Unsubsantiated rumor though is that they will be reforming under a
different name. Same lineup. I'll post if I get confirmation.

Realizing its a tangent, I'd like to comment that I was hopeful
that the Fuegos could/would put out some good new music. I've
had the "Boston Mass" album for years on both vinyl and CD; never
seem to tire of it. I did, however, want to warn anybody that
runs across another Fuegos CD (perhaps their last) "Smokin' in
the Fields"......this release sucks bigtime!! I found a copy in
a cutout bin for a mere $3.67, the price of a beer. Upon listening
to it, I shoulda got the beer. The credits include Magic Dick on
a few cuts along with some other Boston illuminaries to no
avail...recycled riffs and poor songwriting will shine through
every time. I think I'm gonna recycle the jewel box and use the
disc itself as a .22 target....it has no other redeeming features.

PS - Am much interested in this Shemp Howard bass method. Mel Bay
is boring and I'm told that I resemble both Curley and Larry
    simultaneously....could be a natural. :-)

Jeez, I thought "Smokin' in the Fields" was a great album! Oh well, to each
his own....

I guess that's why personal opinion/taste stuff is better left
to the MUSIC conference. Believe me, I *wanted* to like that
album as much as I did the earlier stuff.....but it just sounded
flat. Question: do you have "Boston Mass"? If not, *thats* the
Fuegos I know and love :-).

Oh yeah, I have the whole catalog, been a fan of theirs since the days at
the Rat.... 'Smoking in the Fields' is very different from 'Boston, MA'
and 'Longest Day', but I still liked it a lot.....

    Alan,

Since you have the whole catalog, could/would you post a list
of what there is available on either vinyl or CD? (unless of
course its just the three you mentioned in your last reply).
For example, I'd never heard (of) Longest Day, but I'd sure
    give it a chance.

I always felt that the Del Fuegos helped define the word "tight"
as it applies to bands. I used to hear some live stuff every
now and again on 'BCN and of course the stuff from the Boston Mass
album that got airplay...which led me to buy the album at the
time. Such a raw sound and delivered with a real punch; real bar
band stuff. I guess that that was my biggest disappointment with
the record that started this whole tangent.....I felt that they'd
    lost that edge.

(Greg or Coop, maybe we can move this discussion to another note?)

I'm gonna have to re-check these facts this weekend, but if I remember
correctly, 'The Longest Day' was their first album and then 'Boston, MA'
was their second. These two are very similar, and if you liked 'Boston, MA'
you should like the other. I sorta remember a third album that I didn't
like that much, but can't recall the title.

Then the band broke up, re-formed with a different lineup, and several years
later released 'Smoking In The Fields', would be their fourth album. That's
why it's so different from the first two - one of the Zanes' brothers (the
drummer) had left the band, and I think there was a different guitarist also.

Oh yeah - the name of their third album was 'Stand Up'.

Since there seemed to be a lot of interest, I moved this side
discussion from the Duke Levine note to it's own topic.

In addition to the LPs already mentioned, there was at least one indie
45 recorded when the band was still a trio.

Thanks to the previous few for the information...and to the humble
mods for moving the tangent. I need to get a new Noteworthy
catalog soon; perhaps they would have some of earlier albums on
CD. Wonder how lost the lost 45 really is?
