1587.0. "Freak Out for Armenia ?" by EMC2::PELLATT (naCno the Anagram) Wed Dec 13 1989 14:29

The December issue of 'Q' magazine has an article describing a soon-to-be-
released, all-star ( and their mums and dogs ) rendition of "Smoke on the
Water".

Those reported to have contributed seem to include everyone from Dave Gilmour
through the respective duos dynamic of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden to Yngwie
and Steve Vai ! Not forgetting the man in black himself.

Has anyone heard ( of ? ) this yet ? Release dates ? is there a decent video ?
Does anyone get to play more than *the* four notes ???

Enquiring minds want to know, before they yawn and go back to sleep until
the next time Deep Purple run out of money / publicity.

Dave.

Oh boy,

I personally couldn't think of a tune that has more erosion from being
overplayed then this little diddi....

I break out in hives, and dash for the stereo remote at the mere
strike of a G-major chord!! Just in case it SMOKE ON THE WATER again...

What kills me is that the album this tune came from was had about 5 songs
on it that are killers... (Lazy, Highway Star, Maybe Im A leo, etc..)

Big (real big) Blackmore fan, who agrees with Ritchie,,,

"Smoke on the water was probably the biggest piece of RUBBISH I
ever played"

Direct quote....

It's funny that Blackmore should say that. I always liked the song,
    but HATED the leads! %^|

I heard the cut on the radio up here, save yer money...it's ok but does
the world need another version of this?

I agree with Ritchie, the entire album was better than that cut...
