1340.0. "Help with bone nut removal?" by FROST::SIMON (Birds can't row boats) Tue Jun 13 1989 17:08

Well, since doing a dir/key=repair didn't yield an existing discussion, I'll
ask this here....

Does anybody know what would be the easiest way to remove the bone nut on
a stratocaster? It sits in a slot and is glued. There isn't much to grap
onto to pull it out and I really don't want to damage the neck. Is there
a trick to disolving the glue or something?

Any help would be appreciated.

Try this:

remove strings
get teakettle hot & boiling
expose the nut to the steam for say 4-5 seconds
see if it lets go
repeat exposure until the glue softens

took about 5 secs on my strat just about two weeks ago
