1828.0. "Vestax tape decks/4 and 6 track." by RAVEN1::JERRYWHITE (Joke 'em if they can't take a ...) Mon May 21 1990 11:11

    Any of you folks had any experience with Vestax 4/6 track tape decks ?

    I'm currently looking at a model MR-100FX, which has ....

    	* 4 tracks
    	* Built-in digital reverb
    	* Stereo FX loop
    	* 3 speeds (norm, high, half)
    	* MIDI synch
    	* 4 assignable bar graphs

    	* ... and more ...

    I can grab one for $525. Sound like a good deal ? Anything better out
    there for the same money ? Call me Dumbo, I'm all ears !

    Well, it's not one of the "name" brand units...

    >	* 4 tracks

    Record 4 at once? 1 at a time? How are they "bounce-able"?

    >	* Built-in digital reverb

    Editable? If you hate the reverb, it's worthless...

    >	* Stereo FX loop

    Stereo send and return?

    >	* 3 speeds (norm, high, half)

    High speed is cool, but 1/2 speed will be a sonic nightmare, worthless
    for hi quality recordings...

    >	* MIDI synch

    A cool feature... Does it generate MIDI clock?

    >	* 4 assignable bar graphs

    Good.

    My first impression is to say "Keep shopping...." This may fit your
    needs but I'm willing to bet there's something else out there that will
    do it better.

    Check DNEAST::COMMUSIC for all kinds of multi-trak poop...

      Vestax?. Sure it wasn't a Vespa?. They make three or four low
    to moderate budget 4 tracks. I'd steer clear of them and go for
    the Teac Porta 05 (about $350, I had one) or one of the Yamahas.
      Of course, as always, this is only my humble opinion. Check out
    Commusic..someone was just going thru the same "which-deck-ordeal?"
    and, as usual, recieved many helpful and courteous replies.

I second the opinion on the Yamaha 4-tracks. My friend has one and the
quality is excellent. It seemed relatively inexpensive too.
