4021.0. "Turbo Silver Hints Please!!" by TROA02::ITHOMSON () Thu Aug 16 1990 16:48

    Hi Amiga Gurus,
        I have Turbo sliver 2.0 and it seems like a powerfull tool.
    Has anybody out there use the package to do animations.
    I want to create a Logo for instance and have the camera move
    around, inside, outside with changing light sources.

    Could anyone give me hints on how to use it. The manual does not
    give an example to follow of how to create an animation.

    Thanx.

    I use Turbo Silver ALOT and my best answer to you is to READ THE
    (poorly done) MANUAL very carefully. Take special note of AXISes
    and GLASS doesn't mean "make it look like glass".

    The rest is experimentation!

4021.22.0 goes bak a waysSALEM::LEIMBERGERFri Aug 17 1990 09:1516
    I use "Turbo Silver 3.0 SV", and while the manual covered animations,
    I haven't done much due to rendering times(SV is much faster than
    2.0). Basically for what you are trying to do you get the first
    cell done then copy it to the next cell,or cells. Close the first
    cell,open the next make changes,do again...and again until your
    cells are done.I have done this once,and it was not as hard as it
    appears. If I had to give advice I'd say view the Video "World of
    Silver" that is put out by Impulse. This tape will save ENDLESS
    hours of aggravation . BTW Don't judge Turbo Silver by the results
    you get with 2.0 . The SV version is far better than even the 3.0
    you purchase in the stores. Also be carefull many of the supporting
    programs do not support 2.0 files anymore. InterFont has a Turbo
    silver module that will convert to 2.0 format. I found 2.0 to be
    very hard to use. thier are several notes on TS in this conference,
    so it may help if you reread some of these.

4021.3Upgrade to 3.0SVTROA02::ITHOMSONMon Aug 20 1990 18:356

    Is it possible to upgrade to TS 3.0SV. If so, please tell me the
    process.

4021.4You have to order it from ImpulseDECWET::DAVISYou always get what you deserveMon Aug 20 1990 22:038
    Call Impulse and order the upgrade. I can't remember the price but I
    think it was approximately $40-50 and worth the upgrade price. Anyone
    get any information on Imagine yet?

    p.s. They have an "800" number so you can call the "800" operator and
    get it.  (1-800-555-1212)
4021.5$30.00,and a prayerSALEM::LEIMBERGERWed Aug 22 1990 08:4421
    	I paid $30.00 when I upgraded to SV. I can't remember if I needed
    the original disk or not. I do know that you had better sent in your
    registration card. A friend of mine bought TS,and got the SV version
    in his package by mistake. Impulse refused to honor his registration
    because they said he had not purchased Sv through them. It turned out
    that an ex employee had dumped a batch of SV disks into the loop. Well
    After a hard struggle my friend Thinks he is registered. He won't be
    sure until the next news letter is sent out. If I get mine,and he gets
    his then he's in. Funny thing is I felt cheated because I got the
    regular TS when I purchased mine,and thought I was supposed to get
    SV. Now I am very happy that I got TS,as opposed to SV when I purchased
    the software. Impulse is great for support but if they lose your card
    (another friends problem),or it fails to get to them, you need an act
    of God to get on their DataBase. Haven't heard anything about Imagine
    lately. I quit calling because you get RSN from them but no commit. The
    friend that I mentioned above has already sent in his money for the
    upgrade to Imagine so if he got in He'll get the upgrade as soon as
    it is released. ME! I can't come up with the bucks so I'm thankful for
    the delay. But as soon as I get the notice I'll scramble to pull it
    together.

4021.6Need Silver ANIM playerDECWET::DAVISeleven benevolent elephants, eleven...Wed Sep 12 1990 06:037
    I've been trying to get one of my Silver animations to run with
    Superview and it just draws the first frame.(then to get rid of it
    I have to reboot) Anyone know of an anim player that works with the
    animations produced with the Silver "Make ANIM" command? Showanim
    works but causes some discoloration is some of the frames.

4021.7But do you have conversionitis?STAR::ROBINSONWed Sep 12 1990 15:1622
You might look into the following from Fish disk 359:

ABridge An interim solution to Anim-5 incompatability problems.
  Identifies the origin of an Anim-5 file and modifies it to
  facilitate easy exchange between AniMagic, Videoscape,
  Animation Station, DPaint III, Animation: Editor(v1.11),
  The Director, SA4D, Movie2.0, Photon Paint 2.0 and Cel
  Animator. Fully intuitionalized interface, full ARexx
  support including a "Find ARexx" option if you start ARexx
  after running ABridge. This is version 1.0, shareware,
  binary only.
  Author: Ron Tarrant, Mythra-mations Animation and Software

I haven't used it. If Silver uses one of the "standards" (ha)
mention above, you may be in luck.

There is also a program called Capture which was discussed in a previous
note and is available on the net ( WJG::AMIGA:CAPTURE.ARC ). This program
records the frames of a playing animation into another "standard" format.

Good luck,
Dave
4021.8Ham may be problemCRISTA::LEIMBERGERI have my marbles now I want yoursThu Sep 13 1990 11:525
>> works but causes some discoloration is some of the frames.
  You may get a discoloration problem with many viewers due to the HAM
aspect of the pictures. I have an animation that runs fine in Dpaint but
not show with showanim.(this is a 16 color HR pic)

4021.9Used Abridge from FF359DECWET::DAVISeleven benevolent elephants, eleven...Thu Sep 13 1990 16:1616
    I think it has something to do with using "disturb" to animate my
    "floor" The "distortion" I get is the color of my "floor" and seems
    to bleed onto a brush mapped object. When I used the player in Silver
    things work fine. I will call Impulse support.

    I used Abridge(FF359) last night. It is nicely intuitionized, has an ARexx
    port, and does what it is supposed to do fairly quickly. I converted
    my Silver anim to Animation Station, The Director/Movie, AnimMagic, and
    tried to convert it to DpaintIII(which wouldn't work due to DPIII's HAM
    limitation).  My anim is a 6 frame(modest, I know), 132K file.  Abridge
    took about 2s to process and file it. It does its processing in memory
    but the docs stated that a future update will allow you to process
    anims from disk. You can say I was impressed with this shareware
    offering.
