| Great idea!!! I'm always interested in increasing my knowledge, which
is admittedly weak. As a matter of fact, I was looking for something
similar to this when I first started reading this note and the MUSIC
conference.
I would say that this conference has been more informative than the
other, but I suppose that's a function of the general concept behind
the note not anyones fault (yep, this is an attempt to keep from
getting flamed by avid MUSIC noters...)
Just from reading the other notes here, there is obviously a lot
of musical knowledge available here. I know I'd like to tap it.
So how about it all you musical wizards (bow, bow, grovel, grovel...),
Whatcha think?

I think this would be a great idea. As stated in the previous reply,
I for one would also like to gain from those who are very knowledgable.
The week by week lesson thing also sounds great. One thing that
I would like to see is that if somebody does decide to write the
column that it be written so the beginner understands and the knowledgable
don't get bored.

| I thought it was a good idea when I wrote that base note. However,
with the lack of replies, I didn't think too many people agreed.
Especially the people with the theory skills to write the columns.

It looks like the only ones interested in this are the recepiants,
judging from the replies.
Perhaps we ignorant types should do a little research and put in what
we learn. Then those that REALLY know it can correct us if necessary.

I can see where it would be difficult for someone to write
a column. Time seems to be a scarce commodity, along with
the fact that there is a myriad of topics from which to choose.
Perhaps people could enter some questions that they have concerning
specific topics of music theory. I have often found the
noters here to be more than willing to answer questions.
There are several sources of material available to you. You could
get a textbook on beginning music theory from a college book store
or check out some of the articles in magazines such as Guitar Player.
Personally, I have found private lessons to be invaluable
to someone serious about learning.

| There are a few articles posted to various conferences about things
theoretical. One such note is in DREGS::MUSIC -- "So you wanta
learn about theory, huh?" -- Note #188. In this file there is a
discussion of the Circle of 5ths at Note #186. Sprinkled throughout
this conference are different technique type discussions that sometimes
delve into theoretical issues, e.g. using different modes. The
very first note (I believe) is about blues scales.
