Conference napalm::guitar

    I thought they were made in Ireland.... They are similiar to PRS,but
    nicer..... and pricey too..... What specifics do you want on them....

I hear they have some models with maple necks glued into maple bodies with
maple leaf inlays on the finger board.  Many PRS fans like the maple necks
but not the bolt-on necks that come with them.  The Eggle seems like a 
reasonble way to get the maple neck.

I've heard these guitars have sold well in Europe and are soon to come
into the U.S.  However, Manny's have one instrument and says they are 
getting out of the business because they didn't sell.  What is the story?

How do they compare to a PRS and what is the pickup configuration?

    Apparently, they score very highly on the style front. The May edition
    of the UK magazine "The Guitar Magazine" is running a competition for
    designing "a modern electric guitar that could be feasibly produced and
    sold in the UK for between 600 and 800 pounds (about $920 to $1230)",
    and Patrick Eggle have agreed to make the winner's guitar, discuss the
    design with him/her, etc.
    
    I don't know much about them as guitars, but I do have details of
    approximate UK prices for three of the lines:
    
    * P.E. New York     -- 500 quid
    * P.E. Berlin       -- 900  quid
    * P.E. Los Angeles  -- 600 - 1000 quid

              Always love Fender Strats and ever since, I got into Jimmy
    Hendrix & Stevie Ray Vaughn, I've always felt that there was absolute-
    ly nothing else and still feel pretty much that this is true!
              Anyhow, I just happend to walk into this music store, in
    Southbridge, MA., called Gordon's music and saw this vision of loveli-
    ness, not on the rack, but in a special glass case!
              Asked the guy if I could try it out!
              Plugged it into a small amp; checked for intonation, up &
    down the neck; beautiful; turned up the pre-amp; beautiful, and guess
    it was jusst LOVE at first sight?
              Ran through Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Riviera Paradise" to see
    what kind of Jazzy tones I could get........GREAT!
              Ran through "Still Got The Blues" to check for sustain and
    once again........BEAUTIFUL!
              Asked the guy, "How much?" and he says, "lists for $2,200.00
    and we're selling it for $1,400.00"
              Wow! that's alot of bread but then what price for love?
              Since I've learned NOT to trust anyone I told the guy that I
    would be making a few phone calls and would get back to him the same
    day!
              Called "Manny's Music" store in N.Y. City and they told me
    that they considered it to be a fine hand crafted instrument and they
    were selling it for $1,400.00"
              Called "Mr. C's" music store which I believe is now in North-
    boro shopping Plaza; told him the deal I was offered; he told me that
    he'd sell me a brand new Stevie Ray Vaughn Strat + hard shell case for
    $900.00 and that's a good deal!
              Had to make a tough decision, but found that the guy from Mr.
    C's music store tried to lie to me about something and decided to go 
    with the "Patrick Eggle".
              This guitar is a little on the bright side for me but I've
    readjuted my guitar effects processor to compensate!
              I use an "A.R.T.", SGX-2000 with the X-15 Ultrafoot, hooked up
    to one, 100 Watt, Ampeg V5, amp that has two 12" Celestions and run that
    in STEREO, approx. 30 feet apart, with another 100 Watt amp, but this
    one is an OLD Marshall half stack with 4, 12" Celestions.
              Just had 4, new biased tubes; biased to the amp, put into the
    Ampeg V5, and this should be another ego booster!
              The craftsmen ONLY as good as his tools!
              Feel that if I really wanted to I could always trade even for
    a NEW Stevie Ray Vaughn Strat?
              A boy's gotta have his toys, whether my wife likes the idea
    or not?   That's ANOTHER whole notesfile in of itself but I don't wanna
    be responsible for anyone's divorce!

    Yo Norman, have you ever tried a Paul Reed Smith?  From what I'd seen,
    I got the impression that the Patrick Eggles were similar (i.e., a
    British take on a PRS).  Any comment?

There was a little titbit in a Guitar magazine last month that said
that Eggle and Levinson (Blade) were merging their operations.

    You'll probably see a lot of comparisons of PRS and Patrick Eggle,
    because of Patrick's "Berlin" range. This was the first design of
    guitar that Eggle put into production, and it looks A LOT like a PRS.
    In fact, Eggle had to change the headstock, and make the shape of the
    guitar a little less like a PRS, because Smith threatened him with
    legal action...
    
    Fortunately, the boys have been able to play nicely together, and Eggle
    has carved himself a niche. Consequently, he's expanded the range now,
    with the New Yorker and LA Pro range (the LA range is sorta
    Strat-shaped).
    
    The Eggles I've played have been very nice guitars. Apart from the
    shape of the Berlin, they're not a British take on a PRS. Specifically,
    they don't have the odd electronics of a PRS (neither the rotary pickup
    selector, nor the ability to get humbucking/single coil combinations).
    But, like PRSs, they're manufactured with good attention to detail, and
    they command a high price!
