1929.0. "Careers in Music" by UPWARD::HEISER (gimme that phone!) Mon Aug 06 1990 22:46

On the last day of music camp, everyone was given guides for planning and
developing a music-related career. It included a generic
organizational structure of the music business system and a listing of
recommended higher educational facilities across the country.

I'll enter sections in the next few replies. I'm not planning to make
this career, but maybe it will be of benefit to some of you.

I'd rather not enter all 150 of the schools offering studies in the
music business and related fields. If you're interested in a
particular state, I can post it or if you want a copy of it let me
    know.

A question came up in another music/musician-related conference that I
moderate, but couldn't answer: Who/what/how determines what singles
are release to the public for airplay, etc.?

> Who/what/how determines what singles are release to the public for airplay,
> etc.?

In general, that decision is made by the artist's Product Manager at the
record company. He is the liason between the band and the label, and oversees
all interactions between the two parties.

Depends on the band though - the more pull they have (ie. the more popular
they are), the more they can dictate (or at least veto) the selection of a
single.
