2263.0. "Doors Bass player???" by GIDDAY::KNIGHTP (do it in dubly) Tue Jul 16 1991 03:12

Can't find anything related so Mr Moderator feel free to move this.

I went to see the DOORS movie and noticed for the first time
that they didn't have a BASS player. But the keyboard player
had a second keyboard on top of another which he played with his
left hand. Is that the bass or did they draft someone in for
recording sessions and go live without a bass????
P.S. I was a weird film good but weird.

When that movie came out, MTV did a special with interviews of the
remaining members. No bass player ... all left hand keyboards like you
mentioned. Worked for them I guess ....

2263.2Rhodes Piano BassRGB::ROSTMy Baby Bass is my babyTue Jul 16 1991 11:3014
Ray Manzarek used a Rhodes Piano Bass. This was a 37 key unit that
looked like a Fender Rhodes piano that had been sawed in half. The
voicing was different than the regular 73-key piano, so as to be more
    bass-like.

Manzarek used it on the first album as well live. Doug Lubahn, who was
in the bands Clear Light and Dreams, played bass on all other
Morrison-era Doors studio sessions with two exceptions. Guitarist
Lonnie Mack played the bass on "Roadhouse Blues" and Elvis Presley's
bass man Jerry Scheff played on the "LA Woman" album. I'm not sure if
a bassist was used on the two post-Morrison albums, as I've never owned
    them.

I think Harvey was one of (three?) bassists listed on the Soft Parade
album. Doug Lubahn was another, and I thought there was a third, also.
