--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been trying to get together a guitar Wurlygig for many months. This one
is sponsored by Ibanez, and even though it isn't free, it sounds like it's
worth the $5 bucks.

guitar instructor and performer at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT).
Tickets are going fast and are very limited. DECMS people can call Eddie to
have tickets reserved at the door. All DEC people, friends, and family are
invited. This is not a DECMS only function.

ps. If you haven't checked out the new Alesis Quadraverb f/x unit, it's worth
    it. Just unbelievable for the guitar! Would someone please post this note
    in the heavy_metal conference?

1237.1FYI on GilbertMARKER::BUCKLEYI wish it was summertime all year!Thu Mar 30 1989 17:498
    Just phoned up Eddie...he sez tickets are not in yet, so I was advise
    to call back in two weeks when they would probably be in. Wasn't
    able to reserve them now.

    I missed Gilbert in NH ... everyone said he was the best, so I wouldn't
    miss out on this clinic for anything!!!!

1237.2It's about time !!ANT::JACQUESFri Mar 31 1989 12:2111
    I have been trying to get Eddie to set up something for us
    since November. They originally said they would like to
    get a guy named Youngblood (from Roland) to come in and
    do a demo, however this guy is in big demand.

    I wonder if this will be limited to Ibanez guitars and
    effects, or if it will cover other equipment as well.

    A friend saw this demo...it was Paul playing an Ibanez guitar through
    an ADA MP-1. He said the clinic is a breathtaking experience in
    technique and approach.
1237.4Clinic review ANT::JACQUESMon May 08 1989 13:1638
    I went to this clinic Saturday night. I noticed Bill Buckley was
    also there. The place was pretty well packed, with about half of
    the people (myself included) standing. Paul started off by telling
    us that he has just finished with Racer X and has a new band in
    the works called "Mr. Big". He warmed up along with some sequenced
    backup, and sounded great. He was using a black Ibanez 760 guitar
    with hot-pink f-holes painted on. His rig consisted of a single
    ADA MP1 pre-amp, in a rack with other effects, including a HushII,
    and 2 Marshall slant cabs. He says that he also uses a Metaltronix
    preamp.

    The "Clinic" part consisted of about an hour of Paul showing us his
    "boring guitar licks" which incorporate alternate picking techniques,
    and 3 note/string scales, and arpeggios. The techniques are simple enough
    and quite useable, but getting them up to his level of speed and
    proficiency could take years.

    The clinic was followed by a question and answer session.

    After the clinic ended, they gave out a few prizes. First of all
    they gave out 8 posters, then about 10 tee-shirts. Since I have
    never won anything in my life, and neither were overly exciting,
    I wasn't too dissipointed not to win one. The last prize was a
    copy of the Paul Gilbert video (which they had placed on sale for
    $39, normally $45), and guess what, I won !! I was sort of wondering
    how I was going to remember all those licks (since they didn't have
    enough copies to go around). The video covers pretty much the same
    material he did Saturday, with lots of clowning around in between.
    For instance, his first guitar trick is to pull a rabbit from behind
    his guitar, while his beautiful assistant stands by. His second
    guitar trick is to wrap his guitar in a strait jacket and then his
    guitar magically escapes. Pretty cornball, but it breaks up the
    monotany, and gives you time to get down the licks before he goes
    into more new stuff.

    Overall, a pretty good video, and the best part....It was free !!!!!
