2062.0. "Guy Mann-Dude" by SALEM::TAYLOR_J () Mon Dec 17 1990 18:04

Has anyone heard of this new guitar whiz ? From what I've heard
he was a former student of Steve Vai and all the Heavy metal
kids are talking about his blindingly fast fret work.

    Yeah, I've head of him.

He's a former drummer, and ploays both amazing drums AND lead guitar on
his album _Seight of Hand_. He's good friends with Steve Lukather, who
only has good things to say about Guy's over-the-top, frenzied
fretwork...that right there has gotta say something!! I've heard him
do tapping, and it was pretty amazing (fast, at least).

For those of you who wanna hear him...beforewarned...he sounds NOTHING
    like, say, Lee Rit...this guy's a thrasher!

I heard the name about a year ago; I thought it was a joke. You've got to
admire the agent that thought that up...geeeez. Though I've never knowingly
listened to him, I'm sure he's the fastest guitar player in the known galaxy,
maybe faster.

I got a laugh over a review of his record

                  Guy Mann Dude
             -------------------------------
              Plays like a woman

       This was from Musician Mag.
Guitar world raved about his playing though. I was just curious
to find out what my esteemed collegues thought of this latest
         flash in the pan hotshot.

He said he spent 2 years putting in 12 hours a day of practicing. Top
that off with being able to draw off the knowledge of Vai and Lukather.

Since we've both been playing the same number of years, I'd say it has
    helped him tremendously ;-)

His cover of "Paint It Black" cooks!!

The rest of the album is originals, I believe ... all instru-
mentals, with yells/etc. thrown in by Kevin DuBrow and Alice
Cooper on a couple songs. He's different than Satriani and
Blues Saraceno in that alot of the background music is speed
    	metal, or at least fast-paced.

And a cameo vocal dub by Clint Eastwood on "Clusterphuck".

From reliable sources in the L.A. area...Guy Mann-Dude is...

Really named Guy Stiffman, with bleached hair, a nose job, married,
difficult to work with, due to bad attitude, and recently dropped his
record Co. (MCA) due to inadaquate publicity.

Has been heard on Budweiser, Nike, and various other commercial sound
    tracks.

    But who really cares anyway???

I've never heard his material, but I've read some of his interviews in
Guitar World (he's an interviewer). I hope he plays guitar better than
    he interviews ;-)
