2172.0. "Old swell pedal needs fixing..." by WELCLU::GREENB (Sex party! Sex party!!) Tue Apr 23 1991 09:45

I have an old Schaller swell pedal that isn't working properly. It's OK
at full frontal top volume, but won't back off all the way to total
silence i.e there's always something there, although it is quite quiet
    on the fully off position.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

    Cheers,

    Bob

The older pedals usually worked by a mechanical linkage from
the pedal to a pot(entiometer). When you take it apart, you'll
probably find a collar of some kind fixed to the shaft of the
pot. The pot has distinct stops, like any volume control, so
what you do is loosen the collar, turn the pot to the OFF end
of it's rotation and then re-tighten the collar with the pedal
at it's minimum volume position. This _may_ cost you some
top-end volume, depending on how well the linkage is designed,
slop/play etc., so you may have to compromise a little when
        locking up the collar.

That sounds like it, Andy - it is one of those type of swell pedals.

    Thanks,

I bought one of those last Christmas here in Reading UK! Must say,
there's more to using one of these than meets the eye (other than just
as a foot controlled volume pedal).
