2852.0. "Gary Hoey" by STORK::CURRY () Tue Nov 09 1993 13:03

Has anyone heard the new release from Gary Hoey? Is it worth picking
up, or is this guy just another Satriani "wannabe"?

I heard his cover of Hocus Pocus on the radio. It was very sloppy!!!
This guy sounds like some dweeb you'd see in a guitar shop with the amp
too loud trying to show off his fastest riffs.

Yeah, it's not his best cut, but I like the album it's got alot of balls...
if you like satch, you'll like his guy, it's tastier than alot of the speed
metal stuff/junk being released today.

Just one dudes vote...

Is this guy one of the guitarists who auditioned for Ozzy, but lost the
vote to Zak Wylde? I remember hearing something about this and thought
    I'd get clarification.......

Heard it..purty good. He's been around for quite some time. He
used to play in a local band (Lowell MA area) called Crystal T back in
the late seventies. They were really into Foghat at the time.

    	er ZAK WYLDE...wotta name!!

In my Rocktron catalogs it mentions Gary Hoey as an endorser. His name
at that time was associated with the band Heavy Bones. I've never heard
    anything from them.

My son just got the CD for a belated B-day present.

Hard time finding this disc by the way..

I like the guy,., Reminds me of a bit of Gary More
with some Beck sprinkled in...

Hocus Pocus... - A lot of fun... I like the remake,,
Flanger from hell....

Some great cuts on the disc though.... I've got in
work, in fact, the h-phones are cranking Hoey right
now...

I'd give it a solid 6, strech it to a 7 if the
mood catches me right...

His version of the "Peanuts" theme is making the rounds on the airwaves
now. Is this album all covers?

    thanks,

The "Peanuts" theme might be on a new album, because I don't
remember it being on "Animal Instinct".

No it's a cover of the old War tune.
