2097.0. "Tag team multitracking" by FASDER::AHERB () Sun Feb 03 1991 02:27

    ANybody out there with a 4 track? Ive been wondering if anybody has
    tried getting a group of multitrackers and have each person add a track
    to a tape and then mail it to the next person.. For example somebody
    with drums or drum machine lay down a drum part and another person adds
    a bass, then a guitar and then the lead.. Somebody from one of the
    local BBSs tried it but no one else had a multitrack

    If you guys want to send it to Oz I would be glad to contribute.
    (Does it mean that if I don't I will break the chain and something bad
    will happen)

2097.5speed/noise reductionMILKWY::JACQUESVintage taste, reissue budgetMon Feb 04 1991 23:5817

    Only problem is that everyone would have to be recording at the same
    speed, and it sure would help if everyone had the same noise reduction.

    Many 4-track cassette machines operate at higher than normal speed.
    Cassettes normaly run at 1 7/8"/sec. High-speed machines operate at
    2-3 times that speed.

    Tascam and many others use DBXII noise reduction. Many of the Fostex
    machines use Dolby C.

    I may be interested in contributing a track or two. I use a Tascam
    Porta-1 which operates at normal speed and has DBXII.

2097.6How noisy art thou...MOOV02::DERRICOStuck between Iraq & a hard placeTue Feb 05 1991 10:525
       I have a 246 which is the same as Marks. We'll have to get a
    consensus on who has what.

    We could put tuning info at the head of the track, but as far as noise
    reduction, I'm stumpled. My deck has dbx. I'll contribute a pedal
    steel part, if we decide to include some 'twang' music or some Steely
    Dan.

    I have a porta one. If worst comes to worse we could record it with
    no noise reduction.

2097.9Only inquiring minds...MOOV01::DERRICOStuck between Iraq & a hard placeThu Feb 07 1991 14:4415
    So...Where do we start? Who's on First?

    Q's:

    How many songs?

    Who has any initial ideas? (I might)

    Should we all do DBX?

    What about mailing?

                    Should this be done offline? etc...

2097.10My multitracks in the shop now but...FASDER::AHERBFri Feb 15 1991 23:4613
    I have a Fostex X-26.. I say we shouldnt worry about noise reduction
    until the mixdown...also what type of music you all play? I can play
    either a bass or guitar part.. My Boss drum machine is too weak
    sounding to be used...If I play the Bass part it will probaly sound
    like Geezer Butler .. Ill be playing pentonics everywhere.. If I play
    lead guitar it could be simple depending on what the guitar and bass
    all playing... Who can put in the drum part? How about one track per
    person? The person who wants to start (whoever has the percussion..if
    its REAL drums thats even better) should speak up..

    So tell me what instruments you play and we can figure out who does
    what...
