Ok, let's try.
First I will asume that you are sitting at home and dialing DIGITAL.
(Beacause that's much more easy).
Before anyuthing else CREAte a new /DIREctory and SET DEFAult there
Then on the the VAX:
ZOO - $ COPY WJG::AMIGA:ZOO.EXE []/LOG
ZMODEM - $ COPY TAPE::USER2:[AMIGA.UTILITIES]ZMODEM.ZOO []/LOG
Now define your ZOO symbol - $ ZOO :== $mydisk:[mydir]zoo
!!! Note the dollar sign before disk name !!!
Try it by typing ZOO h[return], you should some help there.
Now we should unpack the ZMODEM kit - $ ZOO e ZMODEM.ZOO
You should now have the sz and rz.exe in your directory,
define them in the same way as ZOO ($ SZ :== $mydisk:[mydir]sz ...)
I recomend you to put all these symbol definitions in a command
file (like LOGIN.COM) so you dont have to type it every time.
Okey, now the AMIGA end:
Setup your terminal program for ZMODEM transfer protocol and 8 bits
1 stop no parity, dial up DIGITAL and type: $ SZ filetosend.abc
(If your terminal program doesn't support ZModem, then there are XModem
programs for VAX out on the net, and I havn't seen a terminal program
yet that doesn't support that.)
Good luck
/Jojo

| Three years ago, with a fresh A1000 in my hot little hands, I never
dreamed I'd become a certified Notes Curmudgeon. :-( Please, PLEASE,
use DIR/TITLE="DOWNLOAD" to find many previous notes on this question,
two within the past month.
The best answer I can give you is: try to find someone at your
facility who can walk you through the process, and perhaps load up one
of your spare floppy disks with public domain tools along the way.
Offer him a pint or two for his troubles. Second best is to find
another Amiga enthusiast in the general area and find out how to
download from a bulletin board system, then find an MS-DOS or Macintosh
person at work who can tell you about the extra complications involved
in dialing up a VAX.
If you want to or must avoid using modems, then several notes in this
notesfile talk about how to transfer between work and home systems
using IBM-format floppy disks.
