1251.0. "ARIA PRO II DISASTER" by RAVEN1::DANDREA () Tue Apr 11 1989 15:50

anyone out there knowlegeable about ARIA"S?. during my move to gso
my aria pro II was dropped from about 12' to the pavement below
the moving van. when removed from the case i discovered a crack
that appears to be in the finish only on the face of the instru-
ment just above the neck/body joint. the neck looks like it's
twisted and bowed very slightly and the first string now is contacting
the first screw on the back (lead) pickup. sounds gruesome huh?

my problem is, the untrained eye of an insurance adjuster will see
the split in the finish, and think of minor finishing repair. i
believe that i have major damage and that the repair would invlove
removing the neck (which is glued on), and re-mounting, and
re-finishing. there's a chance that this would cost more than the
replacement value of the guitar. it's a les paul shaped aria pro
II with gold hardware, active dual humbuckers, kahler locking
tremelo, an a hardshell case. anyone know of a dealer who still
deals with aria???? i need a replacement cost quote for the insur-
ance ninnies, and all i need is a phone number. if you know a
friendly aria dealer, reply with a phone number with area code.

    thanks....

I can't help you with a dealer, but most insurance companies will
allow/use estimates from a suitable repair establishment for speciality
items. Obvious a general appraiser is not going to be able to
correctly appraise the cost of repair for a musical instrument.

This was the case for my brother-in-law who had some speciality
furniture which was damaged by a tornado. They wouldn't even estimate
it themselves, but arranged with a furniture dealer which specialized
in this area to do the estimate (which was very generous).

Judging from his node name, (RAVEN1) I'd say he's in the Greenville,
    SC area.

Say Steve? You might want to check with Jerry White, who shares
your node, or Jeff (ASAHI::)Cooper. These guys are both in your
area and are familiar with the stores.

greenville, s.c. is correctomundo. i've talked with jeff cooper,
he's gonna handle my repair estimate. what i need to supplement
this is a letterhead quote from an aria dealer that can tell me
the exact cost of replacement when jeff's quote is complete.
i.e. how much is a new aria pro II in my configuration?

    Yep, thats right...

Noizy Boize Productions Inc. sez the guitar is a total loss.
    Thanks for the plug Greg.

Sorry guy, aria hasn't made a Les Paul style for years....since the
battles w/fender and gibson over licensing for duplication,Ibanez,
Fernandez,Aria, and Hondo have all but ceased to make copies of stock
strats, teles s.g.s l.p.s because of the ruckus resulting from some
copies being superior at 1/2 the cost.I wish you luck;hope everything
    works out

thanks for all the input, folks. it looks like the experts think
all i need is an adjustment, and a re-finishing job to the tune
of $150. the mover's insurance company will cover all costs.

    thanks again....
