2250.0. "Seeking fingerstyle wedding tunes" by ESIS::JNELSON (Jon D. Nelson | 291-8614 | DLB12-2/D4) Wed Jun 26 1991 16:01

    I'm playing for a friend's wedding in August, and weddings aren't my
    regular gig. So, I'm looking for suggestions for appropriate music,
    preferably 'simple' fingerstyle or classical tunes. Would also
    appreciate recordings/sheet music if possible, one particular recording
    I'm looking for is "In Christ there is no east or west" by John Fahey.

    BTW, I haven't been in this file in years, it's sorely missed. Please
    send suggestions to SKYLYT::JNELSON.

    Thanks
    Jon

Try the wedding song, written by Paul Stookie (sp?), from Peter, Paul and Mary
days. It's really nice and you can just pick a simple Travis style as a
background to someone who is singing it.

There's at least one wedding topic in COOKIE::FOLK_MUSIC, which includes the
lyrics to the Wedding Song.

    Another popular song for wedding ceremonies is "Longer" by Dan
    Fogelberg. I'm sure you've heard this song, as it got lot's of
    airplay when it was first released.

    Battle hym of love (bluegrass).
     Has a lot of the wedding vows right in the lyrics.

I was talking to a record store owner, who claims that the "Wedding Song of
the Year" is "Wind Beneath My Wings"

    Classical pieces:

    "Jesu, Joy" by J.S. Bach - play up to the key change and repeat
    twice, unless you're *real* confident ;-)

    "Prelude 1" by Bach, commonly known as Ava Maria, from the Cello
    Suite in C. Listen to Parkening play this - real beautiful, but
    technically difficult. Again, you can adapt it.
