2218.0. "Blues Standard help ?" by SALEM::TAYLOR_J () Thu May 30 1991 14:04

Last night I saw a slide blues song ( Stormy Monday ) done
on tv ( doogie Houser ). It was a really cool song, apparently
played in an open tuning ( open d ?? )

Does anyone know either/or the words and music to this song ?

I'd really appreciate if anyone could either post it or send
me mail. The blues will never die

there's a few different variations, but the one I've always liked was the
Alman Brothers version, (can be found on 'Live at the Filmore'..) Nicely
done...

The chord changes are quite numerous, but once you find the patter
it simply repeats itself.

If you don't get any other bites, I can give it a shot, let me know
via Mail...

Well they call it Stormy Monday but Tuesday's just as bad.
    I say they call it " " " " " " "
Wednesday's "woist" and Thursday's oh so sad.

Well the eagle flies on Friday - Saturday I go out to play!
    Yes, " " " " " " " " " " "
Sunday morning I fall on my knees and pray.

Lou Rawls has a great version of this on an old album, 'Lou Rawls -
    Live'.

It's a Bluesman tune, man. So, it *is* a Scarymon tune!
    	(and a blair-unit tune)

yep, there's about as many turnarounds for Stormy Monday blues as
there are dudes and dudettes who play it! I have this version by Bobby
Blue something or other.. Bland?? He does it straight I IV V, which,
of course, I love cause it's the onliest chords I know. [;^)

Scarymon unit + Blair unit = Blues Units...

So I'm to understand that "stormy turnarounds" mean the same thing
and Sub-V dom resolutions? Whada concept!

Actually Buck, if my memory serves me correctly,
you JAMMED Stormy Monday with me at my wedding. You were either smiling
cuz you were having a good time playing it, or you were laughing at my
lead (which was scary as hell cuz I was drunker than a f*rt). I've got it
VIDEO tape ! Film At 11!

jc (Who sez: Stormy Monday is a Coopster-tune too)

Stormy Monday was also done by Lee Michaels, in the early '70s.
No guitars, though, just Lee on the Hammond Organ and "Frosty"
    on the drums.

Well I guess I'll add one more change (how we play it):

    G7 C9 G7 Ab7 G7
    C9 ----------G7 Am7 Bm7 Bbm7 Am7 Abmaj7 G7 C9 G7 D9

I don't know how the Abmaj7 works (I'll have to try it out) but try
using a Bb13 in place of the Bbm7 in the turn-around.
