1248.0. "8" speaker suggestions?" by ELESYS::JASNIEWSKI (We're part of the fire that is burning!) Mon Apr 10 1989 15:27

I need to replace an *8* inch speaker in a guitar amp. What
are the "hot" 8" speakers available and where, besides the Eminance
one from McGee Radio in Kansas City?

GK are currentlyusing two 8" speakers in their 2000ML amp, which is
like 100wts in stereo. I think they're celestions, but not sure. They
were using pile drivers, but I heard they switched over, you may wanna
    look into it.

depending on $ and the performance required, you can go with
    the eminance,pyle,celestion or (I BELIEVE) radio shack.They
should all be adequate for a practice amp-for anything serious
(output>15w) I would recommend some spec comparisons keeping
in mind that all the above have a rep (excluding celestion)
for somewhat overstating their product's performance. I
myself have recently acquired a 2x12" cabinet and intend
to replace the awful univox(yech!!!)speakers w/something
for a practice bass cabinet-probably 2-poly woofers (more
or less a good home stereo type of speaker so I can reproduce
the low end as hi spl's are not necessary in the bedroom.
    good luck;Bill
