| Ok, as soon as I got HLS home, I read the manual (sounded good), loaded
the program up, tried to transfer data to Gretzky, tried and retried
every software/hardware config I could think of, still failed and gave
up in disgust about 2 hours later ( I even thought maybe there was a
virus on the disk, since it was NOT write protected when unpackaged,
and Byte Bandit showed up on my system a little later - Virusx stomped
that though!).
So the end result is I have'nt actually played it too much. Maybe I'll
do a review later, IF I can get the interface to Gretzky to work. I
dont have the manual in front of me but some first impressions are:-
1) HLS seems to do what its name suggets (ie simulate a hockey league)
quite well. It comes with 1987/88 (I think) NHL teams already defined.
You can however created your own league, name the conferences,
divisions, teams, players etc.
2) Full stats are kept on all teams performance throughout the year
3) All teams are computer controlled by default, but you can make any
number human controlled
4) A pre-seaon draft of some sort exists, with, as expected, last
placed teams getting first pick - havent looked at this too closely yet
5) As team manager you can sent players to the farm team, or move
players up to the pros
6) Financial angle can optionally be used; this takes into
account player salaries etc
7) Individual players can have good/bad streaks, with their individual
stats changing accordingly, with time
8) Games between computer controlled teams are played INSTANTLY, with
all stats being updated. All that is displayed is the final score, but
another option will give you a report on the last match played.
9) Team lineups and schedule can be printed (and prearranged)
10) The only way to play a human controlled teams seems to be to load
the team stats to disk, and then load them into Gretsky. When finished
playing the Gretsky game, save the match stats, and reload them into
HLS.
11) This last point may end being a pain in the b**t since neither
program is hard disk installable (I dont have one anyway), AND you must
reboot each time.
Generally HLS is impressive. I will try the suggestion in 3882.1 (thx);
if it works, then Id say HLS is excellent, but if Im still unable to
transfer data, then Id say HLS is a waste of cash.

| When I bought HLS I was sent the lastest version of WGH with it. I was
also sent a bunch of A4 sheets stapled together, which turned out to be
the manual. They say they are going to send me a new manual when they
have finished it properly. (I was in a waiting list for HLS, so got it
before the packaging was fully completed)
