Just wondering if any of you guitar mavens ever heard of
a guy name Lloyd Ellis. I saw some sort of documentary
a while ago on TV and the sound track was all solo
    guitar music.

I saw the name on the credits, but have never seen any
recordings or heard anything else about the guy.

He was playing jazzy chord solos on the soundtrack. Very
    nice stuff.

Lloyd Ellis plays with Pete Fountain's group and has been a top
player for over 40 years. He probably never leaves New Orleans.

Thanks; I have a Pete Fountain record but none of the band members
are identified. I'll have to listen to it again and see if the
    Guitar stands out anywhere.

Do you know if he's made any solo recordings?

There was an arrticle in Guitar Player about him a few years ago--There
may be a discography. I'll try to remember to look it up. I suspect
    the answer is no.

There are a number of good jazz guitarists throughout the country
who do not tour or record much, but are still top talent. Bob Conte,
Buddy Fite, and of course, Johnny Smith come to mind. Ellis was
never as well known as these guys, which is a shame, since he's
    quite good.

I agree. I was very impressed with the music I heard on that
documentary and that was only supposed to be background music. I
think it would stand on its own easily.

I've never heard of Bob Conte or Buddy Fite. I've been a longtime
Johnny Smith fan though. Just last week I finished figuring out
and notating "My Funny Valentine" from "The man with the blue
guitar". I hope to eventually work my way through the whole
    record.

If you do get a chance to look up the article I'd be very interested
    in hearing about it.
