1422.0. "HOT Equipment Price Quotes!!!" by SWAV1::STEWART (There is no dark side of the moon...) Fri Aug 11 1989 16:45

I just scanned the index and realized that we (GUITAR noters)
don't have a topic dedicated to the latest hot prices we
encounter. I like this topic in COMMUSIC, so if we didn't have
one in GUITAR before, we've got one now.

COMMUSIC is on NOVA::, but it's currently corrupted and
write-locked, so give Brad (the moderator) a day to fix it. I
think you'll find that the noters in COMMUSIC have a lot of the
same interests noters here do. In fact, you'll see a lot of the
	same people.

Unless things have changed you can expect to pay between $60-75 for the stacks
and $55-70 for the humbuckers...

I just picked up a pair of EV-15L 400W 15" Bass Speakers direct
from Mesa/Boogie at the unbelieveable price of $160 each. They also
have the 200W version for $125. These are their regular prices,
but according to their salesperson, the prices are slated to
go up on Nov, 15th. The new prices are roughly:

    		200W version - ~$160
    		400W version - ~$219

Boogie also has an 18" bass speakers and 12" guitar speakers,
though I don't know the price. Boogie also pays the shipping, if
    you pre-pay your order.

Prices are slated to go up Nov 15th to the following (ballpark)

1422.34Tascam 424 - $399!QRYCHE::STARRSpontaneity has its time and place.Tue Aug 06 1991 17:3917
I just bought a Tascam 424 4-track recorder from Audio Video Research, in
Watertown. The price was $399, which was $70 less than Musician's Friend
was asking for it!!!

They only had one left at that price, but said they are expecting more in,
and they'll be selling for $424, still the best price I've seen on them!

This is the same place that I mentioned in the Misc. Discussion topic - they
had a big sale for their Grand Opening a couple months ago, and were selling
Shure SM-57s for $69 and SM-58s for $79, and AKG 240-M headphones for $72.

These are all great prices, and people might want to check with them before
buying any recording equipment. If you want, ask for Paul in the Sales dept.,
as he's the one that helped me with the Tascam 424, and seemed to have his
sh*t together....

FWIW, keep in mind that the prices in Musicians Friend's catalog ARE
negotiable! They will at least match most quotes from other places and
will often beat them. I got an amp from them for nearly $200 under the
first price they quoted me (price wasn't printed in the catalog for
    this item).

Yeah, but you don't have to pay city/state sales tax unless you live in
Oregon. This kind of balances the shipping charges. In fact when I
bought my amp, I figured out that the shipping was less then half what
the sales tax would have been! Of course your mileage may vary
depending on the sales tax in your area and how much what you buy costs
    and weighs.

AND for an extra $5.95 they will ship your new toy 2nd day Federal

1422.41424's $429 @ Daddy'sSOJU::SAKELARISFri Aug 16 1991 19:2814
Well, I just bought a Tascam 424 for on sale at Daddy's for $429. This sale
is a markdown of $70 from their normal price. They only had one left in
a box in Shrewsbury, so the dude (Tim Miller, Nashua) called the store
manager up and had it delivered here. I did call Music Emporium and
they were asking $435 for theirs. Everywhere it seems this is a hot
item, they just can't keep 'em in stock. Now that I have one, I see
why. But I'll post something about that in the appropriate topic later.

I hadn't read this topic before I bought mine but
what the hell, I'd just have bellied up to a bar somewhere and drunk
the savings. But then again, figuring the sales tax in Mass, plus the
drive. Hmmm, maybe I only missed out on a glass of water.

I just sent mail to Kevin, but I thought I'd point it out to the rest of you.
Before buying any PA-related gear, you should check pricing up at New England
Speaker. For example, they have the EV S-152s for only $577. Other sampling
of everyday prices include Shure SM-57s for $79 and SM-59s for $99; dbx 166
compressor for $350; Sonetic (QSC) amp [425wpc @ 4 ohms] for $399; Crown
PB-2 amps for $550 and PB-1 for $445; and lots more stuff....

Brands they carry include: ART, Ashley, Audio Technica, Denon, EV, Furman,
Crown, Fostex, Samson, JBL, Shure, Yorkville, Cerwin Vega, Sonic, QSC,
Gemini, dbx, DOD/Digitech, AB International, Rane, and more.

For those in the Colorado area, Drum City & Guitar Land is blowing out
their remaining Marshall stuff at 40% off. Think they still had a 4500
and a few straght and slant cabs left...

40% off retail? What do they usually sell it at? Isn't that only
    about 10% less than normal?

Could be. I don't think they're going to renew their Marshall contract
after the stock is gone so maybe they can be negotiated down a bit
    more???
