It has been
a genuine priveledge to have been a part of this notes conference and
to have had the chance to get to know a good portion of you all. I hope
for only the best for all of you...

    God Bless!

2941.6ASO is toastCALAIS::BOTTOM_DAVIDWe now return you to the terror of contemporary employmentWed Mar 15 1995 09:3821
Well folks it's final now. ASO boots out of Digital April 1st. We've been sold
(down the river IMHO) to SCI. SCI is a contract manufacturing company based out
of Huntsville Alabama. They are very different from Digital. major loss of
benefits, project layoffs of 10-20% and "significant pay cuts" are in my future.
Since SCI is IBM mainframe based (they have 1 mainframe in Huntsville that
supports their 19 plants worldwide) I expect to be in that 10-20% along with my
entire department.

As Larry Walker said, (VP Networks and communications) "It'll be great for
everyone, you'll see)

(much sarcasm intended)

It's been great being here for 11 years. In that time I've seen notes grow
in use from a few notesfiles (with enotes) to a basic ingrediant of Digital's
Culture. I've learned from all of you, I've changed the way I play and the
gear I play on, with much of that change directly related to the information
supplied in this and other music related notesfiles. I wish the best to all,
keep jammin! May Digital become profitable and you grow with it.

Dave, you've been in here as long as I can remember. Your presence and
contributions will be sorely missed. I'll never forget seeing your
band at the DECjams. Take care.

Jeez, this is like watching an avalanche engulf a small village and
seeing each victim be buried... with some of them being friends and
acquaintances. Fortunately, though, we're only talking about a job
change, not the end of a life.

David, I'm sorry this change is involuntary for you. My only
suggestion for minimizing the postpartum depression is to establish an
internet account and stay in touch with the people you like. Many of
the "cool" Notes conferences are showing a lot less activity these
    days, anyway.

Nevertheless, the whole thing stinks. Good luck out there!

Hate to see another long time noter go. Even though guitar notes
lives, the hey day is in the past. Who can forget the GTS attacks
and fire-sales (one comes to mind) that we've had in the past.
On top of that how many MIDI rack-pukes are left, me and Coop?
Anyhow, leave an e-mail address if and when you can so we know
    what's going on!
      Best of luck to ya!

I can only echo the sentiments of my fellow noters here Dave...
While we'd discussed the possibility of this happening off-line,
I still hate to see it in print.

Do take Mister Stewarts advice and hook up with an AOL, or COMPUSERVE
account or something - We still have lots of business to attend too.
    :-)

Man, have we swapped a few hundred toize over the years or WHAT?!?

Oh, and per db's comment, don't trust _anything_ a VP says,
and trust it less if they're even higher in the corporate
food chain... this applies to all companies, not just Digital.

I'll be in touch when I get an internet service. I have an opportunity to do
some VMS consulting part time for a guy who manages a local SLIP server, he
offered me a free account once we get working together. Too bad everywhere in
the world is long distance from my house :-)

Guys I'm touched, I've been here since the very early days, back around note
100 or so...it's been a long strange trip.

yes I brought LA East down to two of the Jams in Worchester...I forget which
ones though...

Well today things are looking up for me, not with DEC and not with SCI but
I have a embryotic consulting gig started and it looks like we're about to
begin negotiations with a government agency for 7 X 24 system support on
several VAXclusters, PC lans etc. As well as a score with a State Senator for
some work and Free legal support getting incorporated!

To the tune of Brown Sugar:

Huntsville slaver bound for central Maine
Sold in the marketplace down Maynard way
Scarred old Palmer knows he's doin all right
Hear him cut the headcount just about midnight

Bob Palmer, how come you cut so good?
Bob Palmer, just like wall street said you should

Drums beatin cold as the blood runs out
Workers in the house wonder where it's gonna stop
I'm no schoolboy but I know what I like
Hear 'em cut the bennies, hold on to the pay hikes

Bob Palmer, how come you cut so good?
Bob Palmer, just like wall street said you should

Lord I bet your momma is an ex-vp
And all her assets are in the S & P
I'm no schoolboy but I know what I like
Give yourself some options and another pay hike

Bob Palmer, how come you cut so good?
Bob Palmer, just like wall street said you should
Bob Palmer, how come you cut so good?
Bob Palmer, no one but a VP is good
