    Didn't see a topic for related conferences...

    Has anyone else been able to access SNOC02::AUSSIE_NOTES ?

    I receive an error:

    Error in device name or inappropriate device type for operation

    I can't say that I have heard of that conference. The error message is
    probably not relevant and is caused by NOTES$LIBRARY apparently being a
    search list that includes a directory that is no longer in existence,
    more specifically a logical name that is no longer defined. Even after
    that problem is resolved it seems likely that you will just get a
    better error message.

    Where did you get the pointer to the conference? Has it ever worked?
    The conference of conferences lists that conference as being "file not
    found" in NOV-1995 so it has been gone a while and is probably lost.
    What did you want with the conference? Perhaps another conference is a
    suitable alternative.

    If you are outside Australia then I suggest you just send email to
    SNOC02::SYSTEM. Alternatively you could try SNOFS1::IPS_HELPDESK but
    I'm not sure whether the help desk services anyone anywhere.

If it's not worth asking here, it's not worth asking....

...as long as you don't expect an answer

    Hi, thanks for the replies...

    The latest easynotes.lis shows five conferences hosted by SNOC02.

    SNOC02::AUSSIE_NOTES	DEC Notes in Australia
    SNOC02::BPR 		Business Process Reengineering
    SNOC02::DEFENCE_AERO_SPR	So. Pac. Defence, Military, Aerospace
    SNOC02::PCSA_SOPAC		PCSA - South Pacific
    SNOC02::TIPS		Training Information Packages

    Four out of the five conferences are accessible, except for
    Aussie_notes.

    The error being returned is not "file not found", as one would expect
    if the file no longer existed.

    The error listed in .0 sounds as if either the file is corrupted, or
    there is a logical pointing to another location, and this location is
    having problems?

    Thanks for your help, Pc

    The error is precisely as I have stated in .1. If you want something
    done about it then I suggest you email one of the addresses given in
    .1. I can diagnose the problem but am at a completely different site
    and can't fix anything.

    Thanks Mark for responding, this is the reason why the error message
    returned was "Error in device name or inappropriate device type".

    Turns out there was a logical pointing to a non-existant disk and
    directory. Mark has removed the logical, so Aussie_notes is not a valid
    notes conference anymore...

Hi Patrick,

There is currently no notes file called AUSSIE_NOTES on SNOC02.

The NOTES$LIBRARY logical points to (among other things) some users login
directories (I guess so that they can moderate these files??)

Anyway, there was a user in this list that no longer has an account on SNOC02,
so it is possible that the AUSSIE_NOTES file was in her directory.
