2246.0. "THE RODEO SONG(UNCENSORED)" by BRADOR::DAVY () Tue Jun 25 1991 13:33

    Hi There,

I'm A DEC Employee in Canada and another fellow I work with
started a non-profit, hobby band about two years ago. Currently,
our little emsemble is going strong and seeking out new material
    to play.

All the members of our band which now totals six people are keen
to play "The Rodeo Song". Most of us know bits and pieces of the
lyrics but non of us know who the writer or performing artist.

Could someone please write down the lyrics, chords and band name
who performs the song? We want to try it because when we have
played in public, inevitably someone asks us to do it.

    Any input would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance for your help.........

We get requests for this frequently also. We've never played it
because we felt that the manager of the club might not like it
(and we like to be invited back). Ask the club manager (or who
ever it was that hired you) before to play it; it may not be ok.

I used to have to play this once in a while in C&W clubs. Once at a
wedding it was requested by the bride's grandmother!!!

Chords are just 1-4-5 in whatever key you choose to play it in.
There's only two verses, I think, and of course the awesome chorus.

I think I still have a tape of it lying around somewhere. No idea who
recorded it but I think it was actually a rock band.

I never heard of this song, but apparently it's infamous. Can somewhat
give me a discreet hint as to what the song is about and why one has to
    be careful where it's played?

The Rodeo Song is a parody of a C&W song with lots of profanity in it.
It even cops a line from the old song "Barnacle Bill the Sailor", for
pete's sake. It's low brow humor and funny the first time I guess.
Buck, if you're really curious, City Hall Music in Marlboro probably
still sells the 45...for sale to adults only, etc.

I have about 90% of the lyrics if someone is desperate....

Sounds like this "Rodeo Song" is along the same lines as the song
"Life Sucks, then you Die". I believe this was done by the Fools.
It was a big hit about 3-4 years ago.

I have the song on record at home. I've DJ'ed in many places and have
played it many times with little ramifications (though never in church
    basements).

    	The band is called Showdown.

They are from Alberta, Canada (I think).

The censored lyrics are as follows (some of the missing words are
obvious or easy to figure out; I will include hints):

    'The Rodeo Song'

    Well, it's 40 below and I don't give a f**k
Got a heater in my truck
And I'm off to the rodeo

    Well, it's a-la-man left and a-la-man right
Come on you f**kin' dummy get the right step right
Get off the stage you g*d*mn goof, you know
You p*ss me off, f**kin' jerk
    You get on my nerves

Well, here comes Johnny with his p**ker in his hand
He's a one ball man, and he's off to the rodeo

    Well, it's a-la-man left (etc.)

    (guitar solo)

    Well, it's 40 below and I don't have a truck
    And I don't give a f**k, 'cause I'm off to the rodeo

    Well, it's a-la-man left (etc.)

    	(and that's all folks!)

2246.18oops, missed somethingTROA02::CONNOLLYFri Jul 05 1991 16:2820
    re. -1

You have to repeat the part about 'Johnny' and the 'a-la-man' part one
more time also after the modified reprise of the part about the truck.

    i.e.

    truck
    a-la-man
    johnny
    a-la-man
    (solo)
    truck 2
    a-la-man
    johnny
    a-la-man
    (ending)

    Sorry for any confusion.
