2877.0. "Parker Guitars" by MSE1::MULLER () Mon Jan 17 1994 14:54

For those of you in the Boston area who don't have their GTS under
control, DO NOT go to Wurlitzers' and try the Parker Guitars they
now have in stock!

The Mass. Ave. store had both a white and a black in stock - neither
had the trem... Both were equipped with dual humbuckers and a piezo
pickup in the bridge. Electronics by Fishman with switchable mono/
stereo output which will allow you to run the piezo output to a
separate amp from the humbuckers.

Styling is superb, but there are a few too many controls for my taste:

	Master Volume
	Volume for the two humbuckers
	Tone for the two humbuckers
	3-way switch:
		neck humbucker
the two inside coils from both humbuckers
		bridge humbucker
Stacked volume/tone control for the piezo pickup
	3-way switch:
		humbuckers only
		both humbuckers and piezo
		piezo only

Price??? a mere $1599!

read somewhere recently, Fly basses due are to ship in February.
They're probably introducing them at Winter NAMM (going on right
    now I think).

I was in Wurlitzers over the weekend and happened to notice that they
    had one of these "The Fly" six strings on display. They named it right;
it's as ugly as the bug it's named after!! Didn't dare to play it for
    fear of having nightmares......

    Well, I made a big boo-boo...

I played a "Fly" at ProJo.. I mean ProSound the other day.

This is a MAJOR axe!! If I had some extra cash I didn't want to
spend on my studio, I OWN one right now. This things electronics
are amazing - closest LesPaul sound I've ever heard (from other than
a Les Paul), and the same goes for strat souns. Damn. What a smokin'
    guit!

My only dislike about it was that I felt like I've break it (fat
chance, but thats what it FELT like). I want one. Buck, trust me,
    you want one too.

Keep your eyes open; I've seen several of these pop up on the used
    market already.

New Toy Syndrome, me thinks. The gotta-be-the-first-on-my-block
kinda folks with the $$$ must be snapping some of these up, then
move on when the novelty wears off.

I'm *STILL* waiting to see a bass!!!

Caught a segment on these Guits on the "Beyond 2000" show
on the Discovery Channel. Seems like some interesting
craftsmanship here. They were saying it's as light as a
feather...I'd like to check 'em out.

Big article about Parker, Fishman, the deal with Korg, and the
major buzz problems with the Fly in yesterday's Boston Globe.

The buzz almost killed the company since more than 30% of the
second production run buzzed uncontrollably. After taking a saw
to one and cutting of one part at a time, they discovered the
problem was in the redwood neck. He described redwood as
"psychotic wood, totally unpredictable, working perfectly in
some guitars and buzzing in others. The neck was immediately
switched to basswood, test lines were run, and the problem
    	didn't return."

So, in those WantAds, be careful.

Also, a less expensive one will be coming out retailing for
    	about $1350.

    	Tom
