1243.0. "99's still have acoustic music?" by SQUEKE::AV () Wed Apr 05 1989 18:58

Does anyone know if the 99 restaurants in Mass. still have acoustic
entertainment. If so, how can I get more info, such as:

    	Who does the booking?
    	How many nights per week?
    	How much do they pay?
    	Which ones have it?
How much equipment do you need to bring?

Also, are there any other restaurants that have a similar arrangement?
    (I know Thackary's used to).

    Thanks,
    Ross

The last time I ate at Margaritaville in Auburn, they had a
acoustic guitarist/vocalist for entertainment. Also, the
Firehouse cafe on Foster Street in Worcester usually has
similar entertainment. It never hurts to call and ask.

I have also heard that the ski lodge at Mount Wachusett also hires
    acoustic acts.

The Mountain Barn on rt 31 in Princeton used to hire an acoustic
    guitarist on weekends

    hope this helps

Speaking of acoustic acts, did anyone ever see/hear a guy who used
to play at a place called Timothy's Spirits Company on Rt. 9 in
Framingham, MA.? He used to play a 12-string. I'm wondering if he
is still performing. This was in the early 1970's...

I saw John Morgan down on the cape (At the Crystal Palace).
His act was outrageous. He used to do a lot of gigs
at the ski places up north. Mostly mount Snow I believe.
Part of the pretense of his act was celebrating something about
ski-ing, or something to do with winter. Can't quite remember.

When I saw him, it was mid-summer, and about 85 degrees F.
He wore a ski coat, hat and gloves, made the management
close all of the windows and doors, and turn off the air
conditioning. The object of all of this was to see
how high a room full of drunken crazies could get the
	thermometer to rise.

After about an hour of his playing, telling dirty jokes
and getting the couwd to dance and jog in place, the place was
aboyt 104 degrees. I remember him saying that it was a good
try, but it didn't break his record. There were lots of people
taking beer showers to stay cool, so it was kind of an impromptu
	amature wet tee-shirt contest.

I don't recall his guitar playing abilities, but he was
a first class entertainer, in a wierd wild animal house
	college bash kind of way.

Does this sound like the same John Morgan you are talking about?
