2090.0. "Advanced Guitar Tabulator" by PAULUS::BAUER (Richard - ISE L10N Center Frankfurt) Tue Jan 22 1991 12:29

Hi there !

Initiated by a question in COMMUSIC I would like to give a brief overview of SW
package named Advanced Guitar Tabulator. I do not (yet ?) own it, but there
have beem reviews in German magazines. Please excuse my terminology, may not
always be accurate...

Advanced Guitar Tabulator is SW package for ARTARI ST, Mega ST etc. (as usual)
which gives referencial and tutorial information for guitar players and/or
musicians that write guitar oriented music (since voicings for chords are
obviously different on a keyboard, licks and solos might be "un-playable" if
guitar specifics are not taken into account).

Advanced Guitar Tabulator has 5 operatings modes:

Chord mode shows the different variants of given chord (16 at a time are
displayed). As usual the 6 strings and the frets are shown accordingly (so you
know how to sort your fingers).

Scale mode shows the various scales for given key. Knows all I have ever heard
of and what I have seen in other discussions in this conference. There's also a
table which suggests some chords for a given note in a given key.

There's a Learn mode, which selects notes from a given key and scale that must
be confirmed via a MIDI device in a certain (selectable) time frame (seems to
be a special service for all CASIO MIDI Guitar owners ;-) ).

The Playlist mode shows a window of 16 chords of a song that are continously
scrolled so that you can read ahead. MIDI out can be selected. A number of
songs are included. Among them are standards like Autumn Leaves and actual
songs like Still Got The Blues.

There's also a simple Sequencer mode, which can be used to develop licks or
soli. It's not an comprehensive sequencer, but if that required standard MIDI
file can be exported to other sequencers.

The package is about 200,- DM and is said to be unique currently. I don't know
if it's available outside Germany, but could find out if required.
