2272.0. "Old Gibson Acoustic" by ATODLO::ISELI_D () Wed Jul 31 1991 13:55

    I need some advice/assistance.
I have a 1973(?) Gibson acoustic guitar that I bought used in '75 for
about $250 with a hard shell case. I took immaculate care of it, and
even played it for a few years.
But for the last 10 years, I haven't touched it. I have kept it strung
and in the case. It is in perfect condition, no repairs or scratches.

Now a friend wants to buy the guitar. I have no idea what it's worth.
Is it still ok, since it's been sitting for so long. The strings are
gone but it still sounds good.

I don't know the model, is there someplace to look?

Look in Tom Wheeler's American Guitars.

It won't tell you a value but you may see a picture of it.

Mandolin Bros on Staten Island NY may give you a valuation.

Look through the soundhole for a sticker affixed to the inside. Most
Gibsons have them, this'll tell you waht model it is and from that
you can get an estimate of what it might be worth.

I did check the guitar last night and this is what I found:

    		Model: LGO	Serial number: 876498

Also, I found my old receipt and I actually paid $200 for the
    guitar in '75.

An LG-0 is a "student" model, the bottom of the Gibson line. I have no
idea how much these appreciate (if at all) and whether a mid-70s model
is very desirable. *Personally* I would pay about $200-250 for it.

...geeze that brings back memories....the first guitar I ever owned..
my folk bought it for me back in '68 when I first startered
taking lessons...I think they paid about $125 for it back then...
traded it for some epiphone thing back in '74-75...I could
kick myself now for doing that....I wish could find that guitar..
I'd buy it back in a second....maybe that one is mine ????
did you buy it new or uesd ???

I've got a 71 Gibson F-25 acoustic that I bought new in 71 for about
$275. It's kind of a funny guitar in the respect that it has a very
wide neck and a relatively small body. Something more like you'd find
in a classical guitar. This however uses steel strings. It has a solid
top. I can't really tell if its spruce or cedar. Its got a distinct
yellow color to it. Mahogany sides and neck. It has a white vinyl
two piece pick guard on both sides of the sound hole. White (now
    yellow) binding.

Anyone out there know any history or details about this F-25?? I
don't think it was a very popular model.

I had a Gibson B-25 back in the 74'-75' time frame.
Sound similar to yours in that the body on it was pretty
small. Mine had a sunburst finish and Kluson tunners similar
to the ES-125s. This was a low end acoustic in the Gibson line.
I bought mine for $175 and sold it in 1980 for $275. Made a
    	good little travel giutar.

Nope! this is a GEN-U-INE F25. I saw it listed in the index of the
two volume Gibson "catalog". Unfortunately it is shown in Volume II
and I only had volume I at the time. Does anyone out there have
Volume II and could look up the F25 entry and see what it says??

    thanks,

The F-25 is pretty much as described earlier--a steel-string
folk guitar styled like a flamenco guitar, with a 14.25" wide
body, solid headstock and two tap plates. The top is spruce.
These are probably rare, but I don't think there is much of a
market for them. If I can come up with a value, I'll post it.

LG-0's go for about 2 bills. A really nice B-25 from the '60's can get
    about $400.

really!! I have a B25N from back around mid-sixties that looks
absolutely brand new (I take good care of my Customs).
