4029.0. "Intuitracker song player" by CGOFS::DREW (Steve Drew) Mon Aug 20 1990 22:30

Heres, a neat program. Intuitracker; this is a player for all
        those SOUND-TRACKER songs.

Most games use this format of song file as it works from
efficient asynchronous routines that dump directly to the
PAULA (sound chip). For example Christal Hammer, Defender of
the Crown are just a couple of the games that use SOUND
        TRACKER modules.

This player opens a small Intuition window with gadgets like
a CD player that allows you to preprogram the order in which
to play the songs, or choose a random mode. It has the option to
produce a real time spectrograph (bar graph equalizer) display
as the music is playing. It also has gadgets for volume, pause,
eject, stop, rewind, seek and so on.

To use this program just run it, and use the pull down to
select the device/dir where the songs are loaded (ie DF1:),
it then looks for all mod.* files and builds a menu
        displaying these files.

I have put together 5 (full) disks of songs. Each disk
contains about 10 songs. Many of them are fantastic, all of
them are worth listening to. I have LHARC'd them into 5
separate files each can be de-LHARC'd to produce a disk full
        of songs.

        The location is CGOU01::AMIGA:[MUSIC.ST]

You will also find the intuitracker player there. All these
songs can be loaded into SOUND-TRACKER/NOISE-TRACKER or MED
(the best one) if you are wanting to extract the instruments,
        or edit the songs.

        WARNINGS:
        ---------

        1. I can not find a doc file for Intuitracker, although I thing it's
           fairly straight forward.

        2. CRASHES my system when actively using VLT (serial port active).

        3. The tempo, plays one notch too fast, Intuitracker does have a +/-
gadget for the temp but it only stays in effect for the current
track. (about 10 secs). Track is one download into the PAULA chip,
128 bytes or some such number. Each song shows how many tracks it
plays for, and the current track.

This is version 1.1 if anyone has a later version please let
        us know.

        enjoy,

        ./Steve/.

4029.1Great tunes !MEALA::COLLINSSTEVETue Aug 21 1990 08:5221

Thanks for the upload Steve , I've been playing/modifying all these
tunes for the last couple of nights and had some great fun.
These tunes are really excellent if you find anymore I'd be very eager
    to hear them.
I've have copies of MED , Soundtracker and Noisetracker , So far I've
only been able to get the modules working properly in Noisetracker .
When I use Soundtracker V2.5 it only plays one of the four channels
and when I use MED it refuses to load the module .

BTW If any one knows where I can get a more recent version of MED than
1.1 please let me know .I'm particularly interested in the version that
    supposed to support MIDI .

    Steve Collins ...

    Thanks again,

4029.2MED 2.0 is on FF349STAR::ROBINSONTue Aug 21 1990 15:1211
Version 2.0 of MED is on fish disk 349. It has some options to allow
loading of Soundtracker modules, though I haven't tried it yet. This version
has some midi support and I found one bug - saving a song with the icons
gadget enabled (the default I think) places the icon in the default MED
directory instead of the directory where you save the song. Source is included
if anyone with a complier feels ambitious about fixing that.

Nice program. I'm looking forward to trying out the new songs and intuitracker.

MED 2.0 does load these ST song modules ok. But I have been unsucessful
in getting Intuitracker to play and modules saved by MED. According to
the MED 2.0 docs the author mentions he uses a different/better
compresion when saving modules to disk. Even though MED does have
gadgets to save in ST-Module format, it still seems to be incompatible,
my guess is this difference in compression. But if anyone does figure
out how please let me know.

IntuiTracker and the song modules are great. Thanks for compiling
    them.

My one-year-old kid seems to like computer music better than the 'real'
    stuff.
