615.0. "AHA-1540CF is supported by WNT 4.0 ???" by BRADEC::KUZMA () Mon Jun 02 1997 15:10

Hello,

I would like to know if SCSI adapter AHA-1540CF is supporte by WNT 4.0.

I received this adapter as PB2HA-SA option instead of AHA-1742A.

When I installed the adapter in any free slots in Jensen,it looks like empty
slot and ECU utilities did not accept the new option.

Is there any way to install this adapter in Jensen or I will have to use 1742
( BA350 will be connect to this second adapter) ?

			Thank you

    Stefan,

I think you are asking two separate questions.

    1) Is the AHA-1540CF supported on Windows NT 4.0?

       Yes.

    2) Is the AHA-1540CF supported on Jensen?

My guess is that the 1742 rule is mandatory for a boot
device, but I can't see why a 1540CF would not work as
       a secondary SCSI host adapter.

Someone who knows for certain can probably clear this up.

    Regards,

    /Bill

Hello Bill,

You are right.

The main question is if the AHA-1540CF can be used in Jensen.

Because,no action was made on hardware level to detect new adapter.
FW is from V3.8 CD and ECU 1.8.

Perhaps the only SCSI adapter which is supported in Jensen is AHA-1740,42.

615.3Choose a card, any card...NESBIT::caly70.ayo.dec.com::GordonGordon McNabWed Jun 04 1997 11:549
.1 is absolutely correct. The 1742 needs to be there always. Other cards
might work as secondary controllers.

In .2 - the 1540 is an ISA card so the ECU has no way of knowing that it is
there.

You don't *need* a 1742 the 1740 will work just as well just without
    Floppy support

Having tried all manner of other cards ISA and EISA I can say that none
    will do the job.

Is the job:

	- seen by console, and works as primary (boot) controller
   or
	- seen by NT, and works for data disks

not usable as a boot device.
I have managed to get a 1510 to work as a data device after booting with
     a 1740!
