2039.0. "ART effects" by DNEAST::BOTTOM_DAVID (Reelect nobody!) Tue Nov 20 1990 13:16

    I'd like to gather impressions of some different ART multi-effect
    sboxes. I've been toying with getting a multiverb III , 4 effects at
    once etc. Also the multiverb LT looks interesting (3 effects at once).
    They've also introduced a new one the DR-X.

    I'd like a stereo effects processor to go with my rivera now that I
    stold the quadraveb from it, I'd get another quad but I'd like to try
    something different and I can get art and digitec stuff much cheaper
    thanks to my local dealer/drummer. So far none of the digitec stuff has
    lit my interest as much as the ART stuff.

    Does the multiverb III or LT include an enhancer? Is it true stereo or
    is it a mono processor with stereo inputs? IS it worth the money?
    Should I buy J WIlliams' SGE?

2039.1PNO::HEISERthat sounds like noise Mr. Heiser!Tue Nov 20 1990 14:0019
    dbii, looks like you and I are in the same boat ;-) According to my
    ART propaganda:

    MVIII - pitch transposer (2 octaves), digital reverb (24 algorithms),
    gated reverb, reverse reverb, arpeggiated flange, multitap delay,
    rotating leslies, stereo delay (21 different types), stereo echoes (to
    2 full seconds), studio sampling, live sample/playback on the fly,
    stereo panner/imager.  Lists for $529.

    MVLT - this isn't programmable, you basically just use the presets. It
    has stereo chorus, plate reverbs, hall reverbs, room reverbs, cathedral
    reverbs, reverse reverbs, gated reverbs, stereo delays, stereo imaging,
    stereo panning, tap delays, slapback delays, stereo echoes, arpeggiated
    flanges, stereo flanging. Lists for $299.

    Both claim to be FULL stereo in and out. I also like the software
    update feature for any new features they come out with.

2039.2DRXPNO::HEISERGTS - billions served!Tue Nov 20 1990 14:099
    I forgot to add, the MVIII and DRX are listed as having "fully
    transparent spatial enhancement", whatever that means ;-)

    The DRX sounds the best to me, but is a little more than what I want to
    pay. In addition to the previously mentioned effects, it has a
    harmonic exciter, noise gate, programmable EQ, expander, peak limiter,
    compressor, envelope filter, and it will do 10 effects simultaneously.

2039.3NEWOA::DALLISONand a start of a new oneMon Jul 27 1992 04:199

    I borrowed an SGX LT over the weekend.

    In general the unit was kinda tacky, unversatile and cumbersome (why
    don't they put an on/off switch on them?).

    The presets were rather overdone I thought.

    Still, good job I didn't buy one 8^)
2039.4KDX200::COOPERHello me, it's me again!Fri Jan 15 1993 14:584

    Has anyone tried their newer processors like the Terminator or Nitro?
    The Nitro supposedly comes with the X-15 but I haven't found one around
    here yet. They were new at NAMM this year.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    I recently listened to a AlphaVerb 2.0 (or something like that)...
    It was nice! Sort of a QuadraVerb by ART - I'd consdier one for my
    studio if I didn't already have a couple verbs...

    What I'd like to have is my old Roland SDE-1000 delay!

Well I tried a nitro the other day. Bleech! If you liked the SGX-2000 then
you'll like the nitro 'cuz it's the same damn thing (exactly except for
additional presets). new package and sold with the X-15 footswitch. The effects
were ok, the distortion was poor to unbelievably poor. they're touting how great
it is since it comes with more *factory presets* so us dummies won't have to
program. The ART area rep demo'd it for me and then I fussed with it, I told
him to tell engineering to keep trying...

now the new ART mixers are a beauty to behold...

Coop that's a Multiverb Alpha 2.0, the St. Amand tunes I sent you have one on
the toms....

SDE-1000? Coop make me an offer for mine!

    You used reverb on tom-toms?? :-)

    What do you want for it??

    Dave, if you rely on a tube amp for distortion, how would you rate the
    non-distortion effects in the Alpha and Nitro?

The Alpha is a nice unit, no distortions just effects, it has ART's brain dead
user interface (not a fan of most front panel interfaces) but the sounds are
clean clear and very noise free.

The nitro is essentially the Alpha with the sgx distortions etc. It's very noise
free, to the extreme actually, that being the only thing that I was impressed
by, with the distortion on WOW and the input/output all the way up, noise was
virtually imperceptable. The distortions are very grungy and lack both presence
and clarity.

It's a nice unit if you like that sort of thing...but don't expect that great
distortion that'll make you wet...
