4014.0. "The Animation Studio" by CRISTA::LEIMBERGER (I have my marbles now I want yours) Tue Aug 14 1990 16:14

I have been playing with The Animation Studio from
Disney Computer Software. It excells in it's primary function
of cel animation(pardon the pun),and has some features that
are lacking in Dpaint III. Most noticable is the onoin skin
feature. The article in Amiga World pretty much sum's it up,
so Their is not much I can say that they did not touch on.
I did call Disney Software and inquire about the
ststus of the demo disk that is included with the product.
I am waiting for a response. The demo is very nice, and it
is the contents of the one of the three disks that the program
is distributed on. I asked if it could be passed around, but I
don't think Disney Software will give the ok on this. Actually
when they call me back, I am going to express my thoughts on
this issue. That is that they would have been better off to distribute
the demo,as opposed to bundleing it with TAS. I haven't trie to load the
demo into TAS so I am not sure if it can serve as a functional part of
the program, say as another example.
Their is a blend feature that will give the appearance of more
colors on screen than actually used, and while neat I think you can achieve
the same effect in Dpaint III using some of it's advanced features. I seem
to recall seeing this but have never tried it.Is this possible in Dpaint ?

4014.1Sound problemCRISTA::LEIMBERGERI have my marbles now I want yoursWed Aug 15 1990 13:1411
I tried to play some sound file from the data file that come
with TAS. I tried them using Prosound 3.0 . Now their are two
type of files for each sound
	1)soundname.inst
	2)soundname.ss
This program supports Smus files and I have to admit that I know
very little about sound on the Amiga. I also tried to use Dvideo III
to play them no luck. Will I be able to use Prosound with The
Animation studio??

After a second phone call (Disney never returned the first), Bill
got the okay to distribute the demo disk. I've uploaded it to
    CRISTA""::AMIGA: and TAPE""::USER2:[UPLOAD] as;

The B&W-Donald and Donald files are the monocrome and color cartoon
"Strike Any Key To Continue". The mono version will run on a 512K
machine, but it does load the whole thing into memory. I've only run
the color version on a 3 meg machine, but it's nearly 1/2 a meg...
The Sound-Demo won't run; it comes up with a requestor for volume
"Studio" (looking for something called "Studio:Flicker"), but I left it
in there anyways, just to make the disk complete. Other than that,
nothing special is needed; just unbundle the archive and double click
    on the icons.

    Thanks for the upload Peter!
        re -1 .
I only called once. Disney got back to me the next day. I told
Peter that they had not returned my call(the day i called),and then
told him I would call again. Actually they got ahold of me late
the next day(early for them). I think the time frame had something
to do with it. The rep was very pleasent, and glad to hear from users.
On the first day the person I talked to just answered the phones.
So response was good given a chain of command, time zone etc.
I called just to verify that it was ok to distribute the demo
because of Disney's reputation in regards to protecting their copy
rights. In this case I felt it better to play safe. While my artistic
abilities are lacking, I plan to import an animation of an auto
engine into TAS to add sound, and take advantage of the dithering
capabilities of the package. The original work on the animation
was done using JX100 scanner,The Art department, and Dpaint III.
Now I will try using TAS to add polish to it.

There are limited discussions of computer animation in NODEMO::ANIMATION
    and QUEEN::GRAPHICS.
