2148.0. "Fender 'Esprit'" by WELCLU::GREENB (Mayday! Mayday! Flagship is sinking!!!!!!!) Wed Mar 20 1991 12:38

I've just seen and played around with an odd Fender in my local guitar
shop. It's an 'Esprit', with double cutaway and two humbuckers. It's
also made from one piece of solid wood, rather than having the
    traditional Fender bolt-on neck.

I guess maybe Fender were trying to get into a bit of the Gibson
market, maybe? It certainly feels more like a Gibson than a Fender,
with very good sustain and a flattish, quite wide neck.

Has anyone else played one of these, or know any more about them?

Nice guitar, and one I've never seen before.

The Esprit goes back a few years, I believe they were made just prior
to CBS selling the company (85?), and were discontinued then. They
also made a nice arch-top designed for them by Jimmy D'Aquisto around
the same time. The idea was to sell to jazz players. Robben Ford
    endorsed the Esprit.

FWIW - In the newest Fender catalog I have, there is a Robben Ford
model. It looks fairly similar to the Esprit model from years ago.
If I bring in the catalog, I'll post some info.
BTW - Robben Ford smokes! If you've never seen him play live,
    check it out!
