326.0. "Commonwealth NetBank" by RINGSS::WALES (David from Down-Under) Wed Apr 09 1997 17:41

G'Day,

Just thought I'd stick a note in here to advise those of you that may
have thought of using the new NetBank service from the Commonwealth Bank from
behind the Digital firewall to forget about it.

The client software requires direct access to the Bank's computers via a
specific IP port. This requires a hole to be openned in the firewall and the
administrators have said this cannot happen. They were happy to relay requests
(similar to a WWW proxy) but this would have meant a change to the client
software that the Bank would not support.

	Back to PhoneBank....

David.

You could get a modem and dial out from your desk to your ISP (if it is
    still in business )-:).

G'Day,

That was the Bank's suggestion but as I can do everything else from
behind the firewall it seems a little expensive to get an ISP just to use
NetBank. Bank fees are bad enough on their own!

Fortunately, The Wally Report suggests the banks should become bigger
so that they'll become more competitive; I predict a lowering of fees -
    NOT.

For those of us with short memories as well as short arms can you
indicate to which notes you are referring?

(David is a permie so I don't suppose he has as many options to avoid
     PAYEing tax as contractors do.)

    My deepest apologies David,

I mistaken thought you had put those comments in this conf about how to
avoid taxes by creating a British company and dodging the taxes but
when I checked the previous notes I found that it was that lowlife :^)
Gary Russell who isn't paying taxes like the rest of us !!!!!!!

I've got a good mind to go back to England for another working holiday
and do EXACTLY the same thing.

Well, I lie, I don't have a good mind or I would have remembered it was
    Gary and not David.

The note where Gary stuck it right to us is :
