1409.0. "Eventide H3000 Ultra Harmonizer" by KIPPIS::LEHTINEN (He's here! The Phantom of The Opera...) Tue Aug 01 1989 21:21

I understand that some of you own an Eventide H3000. I'm
thinking of getting one. I would like to ask your opinnion
on if it's still worth paying the $ for ? Or should one
maybe consider some of the newer cheaper alternatives.
A pitch detection/diatonic harmonize feature is a must for
me, but I understand that there is at least one other (can't
remember the brand) device that does it.

I haven't really heard the H3000 very much so basically what
I'd like to hear from owners of the device is 'does it really
have bang for the buck' ?

    Thanks for any advise.

Well, I'd suggest checking out the Digitech IPS-33 Smart Shift
harmonizer first. The H3000 is a *great* unit, but pricey! The IPS-33
works fine for diatonic and/or 12 tone Harmonization applications for a
    resonable price (around $500.00).

Haven't really toyed with the H3000, I'm sure its a better unit,
but I'm not sure how much quality you need for you application.

    Re: .1

Thanks for your answer. I'm thinking it for general studio use.
I.e. vocals and stuff in addition to guitars. So it should be
"studio quality". How's the quality of the pitch shift on the
    IPS-33 ? Any glitches ? How quiet ? Bandwidth ?

I heard that the transposition scale on the H3000 can be programmed
in "micro level" to get non-equaltempered tunings, where as the
IPS-33 is limited to standard 12 tone equal temperement. Is this
    true ?

I have had an H3000 for just about a year now and it is probably the best effect
I own. It not only does Harmonization but also Reverbs, Multi-tap delays,
Flanging, Chorusing, Panning, etc. It is software updatable and has 1000 patch
locations (although you tend to run out of memory before get anyware near this
limit). You can have tuning based on one cent increments so micro-tonal scales
should be possible, although I have not messed with any. The H3000 is
definitely studio quality and IMO the IPS does not come close. The unit is
pricey but there is nothing better.

does it do more than one effect at a time?

Anyone know of a mail order place that sells this? The only local that
    carries it is too pricey.

    thanks,

Take a look in the back of Mix magazine, a lot of of the advertisers
    there have them.

Are any of them fairly well known? I've never read that periodical.

Yeah, a lot of them are well known. Remind me and I'll send you some
    names and numbers through email...

I think that the H3000 comes in different configurations (like the
2290), so if you're comparing prices, be sure you're comparing the same
    item.

I'd probably try Sam Ash first, I bet they carry it and they'll give
you a good price to shop around with.
