4069.0. "VS-2000 4 meg board on an Amiga 500" by 11SRUS::REED (On the cutting edge of oblivion) Fri Aug 31 1990 17:23

	Hi,

I was wondering if there was any way to connect a
	2 / 4 Meg memory board from a Vax station 2000 to
	an Ami 500.

The part numbers on the board are ...

		BE3-0 LPWP
		L1 5016801-01-D2

Checkout Cheapram.* on TAPE:: for what it's worth....

I built up an adapter based on the CHEAPRAM project. The 2/4 meg
boards looked really great in that all of the signals matched up.

I did a couple of iterations of the design and got to one that sort of
worked in that I got the occasional guru message. I saw this as
pleasing in that at least I wasn't completley screwing up the memory
    timing etc.

I set out to put this thing INSIDE my A500. This necessitated the
soldering of about 30 wires to various chips inside the A500. These
wires were about 30cm (1 foot) long.

Why didn't it work? (pick one or more)

    1.	no decoupling caps on my chips (lazy)
    2.	crosstalk/noise on these long wires
    3.	propagation delay (1.5 nsec/inch)
    4. overloading the output on the ram chips ( had to parallel up the
        data outs)

I still believe that the design will work.

Then I bought an A2500 w 3meg and thought "WTF" (not window to front)
havent touched it since. I think I've still got the design around. if
you want it, ask and i'll send it via internal mail.

    cheers,
    Glenn

4069.3How to access TAPE::Cheapram.*???11SRUS::HUDSONInnocent til proven guiltyTue Sep 04 1990 21:3510
    Pete,
What does Cheapram.* include as far as documentation goes,
and how do I get to it??? I tried to copy it over to my system
using the copy command 'COPY TAPE::CHEAPRAM.* *.*' and it couldn't
find anything by that name. Any help would be appreciatted.
